  • Word on TheStreet is that you shouldn't buy an iPhone 4

Two things are for certain: the iPhone 4 will be a huge success and there will be plenty of places that look to cash in by writing link bait headlines. Yahoo (remember them? They're the search engine you used before Google) jumps right in with 5 reasons not to buy the iPhone 4. Well, that's what it's called on their front page where it is prominently linked. When you click through it's actually titled: "5 Big Blemishes for the Apple iPhone 4" so you can see they're ramping up the hyperbole machine. The story is actually syndicated from TheStreet.com (home of Jim "didn't see the economic crisis coming" Cramer), and is written by Scott Moritz, whose track record is so poor someone has compiled a list of his bad calls. The article doesn't say that you shouldn't buy one, it says "[t]here are, however, a few shortcomings." Really, Sherlock? Here's a clue for you: every device has a few shortcomings, but let's see what shortcomings Scott found. Read on for more...

  • Rumors and speculation: No Intel in the tablet, no Flash either

(TUAW Tablet concept, designed by reader Juan Secin) Scott Moritz over at The Street has new rumors about the tablet today (though be warned, Moritz isn't first in the hearts of Apple crystal-ball gazers): he says that the tablet does not include any Intel chips inside, and that Apple has instead elected to go with another provider for the little pieces of metal, silicon and plastic that will power what many expect to be the new revolution in portable computing. He cites Apple's "design manufacturing partners" as sources, although of course neither Intel nor Apple have anything to say about the subject. And elsewhere in the tablet rumorscape, John Gruber has a followup to his big tablet speculation post that's worth a read. He says that yes, of course, the App Store will deliver apps to the platform, that yes, there may be an SDK delay (although don't forget, we've already heard about a possible new SDK going around), that yes, the new tablet may offer up non-app iTunes content from indie providers, and finally that no, the tablet probably won't have Flash, for the same reasons that the iPhone doesn't. Which all sounds legit, though even Gruber admitted in his other post that his theories were based on reasoning more than any secrets he'd heard. We're getting a pretty good picture of the tablet as we go along here -- odds are it'll get even clearer before we see the thing on stage.

  • Apple's got a new 13-inch laptop prepped for Leopard launch?

Nothing like a wild and unsubstantiated Apple rumor to keep us entertained in the run up to Apple's Leopard launch on the 26th. The latest comes courtesy of TheStreet.com's Scott Moritz, who says Apple will have a new 13-inch ultraportable laptop ready to coincide with Leopard's launch party, and the laptop will be aluminum like the MacBook Pros. Unfortunately, not only do we have zero idea where he got this information, it's also unclear from his statement if this will be a refresh to the existing MacBook line, an additional tier of "Pro" ultraportable Apple laptop, or maybe that "Slim" unit we've been hearing about. We've got our fingers crossed for the latter options, but the MacBook could certainly use a bit of TLC, so either way it wouldn't be a total loss.[Thanks, Byrd]Update: Many people in comments have pointed out quite accurately that this guy really has crap for a track record. He's been particularly off on iPhone numbers in the past, and some even claim he's screwing with Apple stock on purpose. While that's a pretty wild accusation to be slinging around, we'd certainly caution you from placing any hope in this guy's predictions -- ours has certainly been shaken.
