The Lake by Stone Falcon Productions is one of the creepiest, most succinct horror machinima in the history of WoW fan films. Featuring an appropriately irreverent and annoying chief of staff, an intrepid reporter, and plenty of anxious local villagers, The Lake is well worth the watch. We've featured The Lake before now, but the video remains one of our favorites. The animation is good, of course, but it's real selling point is the strong story and convincing voice acting. All in all, The Lake is one of those videos that everyone really should know. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! The Wolvar are one of my favorite parts of Wrath of the Lich King, and I'm darn happy that they're finally getting their moment in the sun. Stone Falcon Productions has brought the love for Wolvar to the public in their mockumentary called Among the Badger Men. Among the Badger Men is an amazing piece of work, especially when you consider the team created this piece in a mere 48 hours. The voice acting is spot on. The music is well selected and perfectly matches the "action" of the film. The plot is wonderfully complex, with enough moving parts to hold the audience's attention through the entire movie. I especially enjoy the characterization of the Badger Men. I grant that the way the Badger Men (People) are portrayed doesn't really match the Wolvar from in-game text, but it's still pretty amusing how they react to the explorer with straight-faced amusement. You should definitely take the time to check out this movie. It's a little longer than most videos we feature here, but i promise it's worth the time. Interested in the wide world of machinima? • WoW Moviewatch: Things You Need

Things You Need is a submission to the machinima category of the 48 Hour Film Project by Stone Falcon Productions, Oblivious Films, and Slashdance. It's a little raucous, and a little rowdy, so your mileage on this film is going to vary according to your taste. It's the story of a down-trodden gnome who encounters a magic shop, gets a tub of magic paint, and hijinks ensue. I really enjoyed the first part of the film. It was cute, amusing, and the musical portions were pretty darn funny. I loved the shop owner, and the dialogue and play between the two characters. It was lighthearted, fast paced, and totally worth the time. I'm not as sold on the gnome's female companion, created using the magical bucket. She's stereotypically vacuous and unsatisfying for the gnome, who decides to erase her. There's two schools of thought on this. The first is the obvious concern about the misogyny, the creation of a "perfect" woman, the exploitation of her, and the immediate use of her for base purposes. The other side to that discussion, of course, is that you can interpret the piece as a criticism of that kind of behavior, questioning the motives and character of a man who would do such a thing. Ultimately, though, I don't know if there's a lot to be read into it except a joke, and whether or not you find the joke funny. Like I said, your mileage is going to vary. Although the BlizzCon movie contest was hardly publicized at all -- no press releases about the contest or the winners -- it yielded the cream of the WoW machinima crop so we will be featuring the winning movies here at WoW Moviewatch for the next few days. The winner in each category, as well as the Grand Prize winner, received the newly minted Oswald award to put on their shelves. (I hereby dub thee The Ozzie!) Today we feature the Grand Prize winner, Snacky's Journal - Episode 4 by the typically brilliant Stone Falcon Productions. This film also won the Drama/Romance category (see below), even though I think it is better suited for the Comedy category. It's good, Snackish fun, with high quality film-making and acting, as all the Snackys are. I like the new fem gnome and I hope she continues in the series because she's a cute character and could make for a good foil for Snacky. Here's a list of the other winners, along with links to ones that have been already featured on WoW Insider. We'll feature and comment on some of the others this week. Action/Adventure Category Runner-up: The Future Soon by Spiffworld Runner-up: Mercy of the Sea by Sleeping Dog Productions Winner: Divided Soul by Falch Productions Comedy Category Runner-up: Fruit of Elune by Myndflame Runner-up: The Dead Murloc by KILH Machinima Winner: The Rumpus Machine by Oblivious Films Drama/Romance Category Runner-up: Dead Rain 2 by Bear on a Trampoline Runner-up: Redshift by Slashdance Winner: Snacky's Journal - Episode 4 by Stone Falcon Productions If you have any suggestions for WoW Moviewatch, you can mail them to us at machinima AT wowinsider DOT com.

Life's a beach, and this orc is ready to party, in Beach Party 2: Endless Waves. When he moves to a new town, he thinks he'll never make friends, but then he stumbles onto the beach. Between surfing, saving the local hangout, and dancing the night away, his summer schedule is suddenly full, and he learns the meaning of love and friendship. This machinima, created by Jun Falkenstein, of Stone Falcon Productions, was created way back in November 2006. She created it to enter the Blizzard and Xfire 2006 Summer movie contest, where she won second prize in the Short Feature category. She employed a beach movie theme, which was wildly popular in the Frankie and Annette days of the 60s, yet it's still timeless enough to be featured these days.[Via Warcraftmovies.com]If you have machinima or movie suggestions from any MMO, please send them to machinima AT massively DOT com, along with any information you might have about them.

Before Snacky's Journal, there was Beach Party 2. When an orc moves to a new town, he never thinks he'll have fun -- until he ends up on the beach. Soon he's making friends, surfing, partying, and even finding romance.Dating back to November 2006, it's a throwback to the silly beach-themed films of the 60s, typically starring Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello. Jun Falkenstein, of Stone Falcon Productions, did an amazing job of capturing the essence of those movies. In fact, Blizzard and Xfire awarded her 2nd prize in the Short Feature category of the 2006 Summer movie contest![Via Warcraftmovies.com]If you have any suggestions for WoW Moviewatch, you can mail them to us at machinima AT wowinsider DOT com.Previously on Moviewatch ...

  • WoW Moviewatch: Gametrotting machinima documentary

Lifeskool highlighted machinima as part of their Gametrotting series last year. According to Jun Falkenstein, of Stone Falcon Productions, those interviewed were asked to speak to the audience as if they'd never heard of this emerging medium. While most coverage of gaming and machinima tends to miss the mark, I found this documentary to be humorous and quite informative. Some of the juicy morsels of this short doc include commentary by Philip Debevoise, of Machinima.com, and machinima from a variety of different platforms. World of Warcraft is discussed pretty heavily in the documentary, showcasing clips from Snacky's Journal, WoW 300, the South Park WoW episode. [Via Jun Falkenstein]Previously on Moviewatch ...

Jun Falkenstein recently blogged about a machinima documentary that she was in last summer. When I checked it out, I was surprised to see the all-star crew of machinimators that they assembled for it. They were asked to explain machinima as if the audience had never heard, or seen, of it.In the video, Philip Debevoise, the President of Machinima.com, discusses what machinima is all about. Frank Dellario, of the Electric Sheep Company-owned ILL Clan, gives us a peek at how his team works as well. I really enjoyed seeing the variety of platforms that this mini-documentary highlighted, and I hope to see more coverage like this in the future![Via Stone Falcon Productions]

With the Snacky's Journal Episode 4 teaser released yesterday, I guess I'm feeling a bit nostalgic. This award-winning series, by Stone Falcon Productions, is about a gnome rogue, Snacky, and his night elf friend, Angie. They get into all sorts of trouble together, including murloc mishaps, weight training gone wrong, and a fishing fiasco.Episode 1 introduces us to Snacky through his writings in a journal that Angie gives him. As he is finishing up, he is interrupted by his friend, who suggests that they go murloc tipping. You'll just have to watch to see if things go as planned. Apparently Episide 4 could be the very last, so enjoy the series while you can!

Snacky's Journal, the award-winning series by Stone Falcon Productions, may be coming to a close soon. Jun Falkenstein, the creator of the series, has taken on a job directing a sci-fi film. However, she released this teaser for Snacky 4 yesterday. It looks like Episode 4 may bring Snacky a girlfriend! This preview is short and sweet, but shows much promise, as Snacky and a lady friend are checking out Mechanistriders. How do you think the series will end?[Thanks, Drewbie!]Previously on Moviewatch ...

We like this machinima not only because it's made by one of our favorite machinima studios, Stone Falcon Productions, but also because it's set in City of Heroes, which seems to have a rather limited machinima community. Though The Revenge of Dr. Mechanico, like most of Stone Falcon's pieces, is a comedy, it's also the story of an epic battle between good and evil. (Over -- what else? -- a girl!)

A video by Stone Falcon Productions well before they became known for the Snacky's series, Goth Girl is the tragic tale of a young Undead -- set to music, of course. It doesn't have quite the same sense of humor as Snacky's Journal or Ballad of the Noob, but its production value is just as high as either. So give it a try and enjoy!Previously on Moviewatch...

They have posted a video preview of their upcoming mini-movie about a fishing trip gone horribly wrong. I know this preview is supposed tide us over until the latest installment can be completed, but it's so crazy good it only makes me want to see the next one even more. For those of you unfamiliar with Snacky's Journal, it's one of the best WoW-based machinima series out there. The production value, voice acting, pacing and writing are all top notch. You can also watch the video in HQ Streaming video here.
