A GOP contractor known as Synnex was breached over the weekend by Russian government-backed hackers.
Acer Allegro officially on sale in France and Taiwan
Here it is, folks: the inaugural Windows Phone from Acer, known as the Allegro, is now ready and rearin' to be sold. Not only is it coming to France as originally expected, it appears that Taiwan has elected to join in the fun as well. It's no top-notch device, but it doesn't pretend to be either. Even then, the specs aren't that much of a disappointment: it comes with a 3.6-inch WVGA (800 x 480) display, 1GHz single-core Qualcomm MSM8255 CPU, 8GB internal storage, 5MP rear camera with LED flash and a 1,300mAh battery. We'd like to see a front-facing cam and a larger juicepack, but it still promises a lengthy nine hours of talk time regardless. And the no-contract price is definitely tempting, with it being sold currently in France for €285 ($380); Taiwanese customers can wander into their local Synnex store on November 30th, likely at a very similar price point. HP TouchPad to be available June 22nd, starting at $500 for 16GB?
We've learned to take possible TouchPad release dates with a grain of salt at this point, but enterprise vendor Synnex has now provided yet another possible one, as well some additional confirmation of earlier leaks. According to a pair of listings on its website, the HP TouchPad (curiously also sporting the Pavilion moniker here) is estimated to be available on June 22nd in both 16GB and 32GB capacities for $499.99 and $599.99, respectively (the latter of which matches the price already spotted at Walmart). For those looking to accessorize, an HP-branded TouchPad case is also listed. Of course, an ETA doesn't necessarily indicate an actual release date, but this particular one is at least closer to the last official word out of HP than recent rumors have suggested. Take-Two sells Jack of All Games
Take-Two announced the sale of Jack of All Games to software distribution mega-company Synnex. Jack of All Games, acquired by Take-Two in 1998, distributes games published by Take-Two (and its various brands) to retail. The sale is expected to be completed sometime in the first quarter of 2010, and will cost Synnex "$43.25 million, including $36.50 million in cash and up to an additional $6.75 million based on the achievement of certain items." In the announcement, Take-Two CEO Ben Feder indicated that the company will continue to work with Jack of All Games after the sale. Though at first this move would seem to be aimed at bringing money in during a period of disappointing performance, the company also reduced its forecasted first-quarter revenues, since it can no longer count money being brought in by Jack of All Games.
