Yes, after a short and tumultuous journey into the world of video last week, our podcast returns to its audio roots, and this week, Turpster and I welcome a special guest host, direct from Brigwyn's Child's Play charity auction. Listener Kevin D. was kind enough to step up and donate a very generous amount of money to Child's Play, and for that (and because he's a cool guy), we'll be welcoming him on the show. He's got a few things he wants to talk about, including how guilds work together, how to balance WoW and life, and why people are or aren't shy as they play the game. And of course we'll answer a few of your emails (you can send those to theshow@wow.com now), and during the meat of the show, we'll talk about the most popular posts from the last week.Should be a lot of fun, and hey here's this: by the time we go live, we'll all know whether we have BlizzCon tickets or not. Scary, no? Join us over on the our Ustream page at May 30, 2009 3:30 PM EDT var date_span = document.getElementById("date"); var date = new Date(date_span.innerHTML); var monthname=new Array("Jan","Feb","Mar","Apr","May","Jun","Jul","Aug", "Sep","Oct","Nov","Dec"); var weekday=new Array("Sunday","Monday","Tuesday","Wednesday","Thursday", "Friday","Saturday"); var year = date.getFullYear(); var day_of_month = date.getDate(); var month = monthname[date.getMonth()]; var day = weekday[date.getDay()]; var hour = date.getHours(); if (hour > 11) { if (hour > 12) {hour -= 12} am_pm = "PM"; } else { am_pm = "AM"; } var minute = date.getMinutes(); if (minute < 10) { minute = "0"+minute; } date_string = day + ", " + month + " " + day_of_month; date_string += " at " + hour + ":" + minute + " " + am_pm; offset = -date.getTimezoneOffset()/60; if (offset >= 0) { offset = "+"+offset; } date_string += " in your time zone (GMT"+offset+")"; date_span.innerHTML = (date_string); , or you can jump after the break to see an embedded feed. And if you don't make it, don't worry -- we had some unfortunate issues with all of the video last week, but I can guarantee that this week, our audio will be back in the feed ready for your ears on Monday.Should be a lot of fun -- we'll see you on Saturday afternoon.

Our podcast is back for another day today, and it's going to be a good one. We're welcoming to the airwaves the first ex-Blizzard employee we've ever had. Michael Sacco, aka Belfaire, aka The Talbuk, is going to be live on our show, and we'll talk to him about what it was like to be an actual Blue. Turpster will be on as well (and you know it's a good time when he's around), and we'll be chatting about whether Heirloom items are worth the purchase, the most embarassing things we've all done in Azeroth, how to dive into Heroics right around when you hit level 80, and we'll try to conquer some of the Death Knight changes in the upcoming patch. And as usual we'll answer your emails and just generally have a great time. The show starts at 3:30pm Eastern, 8:30 GMT over on Ustream or right here (we've put an embed of the feed right after the break, so you can listen right from our site). Remember, if you're in the chat and you want to change your name, use "/nick name" (where name is the name you want), and if the feed cuts out for any reason, you can probably refresh the page and it'll come back up. Please keep your hands and feet inside the ride at all times, and please don't feed the Turpster, his trainers give him plenty to eat as it is.See you at 3:30 Eastern! Enjoy the show!

We're very apologetic when we admit that none of us on staff at PS3 Fanboy really play sports titles. Especially when we hear such good things about MLB '08: The Show. Guilt, maybe. We're missing out, but since it's not our forte and would feel stupid for passing judgment on something we're not particularly experienced with, we decided to give The Show a metareview instead of a full review. So, what are other sites saying about this game and how it stacks up compared to last year's rendition? Take the jump to find out.%Gallery-11641%

It's really interesting to see sports titles, generally rehashed year by year with minor improvements, finally take the plunge into the latest batch of consoles. It's obvious they've done that here. IGN has an incredibly comprehensive preview of MLB '08: The Show for you -- so comprehensive we won't dare summarize everything they go over. Your head may explode in a sequence of gamegasms. As far as baseball titles go, this one's looking pretty hot. We're going to put it on our radar and keep you up to date on it as more details emerge.

Sure, baseball is under fire in America currently due to some kind of "performance enhancer" or whatever, but that doesn't mean we can't look forward to creating our own superhero of a sportsman in MLB '08: The Show. We've got two trailers for you today and since we don't have sports games featured here that often -- you're welcome. Enjoy the second one after the jump!

WoW Insider once again takes to the virtual airwaves of WoW Radio tomorrow. On Episode 5 of our podcast, we'll chat once again about everything that's happened in the World (of Warcraft) this past week, and boy howdy is that a lot. There's voice chat and the new sound engine in 2.2, the rebirth of Alterac Valley, lots of patch 2.3 to discuss (I'm especially thrilled that Shaman shields are getting some much-needed love), and we'll also hit on progressive content, as well as those required Arena ratings you folks are so interested in.Should be fun as always, and remember you're invited to join us both via email at theshow@wow.com, and on IRC live during the show-- hit up irc.mmoirc.org in channel #wowradio, or just jump on at the WoW Radio site.I'll be there, WoW Insider's Robin Torres will be along for the ride, and we'll have some folks from WoW Radio on as well (my guess is that Turpster will be on board as usual). Check it out tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 pm EST, or 8:30 pm GMT. Because if you like our site, you'll love the live audio version of it.

Even though MLB '07: The Show was just released, we're not going to hesitate to bring you some fresh screenshots of the game. America's favorite past time (aside from football ... and basketball) looks fantastic on the PS3 and this game really shows off what the future of sports titles on the PS3 should be. Even though they're technically just updated rosters and cleaned up graphics year after year, they're still enjoyable and some mechanics change every now and then. If you've grabbed a hold of this game, what do you think? Check out a video, after the cut.%Gallery-3200%

  • News flash: Baseball players play baseball games

Apparently baseball players' involvement with video games goes further than Guitar Hero related injuries. An Orange County Register story reveals that games like Sony's MLB '07 The Show have "virtually become required playing in every clubhouse and on the PSPs players use to pass travel time." The little factoid is unattributed, but probably came from Mets third baseman and The Show cover star David Wright, who goes on to explain the game's usefulness as a tool for checking out the competition. "Pitchers throw the curves and sliders they're known for and hitters chase what they chase in the game. It's like scouting," Wright said. Does anyone else miss the days when sports games were more about accessible fun and less about being virtually indistinguishable from their real life counterparts?

  • Ze Frank plays with his Wii

Yeah, we know, making jokes about fake Wii games and "playing with my wii" innuendo is, like, so 2006. But when Ze Frank does it, it all seems so fresh and new, mainly because he does it ... oh, what's the word ... well. In between the "sophomoric ... even freshman ... ish" jokes, Ze also gets into the differences between playing with "girly" button-filled controllers and the Wii controller, which "you grab ... and you instinctively know what to do with it." Whether or not you agree with his sentiment, it's hard not to laugh when Ze makes absolutely everything about playing games seem dirty. Hey, if it works for space news, it can sure as hell work for video games. [Via VH1 Game Break]

Video from internet gadabout (and host of the excellent The Show) Ze Frank's speech at the 2004 TED conference (Technology, Entertainment, Design) has been making the rounds and, despite our appreciation for performance readings of spam, it was his video game demos that we're interested in sharing with you.For starters, he throws some numbers at us (did you realize the industry makes over $100K/year?) before walking us through three games titled Atheist, Buddhist, and Christian. Think they look like fun, try em out yourselves! Check out the entire embedded video after the break, or jump directly to his segment on video games here:Watch - Ze Frank on video games at the 2004 TED conference
