Netflix has revealed that the movies it commissions are really popular. Huh.

Netflix films won just two Oscars after 'Parasite' swept major awards

Netflix might have dominated Oscar nominations, but as with the Golden Globes, the big evening itself was a disappointment. The streaming service only gained two Oscars, with Laura Dern winning best supporting actor in Marriage Story and American Factory taking the best documentary prize. Meanwhile, its huge bet on Martin Scorsese's The Irishman failed to produce a single statue, despite 10 nominations.

Netflix receives more than 20 Oscar nominations

After flopping at the Golden Globes, Netflix may have a chance to redeem itself at the Oscars. The 2020 Oscar nominations are in, and Netflix has received more than 20 nods.

Netflix says 26.4 million accounts watched ‘The Irishman’ in its first week

Netflix had a lot riding on The Irishman -- the Martin Scorsese crime saga starring Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci. The film has been in the works for almost a decade, and Netflix, which reportedly invested as much as $200 million, has been involved for years. So, the company is understandably braggadocious that, in The Irishman's first seven days on the platform, it was watched by 26.4 million accounts globally -- 26,404,081 to be precise.

Netflix dominates Golden Globes nominations while Apple lands its first

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has announced the nominees for the 2020 Golden Globes, and this could be a milestone year for streaming. Netflix is even more of a frontrunner among streaming services than it was last year, with 17 TV network nominations and a flood of nods for movies like Marriage Story (six), The Irishman (five) and The Two Popes (four). In some cases, it's even the dominant force -- in both the best picture and best supporting actor categories, three out of five nominees are Netflix projects.

Apple TV+ scores its first award nomination with 'The Morning Show'

Apple TV+ has bagged its first award nomination less than two months after launch, although Apple might not want to flaunt its critical acclaim just yet. The Critics' Choice Association has nominated The Morning Show's Billy Crudup (pictured at left) for a Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series award, pitting him against the likes of Game of Thrones' Peter Dinklage and This Is Us' Asante Blackk. This is no mean feat given that it took rivals like Netflix years to get their first big award nominations, but it's also clear that Apple has a long way to go before it's raking in trophies.

Netflix steps in to save New York’s historic ‘Paris Theatre’

One of New York's oldest and most unique theaters has found an unlikely savior: Netflix. On Monday, the streaming giant announced that it has signed a lease to keep the Paris Theatre, the city's only remaining single-screen cinema, in operation. The theater had closed this past August after showing a run of Pavarotti.

What's coming to Netflix in November: 'The Irishman' and 'Queer Eye'

November is a colossal month in the streaming ecosystem, with heavyweight newcomers Apple TV+ and Disney+ both making their debuts. Netflix doesn't plan to go quietly into the night though, as it has plenty of major titles coming to its platform over the month. Most notably, Martin Scorcese's latest mob epic The Irishman will hit Netflix November 27th -- just in time for Thanksgiving weekend. Also on the docket are The King, starring Timothée Chalamet (November 1st), and season two of The End of the F***ing World (November 5th).

De Niro is in top form in Netflix's 'The Irishman' trailer

Netflix has released a new trailer for Marin Scorsese's next movie, The Irishman. The movie reunites Scorsese with Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci, the three of whom made a little know movie together called Goodfellas. Building on the teaser the company released earlier in the year, the trailer details more of film's story and the visual effects that were used to make De Niro and company look like their younger selves.

Netflix’s ‘The Irishman’ debuts in select theaters November 1st

We've been waiting for the debut of Netflix's The Irishman -- Martin Scorsese's crime drama starring Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci -- for two years. And the film has reportedly been in the works for almost a decade. As we learned last month, The Irishman will get a swanky world premiere as the New York Film Festival opener on September 27th. Now, Variety reports that it will land in theaters as a limited release on November 1st. It'll hit the streaming service just a few weeks later, on November 27th.

'The Irishman' trailer shows Scorsese and Netflix chasing critical glory

If there was any doubt that Netflix was hunting for awards with Martin Scorsese's The Irishman, it just got erased. The streaming service has released a teaser (really, a first trailer) for the mob epic, and it's clear the movie is a callback to Scorsese classics like Goodfellas and Casino in more ways than one. There's the premise, for a start -- it shows the evolution of the Mafia over decades through the perspective of the hitman who claimed to have killed Jimmy Hoffa. However, it's the acting talent that's on clearest display here.

Netflix's 'The Irishman' will open the New York Film Festival

Martin Scorsese directing Robert De Niro and Al Pacino in a crime saga. If that weren't evidence enough Netflix is hoping for another major Oscars player with The Irishman, the movie will have a swanky world premiere when it opens the New York Film Festival September 27th.
