Samsung AllShare SDK could bring better connected apps to your Galaxy
Samsung's AllShare apps are the only implementations of the company's DLNA-based platform to date, but now it wants external developers to help realize the tech's potential. The AllShare Framework SDK has been released, meaning its APIs can be integrated into third-party software for the creation of "AllShare-enabled" apps. Developers will be given access to AllShare features including media streaming, screen sharing with compatible devices (or an AllShare Cast dongle), and remote control functions. Now devs can start using these tools, expect to see more AllShare-enabled apps boosting the functionality of your Galaxy device in the near future.
Samsung AllShare Cast Hub hits the FCC, maintains an air of mystery
Details remain decidedly light on this one, but it looks like Samsung could be about to expand its AllShare media streaming / sharing service with a new piece of hardware. A device dubbed the AllShare Cast Hub has now turned up in some FCC filings, apparently packing some HDMI connectivity and dual-band WiFi capabilities. Unfortunately, that's about all that the filings reveal, but it's not too much of a stretch to infer that the device is a media hub of some sort, presumably with the ability to stream media from your computer or smartphone to TVs that don't already support AllShare out of the box. We're guessing Samsung will fill in the rest of the details sooner or later, but those into test reports can dive into the links below right now.
Samsung AllShare and AllShare Play with the Galaxy Note hands-on (video)
Away from home and need to pull Transformers 3 off of your PC? Samsung will oblige with its AllShare content system. The tech pulls video, music and pics from your connected computer(s) to your Galaxy Note via the AllShare Play app. Then, said software pushes the clip of your choosing to a web-enabled Samsung TV. Want a look at it in action? Take a look at the images below and our video demo just beyond the break. In the short time we spent with AllShare, we were pretty impressed. Of course, the laptop that we were accessing content from was an arm's length away. We'd like to see how the whole kit performs from across town, in a more real-world setting. Even in close proximity, the tech worked pretty quickly, as we only had to wait a few seconds for the media to load or for an adequate connection to be made. Once you start a clip, your smartphone becomes a remote control of sorts with volume and playback controls. We're looking forward to being able to decide on that Boardwalk Empire marathon on-the-fly sans the need for pre-planning. The only thing we'd like to see is some sort of preview while the media is streaming on the TV. Right now, you can only view the content on one or the other and not on both devices at the same time.
