Canon EOS 1000D washes ashore in BC, Canada, SD card reveals it was lost at sea for over a year (update)
What you're looking at was once a fully functional Canon EOS 1000D, now merely a relic of the sea (the Pacific Ocean, to be exact), which was recently posted on Google+. User Marcus Thompson, found the DSLR washed up near a wharf while on a diving job in Deep Bay British Columbia, Canada and decided to take it home to find out what could be salvaged. After removing and cleaning the SanDisk Extreme III SD card inside of it, he was successfully able to recover about 50 photos with EXIF data from August 2010, showcasing what's described to be a firefighter and his family on vacation. While he hasn't located the owner of the shooter turned coffee table decoration just yet, Marcus is currently asking the "Google+ hive mind" to help get the two reunited. Canon 50D firmware update fixes vertical banding issues
Listen up Canon users, the mothership just issued firmware updates for its EOS 50D, Rebel XSi (450D), and Rebel XS (1000D) DSLRs. The updates provide support for the AF assist beam on Canon's Speedlight 270 EX flashgun. More importantly perhaps, is firmware version 1.0.6 that "addresses the vertical banding noise phenomenon" for owners of the 50D. Canon's EOS Rebel XS / 1000D DSLR hits the test bench
With all the DSLR noise going on, the EOS Rebel XS managed to sneak in without too many people noticing. The proper entry-level replacement to the XTi / 400D recently took the time to cave to Camera Labs' every request, and when all was said and done, critics didn't find too many negative points to harp on. The all-important image quality ranked very highly, and the built-in live view was obviously a boon. Granted, the fixed screen and 7-point AF system (versus the 9-pointer on the XTi) were slight bummers, but it still managed to secure an 82% (Highly Recommended) rating. Canon's EOS Rebel XS DSLR gets official, a price tag
We've already seen and heard a handful concerning Canon's new entry-level DSLR, but now the company has finally given us some hard facts and figures to tear into like the rabid animals we are. The camera -- which ships in August -- will clock in at $699.99, and comes bundled with the EF-S18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS zoom lens, rechargeable battery pack and charger, a handful of cables, and the assurance that your pictures will look markedly better than the ones you took with that camera you bought on vacation that was bright yellow and housed in cardboard. Canon's Rebel XS / 1000D specs uncovered
Hot on the heels of that Rebel XS / 1000D leak from last week comes a handful of specs and new info on the rumored DSLR. According to the camera fanatics at Photography Bay, the new model will sport a 10.1 megapixel CMOS chip, Digic III, 7-point auto-focus, 3 FPS, a 2.5-inch LCD display, will weigh 540 grams, and should feature simplified 450D-like menus. The camera's price-point is rumored to be on the low end of things, which furthers our suspicions that this will be a replacement for the aging Rebel XT.
