Steam is making a strong case for a mini-staycation this weekend. Festivities kick off today with the Ubisoft Publisher Sale, which lasts until February 24 and offers discounts of up to 75% across just about every Ubisoft game on Steam. Daily deals, additional discounts on select games, will further add to the temptation to spend. Don't want to spend any cash? Steam thought of that. Both Orion: Dino Horde, a multiplayer shooter that pits man against dinosaur, and Call of Duty: Ghosts, a game that pits Riley the dog against helicopters, are free to play this weekend. Should you wish to buy after you try, Orion is available for $1 and Ghosts is reduced to $30. Finally, Bohemia Interactive's military sandbox game Arma 3 is 40% off this weekend and available for $36. The game features a variety of single-player and multiplayer operations, and allows active personnel to edit certain gameplay scenarios and employ custom mods. [Image: Activision]

Nothing in life is so perfect that it can't be improved with the addition of dinosaurs. Imagine Jurassic Park without dinosaurs, or Dinosaur Comics, or your wedding day, for just a few examples. See? Everything is better with dinosaurs.Orion: Dino Beatdown understands this principle perfectly, adding vicious dinosaurs to an otherwise standard class-based shooter. The above video explains how each class can best take down the dinos – but really, it's not as if there's a bad way to play a game with dinosaurs in it.%Gallery-153483%

Orion: Dino Beatdown is, according to developer Spiral Game Studios, an "open world, class-based cooperative survival sci-fi FPS." However, despite all those words, we think that description leaves out the interesting bits. Let us rephrase:Orion: Dino Beatdown is a game about guys with jetpacks shooting at freaking dinosaurs.Sound familiar? You might have actually helped fund the development. Last year, Spiral Kickstarted the project under the name Orion: Prelude. Everyone who contributed to that will receive a copy of the game when its March release date hits. Everyone else can pay $9.99.The platforms have changed from the original plan: consoles are out, and OnLive and Steam are in. But what hasn't changed is the idea of five players in open worlds, picking one of three classes (Assault, i.e. jetpack guys, and two other miscellaneous non-jetpack classes) and surviving endless dinosaur assaults.

Spiral Game Studios is a developer with a simple dream: to make a game with dinosaurs and jetpacks in it. To help it achieve this beautiful goal, the developer has opened a Kickstarter page, seeking funding for the completion of its PC/XBLA/PSN first-person shooter Orion: Prelude. The funding will help Spiral work on a multiplayer beta, get a build ready for GDC and, most importantly, add more people to the team. For your pledge, you'll get a gift from Spiral Game Studios, such as concept art, a T-shirt, a soundtrack, or, for the few who part with $1,000 or more, an Achievement in your name plus exclusive weapons and armor. Most importantly, you get to play the completed game.
