Sony indefinitely delays ‘The Last of Us Part II’

Naughty Dog has just about finished work on The Last Of Us Part II. It's taking care of the last few bugs and then the long-awaited sequel should be all set. However, Sony has delayed the game for a second time. It's pushing back the release date indefinitely from May 29th due to the coronavirus outbreak.

'The Last of Us: Part II' may jump between two points in time

Naughty Dog's E3 trailer for The Last of Us: Part II gave us a good idea what combat as lead character Ellie would be like, but the story is still largely a mystery. But during a panel earlier this week, game director Neil Druckmann dropped a tantalizing hint about how the game might be structured. It sounds like it won't be the totally linear affair found in the first game. Instead, the narrative may move between two different times, much the way that Left Behind (a three-hour, Ellie-focused add-on to The Last of Us) jumped between two points in time.

In ‘The Last of Us Part II,’ Ellie is a lethal loner

"The Wolf" is a force to be reckoned with: She can make her own explosive arrowheads, use her enemies as bullet shields and fell attackers much taller and bigger than her. During the gameplay trailer for The Last of Us: Part II (TLOU2), Ellie is violent, destructive and unhesitant.

  • Sony’s E3 2018 show: Our verdict

Last month, Sony poured cold water on the idea that its E3 press conference would be a big, blockbuster show. Instead, Sony said that we could expect more intimate, deeper-dives on games like Death Stranding, Ghosts of Tsushima, The Last of Us: Part II and Spider-Man. Sony was aiming for something close to a Revival Meeting vibe, hosting its event in a church hall with ribbons of bulbs running along the ceiling and pews for the attendees.

First 'The Last of Us: Part II' gameplay shows off refined combat

It's been 18 months since Sony and Naughty Dog first revealed The Last of Us: Part II, but despite a few enigmatic (and disturbing) trailers, we haven't heard much about the overall plot or seen any gameplay. That's changing today, as the forthcoming game is making up a major part of Sony's E3 2018 press conference. However, before we got to the game details, composer Gustavo Santaolalla took the stage to perform a new rendition of the Last of Us theme -- in a strange, church-like area that's far different form the average E3 press conference room. Sony's Shawn Leyden explained that this year's event would take the audience on deep dives into each game, with special environments and experiences tailored to each. After Santaolalla's performance, the lights went down, and we heard more music and saw the game's first footage -- someone singing in the very same church environment the crowd was sitting in.

PlayStation's E3 2018 event heads back to theaters on June 11th

Sony is once again showing its PlayStation E3 event in movie theaters, although this year there's a slight twist. The tech giant has announced that its PlayStation E3 Experience will come to certain screens in the US, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina and Chile on June 11th at 9PM Eastern. Unlike in the past, though, you already have an idea of what to expect: Sony previously teased that you'd see Death Stranding, The Last of Us Part II, Ghost of Tsushima and Marvel's Spider-Man in addition to news from the usual round of third-party studios. You're attending more for the cinematic experience than to be bowled over by surprises, although we're hoping there are a few unexpected twists and turns.

Sony is trying a new format for its E3 press conference

Sony is doing something different for its E3 keynote address this year. Specifically, it'll focus on doing deep dives on a small handful first-party games, rather than unleashing a barrage of trailers. Chairman of Sony's Worldwide Studios Shawn Layden confirmed a "complete new report" for Death Stranding, in addition to more info on Ghosts of Tsushima, Spider-Man and The Last of Us: Part Two. On a new episode of the PlayStation Blogcast, Layden also said that there will be third-party games as well, in addition to indie titles.

'The Last of Us: Part II' doesn't shy away from violence and gore

The Last of Us: Part II is a violent game. At least, that's the message Naughty Dog and Sony broadcast this morning when they debuted a new cinematic trailer at Paris Games Week. In the video, a woman is dragged to a campsite where corpses hang from trees, their stomachs cut open and intestines spilling out. By firelight, the captors place a noose around the woman's neck and nearly slice open her own gut -- until one of her allies is caught nearby.

  • Ellie is all grown up in 'The Last of Us: Part II'

Sony closed out its PlayStation Experience keynote with the first trailer for The Last of Us: Part II, the sequel to Naughty Dog's breakout 2013 shooter. The stars of the original game, Joel and Ellie, return in Part II, older and apparently filled with a desire for vengeance. In the trailer, after strumming a guitar and singing for a while, Ellie tells Joel, "I'm gonna find, and I'm gonna kill, every last one of them." And it looks like she means it.
