    Super Bowl LI commercials were heavy on tech and politics

    For people who don't care about football, watching the Super Bowl is mostly about enjoying the overhyped commercials that happen during the event. (That and the half-time show.) Naturally, tech companies see this as an opportunity to connect with mainstream audiences, leading them to spend millions of dollars on cheesy ads. A good example of that is T-Mobile's Super Bowl LI spot featuring Justin Bieber, in which he promotes the carrier's unlimited plans by showing off his "#UnlimitedMoves." Yup, we know.

    Tech companies are ready to make the most from one of the biggest sporting events in the world, the Super Bowl. That includes Amazon, which will air its first-ever Big Game commercial during the 50th edition of the NFL's main event. The ad's teaser focuses on the Echo speaker and Alexa, the retailer's virtual assistant, and stars Alec Baldwin alongside football legend Dan Marino. You can see Baldwin ask Alexa things like "what's a snack stadium," in preparation for his Super Bowl party.

    With Super Bowl 50 set to kick off on Sunday, February 7th, YouTube doesn't want advertisers waiting until then to debut their highly anticipated commercials. As part of a major push for its AdBlitz video platform, which hosts Super Bowl ads and promotes them across Google's advertising network, the company's encouraging advertisers to show content on YouTube before The Big Game even starts. And it wants to make it clear that the strategy really works.

    By now, we've become accustomed to the circus of elite advertising that takes place during America's biggest game, and this year was no exception. Last night's Super Bowl made room for over 50 commercials during its air time, some of which included the likes of Samsung's whopping Galaxy Note, the usual Go Daddy domain teasers, a bit of Best Buy "innovation" and the Hulu Plus Mushy Mush campaign, just to mention a few. Needless to say, we put together a small collection of some we believe you might enjoy, so take a virtual jump past the break to catch the big-ticket advertising in action.   • Motorola buys Super Bowl ad spot

    Looks like Motorola's fully back in the game: not only does it have the hottest Android device you can (currently) buy in the Droid, word today is that the company's dished out somewhere between $2.5 and $3 million for at least one Super Bowl commercial. It's been a while since Motorola last spent so lavishly on an ad campaign, so we're super curious to see what device the ad is for -- the safe bet is obviously the Droid, but CES could bring both the AT&T-destined Backflip and Sholes Tablet, so it's all up in the air. Our main hope? The return of HELLO MOTO.
