'Nioh' will bring 4K graphics and punishing difficulty to PC

Developer Team Ninja's comeback story Nioh will make its way from PlayStation 4 to PC next month. It'll take the form of Nioh: The Complete Edition and feature the punishing game's trio of add-on packs, a "stable" 60FPS frame rate, or, what Tecmo calls "Movie Mode." That (probably) doesn't drop the frame rate to 24 frames per-second and add letterbox bars, but it does bump the resolution as high as 4K. As a nod to where the digital-only game almost positively will appear, it also features a special helmet with a valve-like design. So, Steam sounds like a likely place to find the game when it's released on November 7th.

Fan requests didn't change 'Nioh' too much

In an age where developers seemingly bend over backwards to accommodate fan requests (cough, the Mass Effect 3 ending, cough), Team Ninja decided to buck that for its latest game, Nioh. That's not to say that the developer didn't take feedback to heart for its samurai action title, just not all of it according to a post on the PlayStation Blog.

You know that Koei Tecmo staffer who claimed that Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 wasn't shipping to Europe or the US due to concerns about sexism? Apparently, he was speaking out of line. The developer has posted a statement saying that the rep doesn't reflect its "opinion or business strategy." In other words, it wants you to take those sexism claims with a grain of salt.

  • 'Hyrule Warriors' hacks and slashes its way to 3DS

Hyrule Warriors, the Zelda-themed hack-and-slash game that hit Wii U in 2014, is on its way to 3DS, according to a new Japanese trailer. The 3DS version comes from Wii U developers Omega Force and Team Ninja, and of course Japanese publisher Koei Tecmo. It looks like the pirate Tetra and the King of Hyrule are playable characters in the 3DS edition, and the final frames of the new trailer suggest compatibility with the Wii U version. The video's title says, "Announced at E3," and you better believe we'll break out all of the Hylian information directly from the show, which runs from June 16th to 18th. In the meantime, we've reached out to Nintendo for more information about Hyrule Warriors on 3DS.

var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/xbox/X3F_TV_X3F_Impressions_Ninja_Gaiden_II_demo'; We can think of a lot of great things to sell our souls for, such as telekinesis, a swimming pool full of hundred dollar bills, or a seventh season of Mr. Belvedere. However, Xbox 360 Fanboy's Richard Mitchell (or as we like to call him around the office, Rich Mitch) recently showed his undying love for scarved ninjas by dealing with Beelzebub to get his hands on an early copy of the Ninja Gaiden II demo. Judging by the tone of his impressions as he plays the first seven minutes of the preview, it was totally worth it.We strongly advise watching the above video -- not only will it get you totally pumped for the quickly approaching June 3 release date for the title, but you can also witness Rich Mitch's incredible proclivity for ninja flipping and henchman dismemberment.

In their continuing series on correct pronunciation -- hopefully, you still remember how to say Fils-Aime -- MTV's Multiplayer blog has posted a brief recording with Ninja Gaiden creator Tomonobu Itagaki. In the video posted above, you'll learn how to correctly pronounce Ninja Gaiden (of course, we always said it right, Itagaki-san), Helena, and Itagaki's name itself. While we appreciate the public service announcement, we think Itagaki's time might be better spent doing some Ninja Gaiden anger management counseling. Game be frustrating, yo.[Via Joystiq. • Ninja Gaiden 2 details in latest EGM

Gamer's Creed reports that the latest issue of EGM contains some fresh details on the upcoming dismemberment-fest, Ninja Gaiden 2. First and foremost, the game will not feature a multiplayer component. Given the series' recent entries, this isn't exactly surprising, but it is disappointing. We expect the game will feature an online single-player component similar to the Master Ninja Tournament in the original Xbox title, though. Other new details include real world environments and Obliteration Techniques, which allow Ryu to completely dismember an enemy after removing a limb. Said limbs will remain on screen, by the way. Also, enemies have co-operative attacks (as if they weren't deadly enough already). Speaking of enemies, Ryu will also have to deal with a rival ninja, who apparently looks "bad ass" according to creator Tomonobu Itagaki. Finally, as if all this wasn't exciting enough, the game is planned for a spring 2008 release. We humbly request a demo to tide us over until then. Make it happen, Team Ninja.

  • Rumor: Ninja Gaiden 2 on the 360 at the TGS

An interesting turn of rumored events have surfaced regarding Team Ninja's sequel to the beloved Ninja Gaiden franchise and its console future. According to Gamespot Korea (which is in Korean, so have fun reading that), they've "confirmed" with a Japanese gaming insider that Ninja Gaiden 2 will be released on the Xbox 360 and will be shown on the 360 at the Tokyo Game Show. They supposedly will be demoing the game on a 360 due to their strong relationship with Microsoft and because they probably love having fists full of cash. Also interesting to note is that the Japanese tipster said that a PS3 release wasn't detailed yet, hinting at a possible timed exclusive for the 360. Juicy stuff. But remember kids, we're nearly required to file this Ninja Gaiden 2 news in the rumor / spec folder, because of all the vagueness. Heck, we can't even read the Korean Gamespot story to confirm its text. But we have to admit the thought of Ninja Gaiden 2 on the 360, at the TGS and being a timed exclusive just makes us giddy.[Thanks, Jim]

The fine folks at Joystiq recently got a chance to sit down with Dead or Alive creator and snappy dresser, Tomonobu Itagaki. During their chat, Joystiq had a chance to ask Itagaki a few questions about upcoming projects, reviews of Dead or Alive Xtreme 2, and what he thinks about the current crop of consoles. We won't spoil the whole interview for you, but, as Xbox 360 fanboys, we would be remiss if we didn't tell you that he prefers the Xbox 360. Oh, and if you're a Tekken fan, it's probably best you don't mention it around him. Hit the "Read" link for the full interview.

This is potentially interesting future news: Team Ninja's Yusuke Hayashi, who is directing the re-remake of Ninja Gaiden, would maybe be okay with making a Wii game or whatever. If he had a good idea for one."There are several groups within Team Ninja. The PS3 group, the Xbox 360 group, and there are Wii fans in Team Ninja." At this point, any new Team Ninja game is, statistically speaking, most likely to be a port of either Ninja Gaiden or Dead or Alive 2. If you like either of those games (and why not?) then you can probably look forward to one of them on the Wii![Via Joystiq]

  • RUMOR: Dead or Alive and Disgaea coming to PS3?

Leave it to EGM's rumor mill to churn out a tasty new rumor. It's rumored that an XBox staple, Dead or Alive, might be making its fifth iteration exclusively on the Sony gigantor bot -- the PlayStation 3. Actually, that's not entirely true. Team Ninja is supposedly making something revolving around the DoA universe on the PS3. Not specifically the fifth entry into the franchise. What was that last God-awful fighting game spinoff? Death by Degrees? Bad call, Tekken, bad call. Also mentioned in the magazine is the idea that Nippon-Ichi's popular SRPG series, Disgaea, will be making its way onto the PlayStation 3 as well. Not much else is known -- will it be on the PSN (since the games are, admittedly, not the finest looking), will it be a remake, sequel, what? No matter, we'll find out in due time. Personally, I'm not too fond of the games. You waste too much time getting absolutely nothing at all accomplished. Levelling up is a joke, blah blah blah add your own opinions.

  • Ninja Gaiden Sigma: no load screens, no problem

    02.13.2007

Tecmo's Director of Ninja Gaidem Sigma, Yosuke Hayashi, recently sat down for an interview about how the game is coming along. It's mostly good news. Let's see if we can pick out the important bits. Development is about 50% complete and Team Ninja is confident the game will be a smash hit. They've gotten used to working with the PS3, too. When asked what was different about Sigma from Black, Hayashi said: "it's going to be endless if I start counting the differences from the original." All the materials are created from scratch and the action engine has been refined, to start. As far as utilizing the PS3's hard disk and PS-Network, Hayashi says Sigma will use the hard disk to eliminate "now loading" screens altogether. The Network will be used, initially, for worldwide scores and rankings. Detailed info on each player will also be available. Hayashi was asked how the PS3 would fare as a console. He replied: "I am not an analyst. I'm just a game developer. My mission is to provide the best action game for PS3 users. That's all that matters to me, and I promise that you'll experience something really fantastic with Sigma." So true. As for a rumored 360 version of Sigma, Hayashi responded: "I would take that rumour as proof that people's expectations for Sigma must be very high. But it is just a rumour." Great! This game will be pretty sweet, hopefully. We'll keep our eyes out for more information on this game.

  • Microsoft celebrates Year of the Boar with boring bundles

Microsoft is ushering in the (Lunar) New Year with a pair of discounted Xbox 360 game packs. One set includes Project Gotham Racing 3 and Ridge Racer 6; the other, Dead or Alive 4 and Dead or Alive Xtreme 2. The 'Year of the Boar' branded bundles are being sold in Taiwan, where Xbox 360 launched last March. At $1,490 TWD (about $45 USD) a pop, the festive fun-packs aren't screaming "buy me" -- at least from our perspective. We're looking at three launch titles that have since been bargain-binned and a virtual peep show. This the best Microsoft could scoop outta the over-manufactured heap? Or do these hit the "target"?

  • DOA's bouncing breasts to test "sex sells" cliche

Team Ninja's latest Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 trailer (available on Xbox Live Marketplace) has been called "too bouncy." Indeed, if you care to watch, you'll be transported to a fantasy island where unreal beauties frolic and dance, wrestle and massage, read and relax -- and bounce.Big boobs and bikinis are enlisted to sell all kinds of products, from magazines to music to beer. But can they sell games? Should we consider DOAX2's gross exaggeration of the adage "sex sells" to be pioneering?

We never thought we'd say this, but the new Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 trailer may be too bouncy. Available on Marketplace right now (the old E3 trailer has been re-re-released as well), the trailer is very long and very bouncy. So bouncy that it's disturbing, and, dare we say it, unrealistic. But that's really what it's all about, right? Still, this trailer is naughty. Lei Fang on a stripper pole, a little girl on girl "back rub" action, and more tiny swimsuits than you can shake a stick at. Honestly, we wouldn't be surprised if DOAX2 becomes a media target when it ships this winter. Seriously, it's just south of actual porn. See what all the fuss is about after the break. Oh, and they're all technically wearing clothes, but it's still probably NSFW.

Xboxygen has scored some scans of DOAX2 from the latest Famitsu. To be honest, some of these pictures are downright shameful. But, what should we expect from a man who designs his games drunk? Take a look at the upper left corner of the first scan for a little scissor icon. Digital pin-ups? Just for a change of pace, the second scan features actual volleyball and jet skis.Anyone care to translate, or are the pictures universal?[Thanks, gaetge]

Gamedaily sat down with Tomonobu Itagaki and got some new details on DOAX 2. For instance, the trailer on Marketplace is confirmed real time! I'm sure the same people who skeev out over Rumble Roses will continue to complain about this game's fixation on jiggling polygonal flesh, despite volleyball's inate moral superiority to professional wrestling. Besides, don't they know we only want this disc for the jet ski mini-game.[Thanks Sense]
