It's all fun and games at Guild Wars 2's dragon bash until someone turns up murdered in Lion's Arch. That's what sets the stage for the newest game update, Sky Pirates of Tyria. Launching on June 25th, the update will see players thrown into a murder investigation headed by Inspector Ellen Kiel, forcing everyone to take part in several events to track down the perpetrator. If you're thinking it's going to have something to do with the eponymous pirates, well, that's a reasonable guess. This update sees the addition of a new dungeon, the Aetherblade Retreat, which pits players against pirates of a decidedly aerial nature. It also features a wide-scale revamp of traits and skills for every profession to promote a wider range of playable builds, a variety of new rewards including miniatures and monocles, and an all-new event tying into the upcoming novel Sea of Sorrows. Custom Arenas and Spectator Mode for PvP are also leaving beta, giving players more ways to enjoy a spirited battle with friends and enemies. Our own Richie Procopio will be taking part in a press preview this weekend, so tune in before launch for a closer look at the details. [Source: ArenaNet press release]

  • The Summoner's Guidebook: Reworking three League of Legends champions

The Karma rework was probably one of the most-anticipated events to happen in recent League of Legends history. Karma was a character that was well-liked by the whole community but was almost universally seen as bad. With a surprising change to her model and lore as well as her ability set, Karma has risen from the ashes as an entirely different character. The changes to Karma are similar to the changes to Evelynn, in that Riot completely removed an old character and transplanted someone else that superficially resembled the old character in her place. However, I was really surprised when Riot decided to rework two additional champions as well. The studio took Trundle out of the jungle and into the frozen mountains of Freljord, reworking his kit to reflect the changes in his lore. Sejuani, on the other hand, was much like Karma: a champion that didn't mechanically fit. Little changed about her lore, but she decided to put on some clothes and storm off to Summoner's Rift as a new woman. But are the changes to these three characters good for the League, or were the characters better off staying the same?

Previous efforts to balance ships in EVE Online resulted in improvements to 19 different frigates and mining barges. However, that sum only represents 10% of all available EVE ships. With such a long ways to go, CCP wanted to pick up the pace for the upcoming winter expansion, according to the latest dev blog. And the company did just that: Eight destroyers, 16 frigates, and 16 cruisers are all getting various tweaks and upgrades to enhance specialization and increase utility. That's 40 more ships feeling the developer love! For specific details on the changes coming to each individual ship, check out the dev blog. There are updates, and then there are updates. MapleStory's Big Bang patch is most definitely the latter seeing as how it's the largest set of changes in the history of the game. It's so big, in fact, that the roll out is going to happen in three phases. Phase one began yesterday and includes overhauled graphics, a simplified UI, rebalanced skills, a faster leveling curve, and two new shards. "Big Bang is going to completely change the way players enjoy MapleStory. We've been listening to our players and this complete overhaul of the game will implement major changes based on their input, making the game more current and modern, allowing them to experience new adventures in a game they know and love," said Nexon producer Crystin Cox. Check out all the details on the game's official website, and don't forget to watch the trailer after the cut.
