Comcast and Twitter made it easy to watch TV online when they launched their SeeIt social platform, but the service has only been truly useful for Comcast customers watching NBCUniversal shows. It's about to become much more relevant, though, as Comcast has reached deals with nine new channel and TV service providers. ABC, A&E Networks, AMC, Cablevision, Charter, Crown Media Family Networks, Discovery, Fox and Time Warner Cable should all support SeeIt's "watch now" links in tweets as soon as the first quarter of 2014. You also won't need to sign up for Comcast service to get the full experience -- the new SeeIt deal will let Cablevision, Charter and TWC TV subscribers both tune their set-top boxes and record programming without ever grabbing the TV remote. There will still be gaps in SeeIt's coverage in the wake of these agreements, but don't be surprised if it's ubiquitous in the near future.

Comcast has cozied up to Twitter and the result is a new streaming-video feature called "See It," which will be embedded in select tweets. Comcast customers using the Xfinity service will be able to access streaming TV content straight from the social network, starting first with NBC content and presumably expanding in the future. Here's how its primary function works: Certain Twitter accounts -- such as official accounts of TV shows or networks -- can embed a "See It" button in their tweets. Comcast Xfinity customers can click this button, sign in and watch the show or sporting event right from their tablet or smartphone. Additionally, customers will be able to set reminders or DVR recording schedules using the See It feature, though these functions weren't fully detailed in the company's announcement.

  • Twitter's new Comcast deal could have you watching TV from tweets

Twitter's making a broader push into your TV room -- if you're a Comcast cable subscriber, that is. The cabler's just inked a deal with Twitter that should see the addition of a "See It" button appear on tweets pertaining to NBCUniversal programming later this fall. According to AllThingsD, the initiative should work something like this: say you're browsing your feed and come across a tweet about "The Michael J. Fox Show" (if it survives long enough), there'll be an associated "See It" button that, when clicked, will take you to a card with more detailed information and, crucially, the ability to DVR or watch the program on TV or online. Beyond just TV shows, the partnership will also allow Twitter users to set reminders for upcoming programs and even purchase movie tickets on Fandango -- all options made accessible by the "See It" button. The specifics of the deal haven't been fully disclosed, so it's not clear which shows will enjoy the "See It" button promotion, but other cablers and TV networks could soon be participating as well. Twitter intends for this unique strategy to spread across content providers, bridging your social networking life and all its real-time buzz with your TV consumption habits.
