  • Browsing Twitter and Instagram in VR? Yup, it's a thing

I know, you bought yourself a VR rig and never want to take it off. It's the future, that's natural! And with something like the Gear VR's passthrough camera you don't even need to remove the headset to do menial "real-world" chores like going to the bathroom, grabbing another Mountain Dew out of the fridge or some Doritos out of the cupboard. But what if you wanted to check your Twitter feed or see how many new likes that Instagram photo of hitting your activity goal on your Apple Watch got while avoiding meatspace? Have no fear folks, because with a new app called Swerve you'll be able to do that without removing your Android VR system. The app puts Twitter into a 3D space and as VR Focus notes, you can peruse searches, mentions and hashtags too -- apparently all in a cloud-filled skybox. Perfect.

No sooner had we heard about the minute differences in the design of the Verizon (CDMA) iPhone 4 than the TUAW inbox began filling up with news of cases that would work with both the original GSM/AT&T iPhone 4 and also with the Verizon models. Some of the first VZW-compatible iPhone 4 cases we've actually laid hands on come from iFrogz, one of the long-time iPhone accessory manufacturers. To celebrate the release of both the Verizon iPhone 4 and the ability of the iFrogz cases to work with any iPhone 4, TUAW is giving away four of the protective beauties. What do we have on hand? From left to right in the image above: For the car fanatic, there's the US$19.99 SiliconeTreadz case. It's a 100 percent silicone case with a tire tread pattern, and is treated with anti-dust technology. For someone who likes a soft feel to their iPhone case, there's the $29.99 Luxe Original. It's a hard plastic case in gray and black with a soft-touch finish. For the person who wants a hard case with an attractive etched pattern, consider the $24.99 Soft Gloss Phase. It's clear and blue with a spiraling pattern of dots, and the Apple logo on the back of the iPhone 4 shines through. For protection and style, the $29.99 Swerve may be the case for you. It has a nice sleek exterior and a colorful (powder blue to dark blue) hard plastic insert for two layers of protection.

Can't get enough Phil Harrison in your life? Check out this video from the media Q&A following his GDC keynote for 20 minutes of Phil-y love (and maybe a few furtive glances from Kaz Hirai sitting in the background). We just love how Phil "swerve[d] a couple of the questions" regarding the hard drive and other hardware-related issues, but we also like how he managed to clarify those questions regarding "content offerings" that will be charged at a "premium," though he did say that there were "no plans to charge for [multiplayer gaming] at the moment."But, yeah, Mr. Harrison wasn't as combative in his answers as some media outlets portrayed him, which is another great step for platform executives who tend to make rather grandiose statements and fiery claims. If you want to see as well as hear the Phil handle all comers, this is one of your best chances yet. We'd love to hear it all clearly in English at E3, too.[Thanks, Fan; video courtesy of Jean-Baptiste Su of Citizen Valley]
