About a month ago, Microsoft's UK director of Xbox and Entertainment, Stephen McGill, said he expected Halo: Reach to outsell Activision's Call of Duty: Black Ops. We had a nice laugh about it in the company of some analysts. Later, in an interview with Eurogamer, McGill waffled like an Eggo and wasn't willing to put money down on the claim. Asked if he would bet a "tenner" that Halo would outsell Call of Duty: Black Ops, the executive said Activision's shooter would jump ahead because it's multiplatorm (logical!), whereas Reach is only available on the Xbox 360. When the bet was adjusted to be only for the Xbox 360, McGill stated, "I'm tightfisted with my cash, so I'm not going to bet anyone any money about anything." We have an exercise routine after the break that won't cost a dime.

As the UK-based director of Xbox and Entertainment at Microsoft, it's Stephen McGill's job to boast about upcoming games, even ones that seem to have the whole "hype" thing in the bag. "We have huge expectations," McGill said of Halo: Reach, speaking to Eurogamer at a launch event. What are Halo's chances, a platform-exclusive game, at besting a franchise that's only increased in popularity (and earnings) with each iteration?

  • More Xbox 360 UK price drops unlikely 'for many, many years'

Considering that Microsoft dropped the price of the Xbox 360 in September, it's unsurprising to hear the manufacturer's head of gaming and entertainment in the UK, Stephen McGill, delay a further price drop until "many, many years in the future." In fact, he probably -- and secretly -- thought the interviewer was being a bit of a cheapskate.McGill told Videogamer that the encheapened Xbox 360, including the £129.99 Arcade model, currently represents "great value." He noted, "And I think the value not only comes from the price of the console but the content. With NXE launching and obviously that's free for everyone, and the portfolio. There isn't a better range of games and entertainment, basically fun, on any other platform, and we're incredibly affordable." Should you disagree on the incredible affordableness of it all, McGill was also the bearer of sad suspicions. "We're a great price now. I'm not dropping the price for many, many years in the future I would suspect."
