If stated plans are any indication, Shroud of the Avatar is in for a busy first few months of the new year. In a recent newsletter, the team recapped the "flexible" schedule for the game's early 2015 updates. January's Release 14 will expand zone connections, add in the Shardfall biome, begin testing on a new version of Unity, and add things like player banks, an encumbrance system, and in-game pledge rewards. February's Release 15 has its eye on several new mainland areas including the Necropolis, more magic spells, housing fees, dyeable outfits, teachable emotes, and crafting skills. Finally, March's Release 16 is going to add Steam achievements, a cover system in combat, and localization. The team also released one of the backer rewards, a cover version of the classic Ultima Stones theme by the band The Space Bards, and you can listen to it after the break!

One of the most fascinating and unique features of Frogster's Runes of Magic is... well, magic runes in the game. These are special runes used to improve equipment. Through the use of power stones, and eventually mana stones, weapons and armor in the game can be refined and upgraded into even more powerful tools against your enemies. Pretty standard for an RPG, yet where it gets its unique flavor is through the Arcane Transmutor, where players can actually experiment with different combinations or runes and attributes to create their own special runes. The Arcane Transmutor is now available for players involved with the game's open beta, going on now. Previously, only basic recipes were available, but with the introduction of this mysterious and powerful artifact, the rune and stone combinations will add a whole new level to the game. If you haven't had a chance to check out Runes of Magic yet, it's free on their website for anyone to try during this open beta. To discover even more information on the Arcane Transmutor, check out the complete press release just after the cut below.

There's only six more days until Wrath's release. Each day until the release we'll take a look at one thing you can do to prepare for the expansion. Taking a half hour here and there to get things ready before release will let you spend more time in Northrend and less time doing some of the un-fun things.Yesterday Alison cover bringing the right food and drinks to Northrend. Quite important to get ready ahead of time if you want to level quickly and easily. Along the same lines are potions, stones, and oils to take with you on your journeys.Let's take look at a long list of some easily obtainable items you should stock up on now. The goal of this list is to go over things that will survive through death. So we're not putting things like elixirs on it. No need to waste lots of expensive items when you die. Also, while flasks are definitely an option to use if you have them, chances are they're all used up with the last bit of raiding in Burning Crusade.
