Samsung debuts U820 QWERTY slider at CTIA, no one notices
Not everything can be an Android smartphone, fellas... sometimes you just need an unobtrusive design, maybe some social networking connectivity, and a modest price point. That's what the Samsung U820 says to the world. Barely a blip on our radar when we came across the FCC filing at the beginning of the year, this QWERTY slider features a 3-inch WQVGA touchscreen, 3.2 megapixel still camera with video capture, headset jack, MicroSD card slot, browser, the Communities social networking widget, and for your UI (dis)satisfaction, TouchWiz 2.0. Available at the end of April 30 in the $80 - $100 range on Verizon.
Fujitsu Lifebook with AT&T BroadbandConnect appears, several people really excited
As if Fujitsu's U820 wasn't interesting enough already, news that it can now be customized and purchased with AT&T BroadbandConnect should be enough to convince you that it's... uh interesting. Fujitsu's site gives you two options for packing your U820 with integrated HSDPA -- a Vista Home Premium version for $1199, and one with Vista Business for $1499. It looks you'll be forced to go with the 120GB hard drive if you want the 3G, since neither the 60GB hard drive nor the 64GB SSD are available with the configuration. Fujitsu LifeBook U820 gets reviewed
At $1,000, Fujitsu's netbook-esque LifeBook U820 is nothing if not a tough sell, but NotebookReview.com seems to think that the category-defying device will appeal to at least a few folks out there, even if they are aware that they can get a similarly equipped netbook for less than half the price. As you might have guessed, they found the device's form factor to be its biggest selling point, with them going so far as to describe it as "the smallest and most feature packed mini tablet" they've reviewed. They were also especially impressed with the device's "incredible" battery life (over eight hours in "balanced" mode), and its overall build quality, which certainly seems to be a step above your average netbook or mini tablet. On the downside, it is still basically an average Atom-powered netbook on the inside, which is easy to accept at $300-$500, but a whole other matter when you hit four digits.

We're still scratching our noggins in a futile attempt to figure out the LifeBook U820's real purpose on this Earth, but for those who've got it all figured out, you'll likely be thrilled to know that this puppy is now on sale. $999 buys you a mini convertible tablet with an Intel Atom Z530 CPU, a 5.6-inch WXGA touchscreen, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, a 60GB 4,200RPM hard drive, built-in GPS / Garmin Mobile PC, Ethernet, a webcam / fingerprint sensor, Bluetooth / WiFi and a 4-cell battery. Fujitsu's U2010 goes for 11 hours strong with extended battery
Fujitsu's cute-as-a-button U2010 (or U820, for you USers) was shown off over in Japan at a company event, and while most of the specifications were already hammered out, one particular tidbit at AkihabaraNews took us by surprise. With seemingly every other netbook out there getting blasted for lackluster battery life, the U2010 will reportedly support an extended cell that offers up 11.1 hours of run time. We've no idea if that's a "maximum" number based on "optimal" usage, but no matter how you dice it, it sure beats the (also respectable) 5.3 hour rating given to the standard battery.[Via BoingBoing]

Sure, we're getting Fujitsu's U2010 convertible UMPC Stateside pretty soon as the LifeBook U820, but we're crazy jealous that our friends in Japan are getting this hot tokidoki version, labeled as the LOOX U / B50N. Same kit underneath, but we'd bet that exclusive limited-edition skin will command a premium -- now if we only had pricing info, we'd know whether or not to get our clandestine grey-market importers on the case. Fujitsu LifeBook U2010 gets official in five different colors
Fujitsu has been showing off its LifeBook U2010 netbook / convertible laptop for some time now, but it's just now getting completely official with it, and it's taken the opportunity to reveal all five colors we can expect to see the laptop available in. That includes the basic black option we've been seeing all along (now called Ocean Black), as well as Pink Gold, Cool Silver, Fuschia Red, and Luminous Blue. Otherwise, the laptop's specs look to be in line with what we've been expecting, including a 1.6GHz Atom processor, a 5.6-inch WXGA display, an optional 64GB SSD drive (or a standard 60GB hard drive), a promised 8 hours of battery life from the extended battery, and the usual built-in 1.3-megapixel webcam. Still no final word on a price though, or any indication of a release date for the US-centric U820 model, which the FCC has already kindly let out of the bag.[Via Pocketables]

If you've been squirming around like you've got ants in your pants wondering if Fujitsu's tiny Lifebook U2010 was going to make its way Stateside -- feel free to relax. Word on the street -- and from the FCC -- is that the diminutive and convertible laptop will come to our fair shores as the U820. The device actually gets a bump in the screen department, featuring a 1280 x 800 display as opposed to the previous specs we had detailing a 1024 x 600 touchscreen. PQI shows off JoyTone U820 digital audio player
Looks like ginormous SSDs aren't the only products PQI's been cranking out of late, as the firm's latest DAP was showing off its sparkle at Computex. The JoyTone U820 features a glossy black exterior, 1.5-inch 128 x 128 resolution LCD, ID3 tag support, MP3, WMA, and SMV playback, a photo viewer, digital voice recorder, and USB connectivity. Unsurprisingly, there was no word as to when the U820 would find its way from the show floor onto store shelves, but as you already know, more pictorial delight awaits you after the break.
