SHOCK! Namco Bandai has just announced that Xbox 360's exclusive Soulcalibur IV character, Yoda, will be available as DLC on the PS3. We totally didn't see this coming. The DLC pack will be available next Thursday, October 23rd, and will cost $4.99. Xbox 360 owners will be able to access the PS3-exclusive character, Darth Vader, for 400 Microsoft Points.

  • 'No plans' for Yoda on PS3 Soulcalibur IV

If Katsutoshi Sasaki, the director of Soulcalibur IV, is to be believed, there will be no Yoda in the form of DLC in the PS3 version. There won't be a Vader DLC for the 360 version, for that matter. The interview in MSXBox World contains mostly questions about the Xbox 360 version, but when asked "will there ever be a time when we can have Darth Vader and Yoda on the same console?" Sasaki gave a clear reply of "we don't have any plans for that." The interview is dated August 31st, 2008, but we are going to assume it is from July 31st.This is contrary to earlier reports on the official Korean PlayStation site claiming Yoda will be available for download from the PSN. And videos like this certainly won't help douse those rumors.

  • Yoda as DLC for Soulcalibur IV, says Korean PlayStation site

Over the weekend, a video of Darth Vader and Yoda fighting each other in Soulcalibur IV was leaked onto the internet (and then it was subsequently pulled). Currently, Darth Vader lives only on the PS3 version, while Yoda lives only on the Xbox 360 version. Could Namco Bandai be planning DLC which unlocks the famed Star Wars characters in both versions? It would make a lot of sense, wouldn't it?According to the Korean PlayStation site, Yoda will be available for download from the PSN. That sounds like DLC to us. While Namco Bandai hasn't confirmed anything yet, we wouldn't be surprised if Yoda (and who knows what other characters) ended up appearing in Soulcalibur IV.[Via Siliconera; Image via GamersReports]

Kylie Prymus is the first columnist for PS Fanboy. A Ph.D candidate in philosophy, Kylie specializes in the sociology of technology. Through this new weekly column, Kylie will explore the impact of PlayStation on thought and culture. This may not sound like a paradigm shattering piece of news, but I'm excited about Soulcalibur IV. Virtua Fighter may hold my heart for technical fighting games, but that tale of souls and swords, eternally retold still manages to bring out the button-mashing kid in me. You remember transcending history and the world, don't you? You don't?I remember that tale. I remember long nights debating the merits and flaws of the Soul Edge and Soul Blade and trying to understand the metaphysics behind good and evil swords transforming to fit their wielder. It was a mighty fine fighting game too, but it was the story that kept me coming back to complete the game with each and every character. Back then I could tell you the motivations of just about every character in every fighting game I played. Nowadays you're lucky if you even get endings.

  • Latest Soulcalibur IV scan reveals new character, returning cast

A new Famitsu scan, a new Soulcalibur IV character revealed. This time, one more fresh female face joins the roster; her name is Angol Fear. She sounds frightening, doesn't she? Angol Fear is said to be a character from the Keroro Gunsou anime. It's an odd choice for a guest character if you ask us. Seems a little too niche. It begs the question: is this character even going to make it in the North American version? A second question comes to mind: why are there no Namco guest characters? We'd love to see more Tekken cameos, or even Kos-Mos from Xenosaga -- that is, if there are no business complications on that end.Anyway, Soulcalibur fanatics will love this info: Cervantes and Zasalamel are returning. Amy from Soulcalibur III will also be returning. With the news of this latest revelation, the majority of Soulcalibur alumni have now been confirmed. We're still missing the likes of Setsuka, Talim, Yoshimitsu, and Rock. Talim, deary, where are you?

  • SCIV: See Darth Vader and Yoda in action

Dear lord. We went to bed knowing that Darth Vader and Yoda were showing up in Soul Calibur IV (Yoda is apparently 360 exclusive by the way, whereas Darth joins the Dark Side PS3). That alone was very disturbing. All night we had unsettling dreams about the effects of Force powers on inordinately large breasts. And now we have this, a trailer showcasing them both. Honestly, if someone from Namco Bandai burst through the wall of Fanboy Towers right now screaming "Gotcha!" we wouldn't be surprised. After witnessing some hefty hoaxes and jokes over the years, making this a little hard to swallow, but we're doing our best. Alas, you won't actually see Yoda or Darth doing any fighting, but at least you can see them in motion. On a side note, the game is looking great. Check out the video and see what you think. • Darth Vader and Yoda join Soul Calibur IV (seriously)

No, really. We're absolutely dead serious. Yoda and Darth Vader -- you know, from Star Wars -- will both be appearing in the Namco weapons-based fighter Soul Calibur IV. We are absolutely not kidding about this at all. It's not a joke. It's real, and 1UP has pictures to prove it. Now, as we attempt to wrap our heads around the sheer bizarreness of it all, we're racked with questions. Forget how Namco plans to work these clowns into the story. After all, they managed to wedge Spawn and Link into Soul Calibur II somehow. Our question is how can any conventional weapon stand up to the might of a light saber? Dare we say it, a light saber would slice the Soul Edge itself as though it were butter. Butter, we say! Adding fuel to what is undoubtedly the weirdest fire to break so far this year, 1UP speculates that more Star Wars characters might be on the way. You know what, we quit. Words fail. Go to 1UP and check out the images for yourself.Update: GameSpot reports that Yoda is exclusive to the Xbox 360 while Darth Vader is PS3 only. Is Namco Bandai making a comment on the force alignments of Microsoft and Sony here?[Thanks, terrence. Via Joystiq]

If you were worried that Ivy would be the only character with comically large breasts in Soul Calibur IV, then we can officially ease your mind. Namco Bandai has released some fresh screens and character art from the upcoming weapons-based fighter, and, well, the proof is in the pudding as it were. In addition to Ivy's mammoth mammaries, both Sophitia and her sister Cassandra have ample bosoms and some revealing outfits with which to showcase them. They don't quite have the "science experiment gone wrong" quality that Ivy's bust has, but they're nothing to sneeze at. And Voldo, well, Voldo has some special cleavage and bulges of his own. Check out the gallery below for the new images.%Gallery-6024%

  • Soul Calibur's new bountiful bouncing breasts, now in screenshot form (in EGM)

Each Soul Calibur release has been bigger and better than the last, and Soul Calibur 4 isn't about to let us down (note the liberal use of bosom-related puns in that sentence). Four new screenshots tucked away in the pages of this month's EGM show off exactly what we want to see: bums and boobs of the female persuasion (and a duck or two, but that's secondary). As we noticed a few weeks ago, Ivy has received a monumental mammary resizing for the upcoming game. So much, in fact, that we're concerned for her health. Those things are just begging to get popped.[Update: The screenshots we posted earlier were taken from the glossy pages of this month's EGM. If you want to see more, pick up the mag or check out this teaser. Again. And again. Alright, enough of that.]

Hot on the heels of the revelation that Soul Calibur IV will feature online play, images pulled from the related EGM article are beginning to hit the internet. The images come to us courtesy of Xboxygen, and they are quite, ahem, revealing. We are of course referring to the amazingly supported female naughty bits (made even more amazing considering the game takes place in an age before the underwire bra). The image above also reveals a well-wrought thong (or a spectacularly painful wedgie). Ogling aside, the images certainly do look sharp. We also have to point out that one shot contains a dodo. Given that Soul Calibur IV looks to be the last in the series, the fact that it contains an extinct bird seems appropriate. Here's hoping the gameplay does a better job of evolving (ba dum bum, psh!).Hit the "read" link for more images.

  • Soul Calibur IV now burns online

This is the sort of thing we like to hear. In the latest issue of EGM, Namco has confirmed that Soul Calibur IV will feature online play. The news comes straight from the game's director, Katsutoshi Sasaki, who says that online play is part of all current-gen consoles and "with the current environment, we really couldn't make SC4 without online play." We would be remiss if we didn't point out that every iteration of Soul Calibur has appeared on a console capable of supporting online play, but we digress. In other news, players will be able to take their custom "create-a-character" avatars online, though Sasaki isn't sure whether or not players will be able to trade them. We shudder to imagine all the Takis and Ivys -- wearing nothing but flesh-tone underwear -- we'll be facing online. Now, if only we could get Sasaki-San to have a talk with SEGA about Virtua Fighter 5.[Via Joystiq]
