Move further 'Unto Dawn' with the latest Halo 4 live-action short
The latest Halo 4 short – sans Master Chief, but with a whole bunch of tough-looking dudes no less – focuses on the psychology of UNSC rookie troopers. Not just any UNSC troopers, but the ones we'll be getting up close and personal with when 343 Industries and Microsoft Studios finally drop the full live-action "Forward Unto Dawn" video prequel to Halo 4.And yes, the Chief will also be part of that. Quit worrying.
Master Chief called in to resolve Syria, reports BBC
During a news segment on the United Nations' involvement in the Syrian conflict, the BBC aired an image of the UNSC – the fictitious United Nations Space Command from Halo.The image, shown in the background of the clip above, even gets a special spotlight as the camera zooms in on the anchor as she discusses the very serious, very real issues plaguing Syria over the past year.The BBC has since acknowledged and apologized for airing the Halo logo, telling Eurogamer, "BBC News makes every effort to ensure the accuracy of all images broadcast, however very occasionally mistakes do happen. Unfortunately an incorrect logo was used during a segment on last week's News at One bulletin and we apologise to viewers for the mistake."The image was not broadcast in our later bulletins."Even if the BBC has stopped airing the USNC logo, the error has of course popped up on YouTube. The most obvious logic behind the mistake is that BBC editors searched Google Images for "United Nations Security Council symbol" and snagged the Halo UNSC logo that popped up in the results, but we like to think it was a subtle message to focus more efforts on quickly appeasing the situation in Syria – more efforts involving Master Chief.
Fan-made Halo UNSC frigates dock at Minecraft station
At this point in Minecraft's life, we expect every gigantic space ship from every sci-fi property has been recreated. Imagine our surprise then when we looked through our records and found no documented UNSC frigates from Halo. That changes now. Seen above is the work of Minecraft forum user Garified, who constructed not one but two UNSC frigates in the game -- one large-scale and one a bit smaller -- modeled after Halo: Reach's UNSC Savannah. We think you'll agree: kudos are most certainly in order.
TGS 2009: Wait to play Halo 3: ODST, get UNSC threads
During the last day of TGS 2009, Microsoft was handing out free (and stylish!) UNSC-branded t-shirts to gamers willing to wait in line to play (the already released) Halo 3: ODST. For their effort, gamers seemed to enjoy the reward of partaking in local multiplayer sessions of ODST's Firefight mode. Check out a closer look at the shirt after the break.
