• The Guild Counsel: SWTOR is stealing my (character) identity!

Guild leading is often as much about managing personalities as it is about managing the nuts and bolts of the game. In previous columns, we've looked at all sorts of issues that guild leaders have to solve, and at the root of almost all of them is some sort of personality clash. Show me a nice blend of personalities, and I'll show you a happy guild that will stick together for years. What makes guild leading so difficult, though, is that unlike real-life leaders, guild leaders need to manage two identities for every member. There's the real-life identity of the player, and then there's the identity of the in-game character, and they aren't always the same. If you talk to a guild that's met at a guild gathering or convention, one of the things you'll always hear is how a particular member is so different from his in-game character. In game, for example, he might be a rough-around-the-edges general, but in real life he's a quiet teddy bear. MMOs give us the opportunity to be someone completely different from who we are out of game, and even non-roleplayers will sometimes behave differently when they're playing. But Star Wars: The Old Republic has taken away some of our power to construct our own identities in game. In this edition of The Guild Counsel, Let's look at how that's happened and whether it will affect the way we game.

Video: Season 5 - Episode 8 - Social Traumas While perhaps not technically about World of Warcraft, web series The Guild certainly wears its influences on its sleeve, and if its fifth season is any indication, it's certainly become quite the phenomenon with the historically fickle geek crowd. This week's episode, "Social Traumas," is an event in and of itself, with cameos from a huge number of fan-favorite geek actors and personalities, from a pair of Dolls to a demigod. Check out the episode above, and see how many nerd points you get for recognizing the cameos (which we've conveniently listed for you after the break).

  • The Guild Season 4 finale

Video: Season 4 - Episode 12 - Guild Hall Season 4 of Felicia Day's The Guild comes to an end with the 12th episode in the season, "Guild Hall." Most of the episode takes place within the game world, showing off Vork's design for the Knights of Good's guild hall, the culmination of that whole Zaboo's mom debacle, and lots of teases for the next season. This season was pretty spot-on and I really enjoyed every episode. I think the entire crew has hit this great stride, especially after last season's awesome Vork-in-a-van episodes, which were highlights for me. Everything was top-notch, and The Guild is only getting better and better as the seasons progress. Good on you, Guildies -- and we're anxiously awaiting the next season!

The second season of Internet MMO comedy short The Guild is ready to debut in high definition tomorrow (according to Major Nelson Seasons 0 & 1 are available right now) on Xbox 360, MSN and Zune. Sponsored by Sprint, Reuters reports this is due to appear on the Independent Video channel, with 12 4-7 minute episodes plus a holiday special appearing first on Microsoft platforms, and later on the series website. Also appearing tomorrow is Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog starring the legen -- wait for it -- dary Neil Patrick Harris. Best of all? They're free, however with friends needing one more for that next Left 4 Dead run through and The Thing queued up on Netflix, our time might not be.[Via Evil Avatar]

  • WoW Moviewatch: The Guild Gag Reel

As gag reels go, I can't say this is the funniest one I've ever seen (and if you're at work, it'll have to wait anyway-- it's NSFW). But it is very interesting to see behind the scenes of the ever-more popular WoW-based web series The Guild. There are scenes collected here from the first three episodes, and it's cool to see the mostly unknown cast out of character and joking around in front of the camera. They call this vid "a little thank-you to our subscribers," and say that episode 4 is "in the can" and coming soon. So enjoy, Guild fans.

I've been waiting eagerly to see what happens to Codex now that that creepy little gnome has showed up on her doorstep. Luckily I didn't have long to wait for the second installment of The Guild. This masterpiece starring Felicia Day keeps getting better (and creepier) with each episode. Guys, I found Zaboo...yay!Previously on Moviewatch...
