Victor Agreda, Jr. (Editor-in-Chief, The Unofficial Apple Weblog) interviews Martin Frid-Nielsen of Soonr at WWDC 2011. Martin was kind enough to tell us about his thoughts on the announcements on WWDC, and how it will affect their plans moving forward. TUAW and MacTech Magazine teamed up to speak to developers at WWDC 2011 about the keynote announcements and how Apple's new technologies will help them and their customers. We'll bring you those videos here, MacTech.com and MacNews.com. Also, check out the free trial subscription offer for MacTech Magazine here.

For those only interested in fielding VoIP calls on an iPhone, we're pretty sure Cisco could hook you up, but if you've been wondering how to utilize Skype on your Apple iPhone, this here workaround spills the beans. Admittedly, this method is far from seamless, but by installing the famed SoonR Talk application on your home PC and logging into the AJAX-enabled SoonR website on your handset, a new way of calling instantly emerges. As with other handsets that support AJAX interfaces, you can reportedly view and call Skype buddies through your iPhone, but you should be aware that SkypeOut credits will be used due to the PSTN leg needed to dial your mobile. Inelegant as it may be, VoIP has now invaded the (non-Cisco) iPhone.

SoonR allows you to connect to your computer (PC or Mac) and look at files, emails, and appointments via a cell phone that can connect to the web. Today SoonR has released a beta of their client for OS X. The coolest thing about this client, in my opinion, is that you can do a Spotlight search on your Mac at home via your cell phone.I'm not sure how useful this will be, but it is very cool. Basic Soonr accounts are free, though upgrading to a premium account will cost ya (a premium account includes backups, access to host computers even when they are off, and cheap international calling).

If you've got a lot of friends overseas but no way to call them when you're away from your Skype-enabled PC, then remote services provider SoonR may have just the solution you've been looking for. Soonr, which currently operates a LogMeIn-type VNC service, has just announced a new app called SoonR Talk that allows you to make Skype calls directly from your cellphone. After installing the software on their home PCs, users simply need to dial in to their home machine through their handset's browser and select a buddy from their Skype list to call, after which the program dials their mobile using SkypeOut and serves as a virtual switchboard for routing the audio. As you've probably figured out already, although the software and service are free, you're essentially double paying on SkypeOut calls made using this technique (Skype costs + wireless minutes), so SoonR Talk seems best for  international calling or participating in Skype conference calls.
