EA has been asked to pull advertisements for the Nintendo Wii version of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 by UK's Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) for images the agency claim are "misleading" to consumers. The ad in question showcases Tiger Woods swinging a Wii Remote (WiiMote?) against game footage complaints to the ASA allege are from the Xbox 360 version of the game. EA has since admitted the ad does include Xbox 360 footage instead of visuals from the Nintendo Wii but claim the decision was made because the Wii footage wouldn't be of "broadcast quality." Unfortunately for EA that excuse didn't make it to the green. "Because viewers would not be able to achieve the graphical quality shown in the ad on a Wii console, we concluded that the ad was misleading," the ASA commented. Strike three, you're outta here EA! Wait, that wasn't a Golf term. Was it?[via Joystiq]

Tsk tsk, EA. It seems you've done a very naughty thing. Apparently, over in the UK, EA has been advertising Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 in a very shady manner. They've been using the Xbox 360 version of the game in the ads, claiming it's gameplay from the Wii version of the game. Luckily, the UK's Advertising Standards Authority caught them. What could ever make EA do such a thing? Apparently, the images from the Wii version of the game weren't "broadcast quality." Sure thing, EA. Sure thing.[Via Joystiq]

The UK's Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has told EA to stop broadcasting a misleading ad for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09. In the commercial, Woods is swinging a Wii controller, but a complaint to the agency accused the ad of using footage from the Xbox 360 version of the game. Which it did, as confirmed by EA. The publisher's excuse for switching the footage: the Wii images wouldn't be of "broadcast quality."EA's ad agency stated that, in the future, it would make sure that the images and format being promoted match.[Via Gi.biz]

For players who wrestle with the virtual greens, Electronic Arts has announced a way to better your game while on the go. The newly launched mobile version of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 includes a feature called Console Boost, which (as you might have guessed from the all-too-descriptive title) gives Xbox 360 and PS3 players a stat hike in EA's annual trip to the links.Explains EA Mobile exec Adam Sussman, Console Boost "enables players to improve the skill level of their console character" by storing their mobile triumphs to their online EA account. Depending on the skill level completed in the mobile version, players will see their home version's stats likewise improved, hopefully ensuring a little more time on the fairway and a little less time fishing balls out of water hazards.

  • Shipping This Week: Crashing edition

There are two really notable things about the games releasing this week. One, you may recall that Tales of Vesperia was the game that single-handedly caused the Xbox 360 to sell out completely in Japan. Somehow, we doubt the game will have quite the same impact in North America (regardless of its quality). Two, after over two frakking years, Castle Crashers is finally landing on Xbox Live Arcade. Our anticipation around here is palpable. Perhaps you've noticed. Also releasing this week is Tiger Woods 09. We're not sure exactly what's notable aboout that unless, of course, the Jesus shot makes a return.[Via Joystiq]

Today is Sunday, which not only means we're less than twenty-four hours away from manic Monday, but it also means it's time for some Xbox 360 deal hunting. Sadly though, the deals available this week lead a lot to be desired. At Best Buy, there are a few pre-order deals including a free Nuka Cola can opener with a Fallout 3 pre-order and a ringtone / poster kit with a Saints Row 2 pre-order, but that's about it. Really. Circuit City is giving away a free wireless controller with any Xbox 360 purchase and are also handing out $5 gift cards with the purchase of Tiger Woods 09. The usually video game friendly Target doesn't have a darn thing to offer us. Those are all the deals we could find which is sad really, so just move along ...

There are really only two ways of handling a glitch. Fix it in a patch or convince everyone who experienced it that it never happened in the first place. EA, as you can see in the above video, has provided the most impressive example of that second method we've ever seen. After seeing one user's "Jesus Shot" video from Tiger Woods 08, (you'll find it just after the break), wherein a glitched Tiger walks over a pond to make a shot, EA answered back with its own video that Levinator25's supposed bug was, in fact, a mind-blowing feature. Bravo, EA. Bravo.[Thanks, Conrad]

Hear that light, tapping noise echoing from various homes in your neighborhood? That's the sound of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 fans golf-clapping to the demo released for the game on the Xbox Live Marketplace. Clocking in at just over 1GB, the demo showcases some of the new additions of the latest entry of the popular simulation golf franchise from EA Sports -- and by popular we mean it's the only simulation golf game available anymore. On the fence regarding a potential Tiger Woods 09 purchase or just looking to improve your stroke? Check it out today!Note: We were only kidding, we know Tiger is a popular franchise regardless of its lack of competition! Also note that this is the only time we'd be able to use the phrase "improve your stroke" without getting into trouble, so we kinda had to say it.

So, we've got good news, and we've got potentially bad news. We're going to mix it up and give you the bad news first: There's a demo for SBK08 on Xbox Live right now, but if you live in Asia or North America, you can't play it. Maybe it's not that big a deal, but what if we told you that SBK stood ... for superbike? We thought regular bikes were cool, but these bikes ... wow, they're just so far beyond that. We feel bad for anyone (ourselves included) who's stuck with a last-gen non-super-bike. You've won this round, Europe. But, hey, dry those tears, rest of the world, because today you can also download a demo for Tiger Woods 09. Experience the thrill of Joystiq editor Ludwig Kietzmann's day-to-day life as you play three holes at the Gary Player Country Club in South Africa. Hey, just because Little Steven avoids it doesn't mean you can't play Sun City!(P.S. We're assuming that at least the Tiger Woods demo will show up on PSN today. We'll let you know when we see an update.)Source -- SBK08 DemoSource -- Tiger Woods 09 Demo
