Xboxygen posted new screenshots of Electronic Arts' upcoming skateboarding game Skate. Skate is EA's answer to Activision's massive Tony Hawk game franchise as they hope to dethrone the face of skateboarding (good luck). Looking at the screenshots the game appears to be coming along very nice on the graphical front. The pretty reflections, shadows, and textures look much better than Tony Hawk's Project 8. We'll just have to see if the gameplay will match that of Tony's, but we definitely see promise in the presentation of Skate. Anyone ready to ditch their Tony Hawk and pick up Skate, or is it way to early to commit?

You heard it, folks. A Tony Hawk's Project 8 demo will be available on Marketplace tomorrow, October 20th. The demo will give you access to many of the games new features, including the much lauded "Nail the Trick" -- think The Matrix meets skateboarding. Also accessible will be the "Filmer" mode, in which you follow a cameraman and complete whatever tricks he wants to see. As if that weren't enough, there will also be what Activision calls "Spot Challenges," which are random goals that can be completed in the game world. All in all, it sounds like a pretty meaty demo. It's also the only place you'll be playing Project 8 for quite a while. We've said it before and we'll say it again, you gotta love Xbox Live.

  • "NO SKATING ONLINE" for PS3's Tony Hawk

In another setback facing the PS3 launch, Activision and Neversoft confirmed to Joystiq last week that there will be no online gameplay in Tony Hawk's Project 8. While the Xbox 360 version will feature up to eight players online, as well as persistent leaderboards and possible future downloadable content, the PS3 is getting no joy.Possible reasons for this: Neversoft had gotten final hardware from Sony less than three weeks ago and they have yet to receive final software libraries. Hard to build a house when the lumber ain't there yet. With Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam having already been confirmed as not having online play on the Wii, the Xbox 360 version is your only option if you want to kickflip with your buddy in New Jersey while you sit comfortably in Topeka.[Thanks for all the reminders, readers]
