Never mind using ridesharing services to get across cities -- Uber wants to take you across continents. The company has launched a permanent version of its UberBoat service in Istanbul that shuttles you between Asia and Europe (that is, both sides of the city) in a speed boat. It'll cost you at least 50 lira (about $19) versus the 2 lira (81 cents) for a public ferry, but you won't be waiting long to get moving... and you won't have to fight Istanbul's notoriously bad traffic, either. Each craft also carries up to 8 people, so it'll be more affordable if you're traveling as part of a pack. You probably won't use this often unless you're regularly hurrying across the Bosphorus strait, but it should be more scenic than an overcrowded bridge or tunnel.

If you cannot afford a slick speed boat and the latest in fishing technology to help you pull a massive, scaled beast out of the local salty waters, worry no more. Grand Mer, a new fishing MMORPG, will let you live your dreams from the convenient location of your desktop. While it might sound like a far-fetched idea for an MMORPG, consider the lore. It turns out that the game is set in a semi-post-apocalyptic world of flooded lands, one that requires citizens to pursue fish as if there were only a few left in the sea. Of course, we're not sure how the hip-hop-inspired clothing options and teeny-bikinis figure into the backstory, but for some reason we just... cannot... stop... watching. (Perhaps it is the scary possibility of netting a dolphin?) Whatever you think of the concept, check out the trailer after the cut and enjoy some images from the upcoming title. Don't be surprised if you hit replay as many times as we did.

It's scientific fact that racing games are roughly 200 percent more exciting when the genre's standard asphalt surfaces are replaced with good ol' H20. One of the clearest examples of this was Midway's classic arcade racer Hydro Thunder -- a franchise that's been dormant for over a decade. However, Microsoft Game Studios and developer Vector Unit today announced that they'll soon blow the proverbial dust off the series this summer with Hydro Thunder Hurricane, an Xbox Live Arcade-exclusive sequel to the arcade classic. Hydro Thunder Hurricane will include a number of multiplayer-oriented game modes, eight super hazardous race tracks and several returning speedboats from the series' original iteration. There's support for four-player local matches, eight-player online matches and a co-operative "Rubber Ducky" mode, which just sounds so intense. Vector Unit is showcasing the title at PAX East. We'll let you know how it handles.

There aren't many sorts of vehicles that haven't been solarized, but it looks like Dutch company Czeers has managed to find one, with it now showing off what it claims to be the world's first solar powered speedboat. Dubbed the MK1, the solar panel-ensconced vessel can apparently reach a top speed of 30 knots (or roughly 35 miles per hour), all the while operating in relative silence. The company doesn't seem to have overlooked the other parts of the boat either, with it also boasting touchscreen-based control system and a suitably luxurious leather interior. No word on a possible price or release date just yet, naturally, but you can catch a glimpse of it in action in the video after the break.[Via Uber Review]

  • Vice City's watery playground

It's common knowledge that you'll now be able to play in the water in the PSP's Vice City Stories. Although swimming was introduced in the PS2's San Andreas, this handheld iteration of the popular series will feature the most complex water-based gameplay in the franchise's history, according to IGN. Each vehicle in the game will respond to the game's new water physics model: they'll bob in the water, be affected by currents and be slowed down by drag. (It's like you're buying GTA and getting Wave Race for free.) Using the jet-ski, you'll be able to do drive-by shootings on the water, terrifying rich boat owners. The APV sounds exciting, as you'll be able to drive it around and enter the water when you really need to make a dramatic getaway. With speedboats, yachts, sailboats, zodiacs, airboats, and more, Vice City Stories "might have the largest collection of sea-based vehicles in gaming history," which is especially impressive when you consider the platform's diminuitive size. By making the waterways important to gameplay, gamers can expect tons of mini-games: swimming events, boat and jet ski races. Heck, if you feel like being a good guy and wash your hands of all the sin you're committing, there's no better way than to partake in a water rescue mission. Is anyone else concerned that this game might feature too much content?Vice City Stories hits stores at the end of this month.
