Amazon's fantasy TV ambitions aren't just confined to The Lord of the Rings. The company has ordered an hour-per-episode series based on Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time novels -- yes, after years of canceled plans and legal hurdles, it's finally happening. The series promises to be a direct adaptation of the books, which center around a world where only women are known to wield magic (or rather, "channeling") and prophecies talk of a person who's the reincarnation of a powerful being.

With nearly 44 million copies sold, the late Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series of fantasy novels continues to be one of the world's most bankable franchises, something not lost on Red Eagle Games. The newly founded LA studio announced that it has optioned the rights to release "stand alone" games based on the Wheel of Time to all platforms. A MMO is also planned, leaving us wondering if we should finally begin weaning ourselves off the series' now 15-year old MUD.Red Eagle Games' stake in the series doesn't end there, however, with studio execs Rick Selvage and Larry Mondragon pulling double duty as producers on an upcoming Wheel of Time feature film. Of course, history has taught us that games based on properties, no matter how popular they are, shouldn't be taken at face value. One thing remains certain, however. Even deceased, Robert Jordan continues to swim in the great big money bin in the sky.
