Today, Capcom published an updated list of its all-time bestselling video games. The sales figures are correct up to December 31st, 2019, and reaffirm something that most video game fans have been believed or known about for sometime: man, Capcom is killing it. As Video Games Chronicle (VGC) notes, Devil May Cry 5 has now sold 3.1 million copies since its launch last March, making it the top-selling entry in the franchise. Devil May Cry 4, for comparison, currently stands at 3 million sales, while the "DmC" reboot by Ninja Theory has sold 2.4 million units to date.

It didn't take long for Capcom to offer a closer look at its Resident Evil 3: Nemesis remake. The developer has posted a trailer that explores the main characters of the survival horror title, most notably its namesake Nemesis. Even moreso than in the original version, Nemesis comes across as a nigh-on unstoppable freight train -- he's determined to hunt down "stars" like Jill Valentine, and he'll break through anything to get to them. You also get better looks at how Jill and her unexpected ally Carlos deal with the sheer chaos Umbrella's zombie infection has wrought upon the city.

Project Resistance, an upcoming title from Capcom, looks to be a multiplayer survival horror game in the style of Resident Evil Outbreak. The game developer unveiled the four-player cooperative game during the Tokyo Game Show. The trailer features a variety of characters going against a robotic villain similar to Mr. X from Resident Evil 2.

The next Resident Evil game may not be a sequel or a remake -- not a straightforward one, anyway. Capcom is teasing plans to unveil a new title, nicknamed Project Resistance, at 11AM Eastern on September 9th. The developer hasn't said anything about what it will entail, but the initial signs point to a spiritual successor to the spin-off Resident Evil Outbreak. Thumbnails grabbed from the YouTube Premiere show what looks to be four heroes working together to slay the zombie hordes. It's not certain if you'll fight alongside AI or human players, but you won't be alone.

Capcom clearly couldn't resist the temptation to hop on the card game bandwagon. The gaming giant has teamed up with GungHo to release Teppen (no, not Tekken), a card battler for Android and iOS that revolves around better-known characters from Street Fighter, Devil May Cry, Darkstalkers and other classics. If you've ever wanted to see Chun-Li fight Dante or Morrigan take on Mega Man, you can make it happen.

You won't have to be content with older Resident Evil games on the Switch for much longer. Capcom is bringing two of its not-quite-newest survival horror titles, Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6, to Nintendo's platform sometime in the fall. It's not certain just how much will have changed with the port, although they look reasonably intact from the cursory glimpse Nintendo has offered so far. These aren't the franchise's greatest hits -- they will, however, fill in a conspicuous gap for Switch fans.

After a year of silence, Capcom has announced eight new characters for its crossover fighter -- Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. Doubling down on Marvel's Cinematic Universe, Hulk, Thor, Hawkeye, Ultron and Rocket Racoon join the playable roster. On the Capcom side of the fence, the publisher has revealed that players will be able to duke it out as Street Fighter's Chun Li, Resident Evil's Chris Redfield, and Strider's Strider Hiryu. The trailer also announced that the game will be launching on PS4, Xbox One and PC on September 19th for $59.99. As expected, gamers can also preorder a 'Deluxe Edition' which grants them access to future character DLC and two exclusive costumes. Die-hard fans can also opt to splash out on the eye-wateringly expensive $199.99 Collector's Edition, which includes: plastic character dioramas of Iron Man, Captain Marvel, Mega Man X and Chun-Li, a case filled with six Infinity Stone replicas and a Steelbook game box. Fans who pre-order any edition of the game will get access to two special character skins - Warrior Thor and Evil Ryu.

If you ever played P.T., the playable teaser for the now defunct Silent Hills -- you know exactly how terrifying atmospheric gameplay can be. A dimly rit room can create a sense of claustrophobia. Otherworldly sounds can put you on edge. Now, put that carefully constructed horror world into VR, and you've got Resident Evil 7 -- the scariest looking game to come out of E3 so far.

  • PSN Store Update: Stop It Don't Open That Door Edition

This week's headline new release on PSN is definitely Saints Row: Gat out of Hell, the $20 standalone follow-up to Saints Row 4. PS3 and PS4 owners can both get their Gat on, but the latter group can also get it in a $50 bundle with SR4: Re-elected. The visually enhanced, DLC-stuffed PS4 version of Saints Row 4 is also available on its own for $30. This week's other big deal is also a remaster, but of a much, much less recent game. The PS4 and PS3 edition of the first Resident Evil brings the S.T.A.R.S. into HD, and at an asking price of $20. Since it's a remaster of the GameCube game, itself a remake, we'll just have to reminisce about the original's memorably awful voice acting.

  • Resident Evil HD pre-orders are cross-buy on PS4, PS3

In holiday spirit news, PlayStation pre-orders of the HD-ified Resident Evil will unlock the game on both PS4 and PS3. Capcom revealed North American users can pre-purchase the upcoming remaster on PSN now, and by doing so they'll get both the PS4 and PS3 versions. The publisher's confirmed to Polygon the cross-buy offer is only available for pre-orders. If you're almost peckish for a remastered sandwich, you don't have much longer to wait. The $20 "definitive version" of Resi's 2002 remake hits PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on January 20, 2015, bringing back crazed canines, creaking doors and Barry Burtonisms in 1080p. • Claire goes back to work in Resident Evil Revelations 2 opening

It's hard to imagine why Claire Redfield of Capcom's Resident Evil universe would put anything other than "I saved you from becoming zombie food" on her resume, but we suppose that's a pretty good attribute when you work for a human rights organization that unravels the schemes of/cleans up the damage made by terrorists using bio-weapons. Unfortunately, being such a high-profile figure also makes you a target, as evidenced by the opening scene of Resident Evil Revelations 2, which you can watch after the break. Historically, Claire has fared well against both helicopters and men with guns, but age catches up to all of us it seems, and the lady Redfield is unable to save her place of business from attack. Community Manager Brelston writes on the Capcom Unity blog that after this scene, Claire and company wake up on a prison island with "little information, no weapons and no clear way home." Well, at least our heroine will be in familiar circumstances when Resident Evil Revelations 2 begins its episodic tale on February 17, 2015.

Microsoft kicked off its "Countdown to 2015" sale today on the Xbox Store, discounting a myriad of games with bigger price cuts for Xbox Live Gold members. This week's deals are good until December 22 and feature Lords of the Fallen at 40 percent off, Thief at 67 percent off, Wolfenstein: The New Order for half-price and The Evil Within at half-off as well for Xbox One, among a slew of other games. Two Xbox One games are also on sale for today only: Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and its season pass are each 33 percent off and Lego: The Hobbit is 50 percent off. Among the many Xbox 360 games on sale this week, Dark Souls 2 is half-off, Tomb Raider is 67 percent off, Halo: Spartan Assault and Dance Central 3 are each 67 percent off and BioShock Infinite's price is slashed by 85 percent. Welcome to Joystiq Weekly, a "too long; didn't read" of each week's biggest stories, reviews and original content. Each category's top story is introduced with a reactionary gif, because moving pictures aren't just for The Daily Prophet. Judging by how many uploads of Street Fighter 5's announcement trailer have been pulled, we're thinking Capcom doesn't want us to know about it just yet. Considering it seems to be a PS4 console exclusive, we're wondering if the reveal slipped out ahead of PlayStation Experience, this weekend's gathering in Las Vegas to talk all things PlayStation. We can find out together as the event plays out over the next 48 hours, but PlayStation news isn't the only thing happening this week – The King's Quest series is getting a new entry, we reviewed Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker and Telltale Games' Game Of Thrones, and Managing Editor Susan Arendt explained the Danganronpa series' remarkable conveyance of how depression works. Those and many more stories are waiting for you after the break!

The re-release of Resident Evil, upgraded for modern consoles, is scheduled to launch digitally in North America on January 20 for PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC. It will cost $20. This is the "definitive version" of 2002's Resident Evil, and the Xbox One and PS4 versions will both run at 1080p. Some of the environments will be polygonal, as opposed to the original's backgrounds of flat images and videos. Players will be able to choose between classic and modern control schemes. 11.23.2014

Next year's Resident Evil re-remake probably won't be as drastic of an upgrade as its 2002 GameCube source material, but there's still some interesting changes at play. As producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi explains via translator and demonstrates in the above video from Capcom Unity, select scenes will feature polygonal environments in place of the game's standard practice of flat images and video files played as backgrounds. As for why the entirety of the remake won't feature polygonal environments, Hirabayashi said that the team had considered it, but since the goal is to recreate the same tone as the first remake, there were concerns that it might come off looking different or "maybe a little soulless." Instead, the team considered whether each room would benefit anything from such a conversion on a case-by-case basis. This Resident Evil remake will arrive at digital storefronts on last and current-generation Xbox and PlayStation consoles. The Xbox One and PS4 versions will run at 1080p, but all versions will offer 5.1 surround sound, 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios as well as classic and modern control schemes. [Image: Capcom]

Resident Evil's amazing remake is coming back in HD next year. The Evil Within made us remember Resident Evil 4's raw magic. Next year's brand new Resident Evil: Revelations 2 has us reflecting on Code Veronica's gothic madness. But where is the love for Resident Evil 2, that slice of brilliance which moved the original's haunted house horror into the big city? It had intersecting campaigns! It had giant, un-killable freaks in trench coats and people with spiky tongues and exposed brains! A young lady's father grew an eyeball on his arm! Then an alligator shows up for no good reason. It's one of the best horror games ever made. It put director and Platinum Games co-founder Hideki Kamiya on the map. Starting at 4:00PM EST on Joystiq.com/Twitch we'll be streaming Resident Evil 2 from the start. Leon meets Claire. Claire wears a weird leotard. Leon wears football shoulder pads for no reason. It's great. Joystiq.com/Twitch broadcasts every Tuesday and Thursday at 4:00PM EST, but we stream at odd times all the time so make sure to follow us on Twitch. [Images: Capcom]
