Samsung Sliding PC 7 Series now available for $649 Amazon pre-order (update)
Samsung has yet to announce a revised release date for its Sliding PC 7 Series tablet / laptop hybrid, but the 2.2-pound netvertible slider is already available for pre-order on Amazon. According to Amazon's listing, the 7 Series should ship with many of the same specs we noticed at this year's CES: a 10-inch touchscreen with 1366 x 768-resolution, dual front and rear cameras (1.3 and 3.0 megapixels, respectively), a 32GB SSD, 2GB of RAM and, of course, Intel's 1.5GHz Atom Oak Trail Z670 processor, which was originally scheduled to launch in March, before being pushed back to May. The slider will also run on Windows 7 Home Premium, and come equipped with 802.11b/g/n WiFi. When it debuted earlier this year, the Series 7 boasted optional 3G and WiMax features, as well as a six-cell battery that claimed to last up to nine hours on a single charge. Amazon doesn't mention either of these specs in its listing, but everything else checks out with what we've already heard. And, at $649, it's even a little cheaper than we expected. Intel Oak Trail Atom Z670 tablets to arrive at the end of March
Intel's spent the last nine months prepping its Oak Trail silicon to improve the battery life and performance of Windows 7 tablets, and come the end of next month we should finally have some slates with the new 1.5GHz Atom Z670 chip inside. While Fudzilla has heard that the tablets will hit in the general March time frame, the eagle-eyed guys at Netbook News spotted the Fujitsu Stylistic Q550 press materials stating that the new platform will launch on March 30, 2011. That seems to line up with what we've heard on timing, since both the Oak Trail-powered Samsung Sliding PC 7 and MSI WindPad 100W were announced with March availability. Chances are we will hear more about it all at CeBIT next week, but honestly, at this point we're just really eager to get one of these in our hands to see what Chipzilla's really improved.

Maybe, just maybe, you've noticed that Engadget relocated this past week to the City of Sin for CES 2011. Oh yes, we set up camp in a double-wide trailer, liveblogged our hearts out, combed the show floor, and worked our rear ends off to bring you more gadget news than you ever thought possible. It's true, we've written over 720 posts (40 or so about tablets alone!), shot more than 180 videos, and brought you over 350 photo galleries in the last seven days. That's a ton of technology news and products, but naturally, only certain ones have been able to rise above the rest and stick out in our scary collective hive-mind. With that said, we've complied our annual best of list for you, so hit the break and feast your eyes on what are bound to be some of the best products of the new year.
Samsung Sliding PC 7 Series announced, coming in March for $699
Gloria? Are you finally with us? It sure looks like it -- Samsung has just unveiled its Sliding PC 7 Series slider and it looks to be one crazy Windows 7 tablet / laptop hybrid. Powered by Intel's 1.66GHz Z670 Oak Trail processor, the 2.2-pound tablet features a 1366 x 768-resolution, 10.1-inch 340-nit touchscreen, 32GB / 64GB SSD options, and 2GB of RAM. Obviously, this guy is running Windows 7 Home Premium at its core, but Samsung has created its own Touch Launcher that includes loads of applications that are "optimized for the touchscreen," while others will be available through Samsung's App Manager and Windows Product Scout. We're not entirely sure what the latter is all about, but we do know that this thing has a USB and HDMI ports, a 4-in-1 card reader, an ambient light sensor, and a 1.3 megapixel webcam. Oh, and did we mention they say it will boot in under 20 seconds and will be available with WiMax? Our biggest concern here is obviously battery life, but Samsung is claiming that its six-cell lithium-polymer will last up to nine hours on a charge. Don't let us down Sammy, for $699 this one sounds mighty good. The Sliding PC 7 Series will be hitting shelves in March, but we'll be looking to get some hands-on time with this very soon.
