Welcome to Joystiq Weekly, a "too long; didn't read" of each week's biggest stories, reviews and original content. Each category's top story is introduced with a reactionary gif, because moving pictures aren't just for The Daily Prophet. Yes okay, BlizzCon 2014 was full of announcements. A new team-based shooter called Overwatch, a Hearthstone expansion, Warcraft movie details, the next StarCraft 2 expansion ... Blizzard fans have plenty to look forward to. Thanks to an unexpected announcement however, Tony Hawk fans also have something to look forward to (or dread, depending on cynicism) in the form of a 2015 console game. Sure, the Skate series was a cool take on realistic tricks, but we wouldn't mind getting back to the outlandish challenges, yellow-text specials and SKATE letters of the original killer skateboarding series. If you've never enjoyed injury-supplementing planks of wood with wheels, there's still plenty of good stuff from this week. News of Grand Theft Auto 5's first person mode, reviews for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and Lords of the Fallen, a feature exploring the development of the unfortunate PS3-exclusive Haze, and more is all waiting for you after the break!

Activision and Tony Hawk are developing a console game for 2015 that's poised to delight Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series fans, Hawk announced in a tweet today. There's also a mobile game incoming, he said. I'm currently working with Activision on a console game for 2015 (along with a new mobile game). I think fans of THPS series will be hyped. - Tony Hawk (@tonyhawk) November 7, 2014 Additionally, Hawk tweeted that the coming mobile game Shred Session "has been put on hold indefinitely." The previous console game to bear the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater moniker was 2012's Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD (pictured above), developed by Robomodo and published by Activision. Feel free to pop a kickflip in delight. [Image: Activision]

Welcome to Joystiq Weekly, a "too long; didn't read" of each week's biggest stories, reviews and original content. Each category's top story is introduced with a reactionary gif, because moving pictures aren't just for The Daily Prophet. This week's news of a new Tony Hawk game isn't exactly what we were hoping for, but it can't stop us from digging out our old cartridges and discs to revisit the series that made us mount real-life skateboards for the first time. Without the killer soundtracks and a focus on pulling off special moves that progressively got more insane with each entry, we might never have spent hours trying to learn how to ollie. Or earning fresh headaches from trying to drop into half pipes. Or building ramps out of scraps from the garage so we could grind our faces off on the pavement. Thankfully, a revitalization of childhood injury memories isn't the only thing the Joystiq Weekly has in store - news of a Titanfall bundle, reviews of Thief and Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare and a sociological exploration of Twitch Plays Pokemon are also available for your immediate consumption! Dive into this week's biggest moments in gaming right after the break. [Image: Robomodo]

  • Tony Hawk's new game is exclusively for mobiles

Tony Hawk may be returning to video games, but he isn't returning to consoles anytime soon. The skateboarding star revealed his new game is exclusively for mobile phones, after admitting last year he'd been "wanting to do a mobile game for a long time." "We're working on a mobile game now," Hawk told Bloomberg. "We're working on a game for mobile devices this year. We've never gone exclusively in that direction so I'm excited because, with the amount of time people are spending on their phones and their tablets playing games, we've never had our own game in that space, so I'm excited to provide one finally." Hawk told CNBC last year that, with gaming expanding beyond traditional devices, "you've got to learn to adapt what you know from the technology into these areas." According to CNBC, Hawk saw the best mobile model to be making the game free but to start charging when players wanted to progress to further levels. There's no confirmation of any pricing structure for the newly-announced game as yet. Hawk's new game, which sees the ex-pro skater reunite with Activision, is the first to bear the name since Tony Hawk Pro Skater HD (above) from 2012. Robomodo developed that game, as well as the ill-fated Ride and Shred, but despite some mischievous re-tweeting it's not known if the indie studio is on board this time around. [Image: Activision]

Welcome to Joystiq Weekly, a "too long; didn't read" of each week's biggest stories, reviews and original content. Each category's top story is introduced with a reactionary gif, because moving pictures aren't just for The Daily Prophet. Between the new Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Tony Hawk's involvement in a new game and talk of a Doom beta, this week feels like a list of lost events from the '90s. Not that we're complaining, of course - the days of platforming in mine carts, feeding arcade machines quarters and hogging family computers from siblings were pretty wonderful times. They were simpler, too - just 151 Pokemon to keep track of, with full games and expansions instead of publishers scattering in-game content to retailers and adding season passes to everything or-- Well, it didn't take us long to trip into the "back in my day" style of reminiscing. We'll excuse ourselves for a stint of warning kids passing by to stay off our lawns, but we've left you a recap of the biggest events from this week after the break. Er ... this week being in 2014, not the '90s.

Activision has confirmed the company is once again collaborating with pro skater Tony Hawk on a new video game. "Activision can confirm that they have something in the works with Tony Hawk, more info is coming soon," a statement provided to IGN reads. Hawk first revealed the collaboration during a segment on SiriusXM's Demolition Radio show (via IGN), stating, "We're working on a game, we are working on a game, it's pretty cool." No further information about the project was provided. The last game to bear the Hawk moniker, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD, was developed by Chicago studio Robomodo as a collection of fan-favorite levels from the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series. That same studio also produced the faux-skateboard driven Tony Hawk: Ride in 2009 and its direct follow-up, Tony Hawk: Shred, in 2010. [Image: Activision]

On December 4, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD will add three levels from Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 as premium DLC: Los Angeles, Airport and Canada. Along with these levels, the revert ability from THPS 3 will be included in the 400 MS Point ($4.99) DLC package. However, the revert was previously localized to those three DLC levels only, and now Activision says all Tony Hawk HD players will receive a free update adding revert to the original levels. So if you want the three additional levels, you can snag them on December 4 for half a sawbuck or you can take the free update and up your high scores on the original lineup pulled from the first two Tony Hawk games. • Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD success merits 'a fuller game,' Robomodo says

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD managed to move into 120,000 hard drives during its first week on Xbox Live Arcade. Robomodo head honcho Josh Tsui told Gamasutra that early success will eventually lead to a "fuller game.""By making it 'lower risk' we were allowed to take some chances, which benefits both developer and publisher," Tsui said. He also noted that "the prospect of a fuller game is definitely on the table" and that it's "just a matter of when and how."Of course, first thing's first: PC and PS3 ports of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD are still waiting in the wings, as is some DLC focused around Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3. But after that, Tsui seems to think Activision will be more open to publishing a new game.

We're of the firm opinion that your time is too precious, too valuable to be spent reading a full review for a game that was already reviewed many, many years ago. What's the point of applying a score to a game that's old enough to be enrolled in the sixth grade? That's why we invented Deja Review: A quick look at the new features and relative agelessness of remade, revived and re-released games. If you played the original Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, you probably remember exactly when you got your first million points on Warehouse. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD allows us all to relive that memory while simultaneously bringing the games that started it all to a new audience. Thanks to developer Robomodo's careful recreation of seven select levels from the first two Pro Skater games, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD evokes a strong sense of nostalgia. It plays just like you remember; that secret spot where you pushed your score (and your board) skyward is there, waiting for you to discover it all over again. %Gallery-160221%

Robomodo's Unreal Engine-powered remake Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD will drop in on Xbox Live and PSN this June, Tony Hawk himself has revealed. He took to Twitter to announce the launch window, as he is wont to do.Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD is a remake featuring select levels from the first two games, which originally debuted on the PSOne. Tony has said that, depending on the HD remake's reception, we could see other past levels added – Hawk even envisions Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD as a platform for completely new content.

While old-school skating fans are no doubt itching to pick up Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD, it turns out that the idea of an HD remake is actually several years old. Hawk pitched the idea years ago, the skater recently told IGN, although Activision originally turned the project down because "it wasn't the right time."Now, through the magic of digital distribution, Hawk wants to see Pro Skater HD become a platform unto itself. We knew that other popular levels from the series could be released as downloadable content for Pro Skater HD, but Hawk is hoping to see new content released as well, including levels, skaters and even new tricks. It's worth noting that Activision is apparently taking a "wait and see" approach to downloadable content for Pro Skater HD. When asked about the possibility of DLC earlier this year, a spokesperson told Joystiq, "Activision will see how THPS HD does and go from there."
