  • Mists Darkmoon Card Trinkets, and how to get them

A new expansion brings with it a new set of Darkmoon Cards. The current batch are item level 476, unique-equipped, bind-on-equip, and created in a very similar fashion to previous Darkmoon Cards. The cards themselves, of which there are 32, are created by Inscription from Darkmoon Card of Mists, which is available from level 600 and requires Scroll of Wisdom. This has a daily cooldown, severely limiting the number of cards which can be made. [Corrected, thanks to commenters. Original post was written based on database relics] The cards are bind on equip just like before, so can be traded and sold as previously. The cards are created randomly, and therefore unless you're very lucky, some trading will be necessary. As previously, there are four decks, Tiger, Ox, Serpent and Crane. Once you have all eight cards, the Ace through the Eight, right-click them to combine into the Deck. These decks then allow you to start a quest, which asks that you hand in the deck at the Darkmoon Faire. All steps up to this point can be carried out at any time, but the quest hand-in can only be completed when the Darkmoon Faire is in town. Handing in the four decks awards four different cards, with the exception of the Tiger Deck, which awards two. The trinkets and decks are as follows: Tiger Deck: Relic of Xuen or Relic of Xuen. Ox Deck: Relic of Niuzao Serpent Deck: Relic of Yu'Lon Crane Deck: Relic of Chi Ji As previously, these cards are bind-on-equip, so can be sold. When completing the Tiger Deck quest, players can choose between the two relics trinkets. These trinkets are unique equipped, and players can't equip more than one Darkmoon Card trinket. Mists of Pandaria is here! The level cap has been raised to 90, many players have returned to Azeroth, and pet battles are taking the world by storm. Keep an eye out for all of the latest news, and check out our comprehensive guide to Mists of Pandaria for everything you'll ever need to know.

  • TUAW's Daily App: SimCity

I probably don't need to explain SimCity to you; it's one of the most classic PC games of all time, and Electronic Arts released it for the iPhone a while go. It's the same game you've played before; you can mark out zones in your city, draw out roads and buildings, and slowly build up your population as a mayor, keeping your people happy, supplied with utilities, and within reasonable distance of work and play. So, why are we spotlighting it today? Along with most of EA's iPhone titles, its price has dropped down to just 99 cents. So, if you haven't picked it up yet, now's the time to do so (and it'll give you something to play on your brand new iPhone this week). Other titles to check out at just a buck, if you haven't gotten them yet, include Need for Speed, Command and Conquer, FIFA 10, Madden 10, Tiger Woods PGA Tour, and the classic Dragon's Lair. Just think, buying them all will set you back $7, the same price as the full Rock Band title.

  • EA Sports Wii/DSi accessory bundles announced

Because your EA Sports games need that extra oomph, EA has signed a deal with Sakar International to produce a lineup of attachments for your Wiimote and -- wait, DSi? Sure enough, the press release mentions "realistic-looking EA Sports golf clubs, tennis rackets and baseball bats for the Wii and Nintendo DSi as well as fitness gear for use with EA Sports Active" as part of a deal EA announced last month. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 and 11 on Wii will get a series of golf club attachments for kids on up to adults -- extendable up to 24 or 36 inches depending on the set you acquire -- and Sekar will also offer baseball and racquet accessories for other Wii games like Grand Slam Tennis. As for the DSi, the press release mentions five-in-one carrying kits themed around football, baseball, basketball and soccer -- each kit will include a game case, skin, stylus, and clip-on earphones or headphones. Then there's the EA Sports Active stuff, which comes in two flavors: Starter Kit and Gym Kit. The first will retail for $19.99 and comes with a Wii Balance Board bag, yoga mat, fitness cord, armband and legbands, while the Gym Kit will set you back a bit more at $39.99 and includes a gym bag, yoga mat with a fitness cord and wrist and ankle weights. While we can't really comment on these proposed attachments without at least seeing them first, we just hope EA reads the internet every now and then. Some attachments are great, while others are just a painful memory you wish you could forget.

  • Moore reiterates EA Sports commitment to Tiger Woods

EA Sports president Peter Moore recently restated the publisher's commitment to golfer Tiger Woods in a blog post, despite the once pristine athlete's incredibly public fall from grace. Moore reaffirmed that EA's relationship with Woods has always been "rooted in golf" and that the company "didn't form a relationship with him so that he could act as an arm's length endorser." As for Tiger's penchant for prowling, the executive concluded, "Regardless of what's happening in his personal life, and regardless of his decision to take a personal leave from the sport, Tiger Woods is still one of the greatest athletes in history." EA told Joystiq in early December that it plans to stand by Woods. The sports superstar may be losing other endorsement deals, but as GI.biz notes, EA Sports put convicted rapist and ear connoisseur Mike Tyson on the cover of Bite Fight Night: Round 4, so what's a little philandering between friends and business buddies? • EA denies Forbes claim over Tiger Woods split

With the recent controversy golfer Tiger Woods has found himself embroiled in, Forbes National Editor Michael Ozanian believes that the biggest name in golf is done being a pitchman. Ozanian claims that companies like Electronic Arts, which publishes the Tiger Woods PGA Tour series, will drop Woods "regardless of what they are saying now." Well, we were actually curious to hear what EA is saying now, so we contacted the publisher. A spokesperson for the company informed Joystiq, "There is no change in our marketing strategy for the franchise. Our strong relationship with Tiger for more than a decade remains unchanged." Site Gamerinvestments.com believes there's "no way" EA is going to drop Woods. Its logic: "There is simply no other golfer that EA Sports can replace him with and there is no way that they are going to stop making one of their most successful games."

  • Tiger Woods 10 gets Banff Springs DLC

Electronic Arts has announced that new DLC is now available for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10. The DLC is comprised of a single course, Banff Springs. EA notes that this is the first time that the Canadian course has appeared in the Tiger Woods franchise. If you'd like to tread the fairway at Banff, you'll have to plunk down some cash though, 600 or $7.50 on Xbox 360 and PS3, respectively. We realize that golf if an expensive hobby, but $7.50 seems a bit pricey for a single course, especially given that most games offer at least three maps for $10. Then again, golf courses are a tad bigger than most FPS maps. What say you, golf aficionados? Is Banff worth $7.50?

  • UK chart get: Harry Potter and the EA Games of Popularity

EA has dominated the UK charts once again, as the publisher saw three of its titles grace the top five spots in the All Formats category last week. Chart-Track data shows that the one-two punch of a new Harry Potter movie in cinemas and a new game on store shelves was too potent a potion for UK customers to ignore, with Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince shooting to the top spot.Harry and his Gryffindor chums were joined by Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10, which dropped from the second spot all the way to third, and Fight Night Round 4, a previous top spotter that has plummeted to fifth place. Rounding out the remainder of the top five were Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, which rested comfortably in second, and Wii Fit, which has dropped down to fourth.

Tiger Woods Pro Tour 10 and Fight Night Round 4 dominated UK sales charts for the second week in a row (albeit in a different order), taking first and second place, respectively. In total, Electronic Arts software accounted for four of the top 10 titles for the week ending July 11, according to Chart Track.Top 10 chart mainstay Wii Fit fell to number six, while Ubisoft's Western-themed Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood climbed ahead to number five. Activision Blizzard also scored big with Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (#3), Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (#9) and Prototype (#10) in the platform-combined top 10 list. With Transformers sneaking into the third spot, we're content to find out that, for all the cred British people get for being classy, they still make as many terrible decisions as North Americans. Cool, innit?

Like trying to watch a foreign language film on a tiny TV, it seems that our buddies at Engadget can't figure out if they've got problems with the Wii MotionPlus technology, or just the way it's being used. The site recently did an exhaustive hands-on with Nintendo's new add-on, the fruits of which you can see here. The best implementation/demonstration for the super-sensitive tech seems to be manipulating an e-frisbee in 3D space, which is almost too precious and appropriate for our brains to comprehend.

We're not ones to judge, but when we go down to the country club (haha, just go with it), we try to avoid wearing our CEC Mining Hazard Suit. You see, someone in Tiger Woods 10 clearly likes hitting the links in the same outfit worn by Isaac Clarke in Dead Space. Actually, could it be Isaac? Hmmm.An added bonus: Wearing the suit will unlock the "No Known Survivors" achievement for 35 points. Now we can't help but wonder if Tiger Woods will show up as a skin in Dead Space 2. Or as a suit made of skin ... ewwww. Check out someone teeing off in the CEC Mining Hazard Suit after the break.[Via 360 Sync]

The demo features the Bethpage Black and Turnberry golf courses and also includes one playable event in the new Tournament Challenge Mode. Finally, and this is really just a guess on our part, the demo will probably feature Tiger Woods.

  • Analysts predict over ten million sales for MotionPlus

Both Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter and EEDAR analyst Jesse Divnich expect the Wii MotionPlus peripheral to achieve sales of around ten million units in the US and Europe. The two just disagree on how long it will take. Pachter believes that the sales will happen early on, driven by bundles of early MotionPlus compatible software: "I think around 20 percent of Wii owners in the US and Europe will have bought Wii Sports Resort, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 or EA Sports Grand Slam Tennis," Pachter told Edge, "so that's around eight million." He added, "I think another two million will buy MotionPlus with new consoles."Divnich thinks three million units will sell through this holiday season, but it will take an additional year to achieve the ten-million-plus level of sales. "For the Wii MotionPlus, we currently expect the install base to reach over 11 million units by the end of Nintendo's next fiscal year in March 2011, a 15 percent penetration."Both analysts think Red Steel 2 is a risk that could pay off for Ubisoft. "Red Steel 2 may come along at precisely the right time, around when people are ready for another [MotionPlus] game," Pachter said. "The risk is really more a function of competition, compounded by the risk that Ubisoft could make a bad game." Both analysts believe that Red Steel 2 will be bundled with a MotionPlus.

We took Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 through the paces recently -- Wii MotionPlus included -- and encountered a fair bit of confidence from product manager Randy Chase, who said, "You know ... I just realized that this is going to put those really expensive digital golf swing analyzers out of business." Actually it's not quite that accurate, but it's getting there. Perhaps one day you can look forward to suckering golf wannabees out of thousands of dollars by charging them for "lessons" from Tiger Woods himself.Randy took a few swings with Tiger Woods back in March, and we're happy to echo his sentiments. It's very rewarding to switch over to the MotionPlus and watch your golfer avatar follow along pretty darn precisely with your swing. It not only makes the game feel more intuitive, but (amazingly) coaxes you off the couch. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 will be hitting all major consoles and handhelds, but the Wii MotionPlus really makes it stand out on Nintendo's flagship game unit. It offers a greater degree of club control than we've ever seen in a game, though don't expect it to make you a better golfer ... unless you can somehow graft a Wiimote onto your club. EA just released some awesome news for people hoping to have something to do with their MotionPlus peripherals when the device comes out on June 8. The company announced that the release dates for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 and EA Sports Grand Slam Tennis are being bumped up a week, to match the release of the MotionPlus.Even better, the Tiger Woods/MotionPlus bundle is also coming out on June 8, so the peripheral will be available with a game from day one. Nice of EA to step up and do what, for some reason, Nintendidn't. Surprisingly, despite now being available alongside the MotionPlus, EA probably won't be able to boast the first game to support it -- or even the first tennis game. Sega hasn't announced an official date for Virtua Tennis 2009 beyond "June", but GameStop currently lists June 2.%Gallery-47656%

  • Peter Moore says EA Sports is 'under-performing' on the Wii

    04.30.2009

In the past, Peter Moore has hinted at the tenuous relationship between the company he helms (EA Sports) and Nintendo's three-DVD-wide home console (the Wii). Yesterday, the leader of the highly athletic development studio fully acknowledged EA Sports' lackluster sales performance on the Wii in an interview with Eurogamer, stating, "when I look at the attach rate on the Wii of our software to where I think we should be, we're under-performing still, we need to do much better."Moore is hoping to claim a few extra slices of that sweet Wii pie with the studio's upcoming MotionPlus-infused sports titles, Tiger Woods 10 and Grand Slam Tennis. Of course, we can't have a story about Mr. Moore without one of his trademarked Awesomely Ostentatious Quotes: "Those two titles couldn't come at a better time for us, nor for Nintendo quite frankly." Oh, yeah. That one's going up on the fridge.

EA just sent out a press release confirming the rumored EA Sports Grand Slam Tennis and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 bundles for Europe. Both games will ship with included MotionPlus accessories this summer. "This exclusive and limited-time offer is exciting news for sports fans who want to enhance their Wii experience for a great value with the new Wii MotionPlus right at launch with both Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 10 and EA SPORTS Grand Slam Tennis," Peter Moore said in the press release. The bundles will retail for £49.99.In addition, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 will include a MotionPlus in North America at launch -- over a month before Wii Sports Resort! GameStop has already posted a listing for the bundle (at $59.99) and a free overnight shipping offer (enter the coupon code EAGLE). No idea why Grand Slam Tennis isn't also going to have a bundle, but at least there's one more bundled game, so you can get a MotionPlus for your second controller.%Gallery-47656%
