How is AMC's MoviePass competitor faring as 2018 winds to a close? Quite well, if you ask the theater chain. AMC reports that Stubs A-List has over 600,000 subscribers as of the end of the year, or six months after its June debut. As the company has repeatedly mentioned, it only expected to rack up 500,000 members within a full year.

It's not just upstarts like MoviePass hiking rates for their movie subscription services. AMC is raising prices for its Stubs A-List service in the 15 states where it's "most popular." As of January 9th, 2019, the service will jump from $20 per month to $22 per month in Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington state and DC. That price is climbing to $24 per month in California, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey and New York. You'll still get the $20 per month rate for a year if you subscribe before January 9th, as well as in the 35 other states not affected by the price increase.

AMC is making it even easier for you to use the Stubs A-List subscription program, as members will now be able to get movie tickets through Fandango and Atom Tickets. The company launched A-List, its answer to MoviePass, in June, and though the three-movies-per-week plan cost more than what MoviePass was offering at the time -- one movie per day for $10 per month -- it also featured a few perks that MoviePass lacked, such as IMAX and 3D showings, repeat viewings and booking in advance.

Not to be left out, Sinemia has an announcement this week too: The movie-ticket subscription service is introducing family plans to its offerings. Pricing for its "For Two" tier have changed slightly, and if you want to add another person to the mix, it jumps accordingly. A three-person plan for one standard ticket (each) per month will set you back $/£14.99, while two tickets (each) per month will cost $/£24.99. Bumping up to include 3D films and one IMAX engagement boosts the price to $29.99 per month. Want three tickets (each) per month with 3D films and one IMAX showing? That'll be $/£44.99 each month.

That took.... longer than expected: To compete with MoviePass, AMC Theaters will launch a monthly subscription service starting June 26th. With the AMC Stubs A-List program, in exchange for $19.95 per month folks will be able to see three movies of their choosing per week -- even if that means seeing the same movie three times in the same day. According to a press release, this also includes IMAX, Dolby Cinema and 3D features. You can buy tickets day-of or weeks in advance, too, using either the AMC website or mobile app.
