Samsung is reportedly working on its third Galaxy Note smartphone in as many years, but there's been little in the way of official details. Thanks to some digging round the web, though, a few model numbers have come to light. Samsung's own user agent profiles mention two new Note family members, the SM-N900A and SM-N900T, both of which carry 1080p screens. Some extra sleuthing at an Indian importer has also revealed references to a root SM-N900 device as well as P, S, V and R4 variants. Unfortunately, there isn't much more to know -- while the naming schemes likely reflect different carriers and regions, there's no tangible clues as to where each model belongs. If some of these numbers resurface in the near future, however, we won't be surprised.

  • Samsung web profile shows GT-i8805 sporting Tizen and mid-tier specs

Samsung committed to launching Tizen devices almost as soon as 2013 began, but there has been little to show for its promise outside of a developer phone. To our relief, there are signs of sustained interest in the project: Techtastic has spotted a Samsung user agent profile for the Tizen-toting GT-i8805. The web code suggests that the company is playing it safe with its first wave of hardware for the OS, however. While the i8805 appears to support LTE, mentions of a 720p display and an older ARM Cortex-A9 chip probably won't have technofreaks regretting their Galaxy S 4 purchase. Even so, the sighting should give hope to those who've been waiting months on end for Bada's spiritual successor.

  • Galaxy S 4 Mini surfaces in Samsung web profile code

Talk of a Galaxy S 4 Mini started while many of us were still processing the impact of its full-size cousin, but there was little to go on at first beyond unverifiable imagery and top-level specs. Thankfully, Samsung itself just removed some of the doubt through a user agent profile on its own website. While the code only references a previously suspected GT-i9190 handle (the Galaxy S III Mini is the GT-i8190), a 960 x 540 screen and an ARM11-compatible processor, those details are enough to suggest the tiny Life Companion is more than just a rumor -- and, not surprisingly, less powerful than the GS 4. Dutch site TechTastic even claims to have spotted the Galaxy S 4 Mini by name when searching for the GT-i9190's profile, although Samsung may have already scrubbed any such evidence. When previous rumors had the Mini surfacing not long after its bigger counterpart, we imagine it won't be long before we know if the handset exists as more than just a string of text.

  • Samsung Galaxy S III for T-Mobile hits FCC, brings future-proofed HSPA+ for good measure

There's been hints of it coming as early as February, but we now have a smoking gun at the FCC: the Galaxy S III is coming to T-Mobile. A Samsung SGH-T999 has popped up at the agency sporting newly added 1,700MHz AWS support that's the telltale sign of a T-Mobile device, along with the T999 name itself (the T989 is the network's Galaxy S II). It also totes 850MHz and 1,900MHz WCDMA bands being used for HSPA+ data rather than just voice, a clue that the phone is ready for refarmed GSM spectrum. Just in case there was any remaining doubt, we've further spotted a related T999V entry at the Bluetooth SIG with a rather familiar-looking image as well as a Samsung-hosted T999 user agent profile on the web that matches what we know about the Android 4.0 hardware. We have yet to get a look at whether or not the T-Mobile version is any different on the outside, but with the FCC's help, there's not much left to know before the expected summer US launch.

  • LG C729 Android phone for T-Mobile clears the FCC, packs a low-res display

Oftentimes, when phones hit the FCC, they raise more questions than they answer. Case in point: the LG C729, a handset that just cleared the Commission, revealing little more than the fact that it will run on T-Mobile's 1700MHz spectrum. Other than the cellular / PCS, GSM / GPRS / EDGE, and AWS WCDMA / HSPA connectivity, we know it has Bluetooth and WLAN radios. And that's all you can squeeze out of the report, since LG asked the FCC to keep the test manual and any photos under wraps, as companies with their trade secrets are wont to do. But, as PocketNow reports, the user agent profile tells a fuller story, with nods to a some version of Android as the OS, and a low-resolution 320 x 480 display. So far, word on the street is that LG will launch two Android handsets on T-Mobile this fall, including the Maxx and the Maxx Q, which will have a QWERTY keyboard. So what say you, readers? Just what is this thing?

  • Epic 4G user agent string suggests Gingerbread is on the way?

Samsung's Epic 4G just recently got Froyo, but it might not be too long before the handset bites into another toothsome treat -- a user agent profile at Sprint's own website lists a newer software based on Android 2.3. We can't say definitively whether this ED12 build will actually make it to retail phones anytime soon, mind you -- our own Epic 4G is presently on EC05 right now -- but it seems very likely that Europeans won't be the only Galaxy S owners to snarf down gumdrop buttons this year.

  • Nokia C6-01 is a Symbian^3 touchscreen candybar with 8 megapixel camera?

The nerds over at Mobile Geek Inc did a nifty investigative piece revealing more details about Nokia's mid-level C6-01 candybar. After making an awkward early appearance on Nokia's Dutch online storefront, more pics along with the user agent profile have been located thus confirming its lack of QWERTY, 8 megapixel camera, and Symbian^3 OS. A nice alternative to the 5 megapixel C6-00 slider shackled to S60 5th. Look for the new C6 to get official with a very nice price either at, or around, Nokia World 2010 which kicks off September 14th in London. One more front-side pic after the break.

  • HTC 'Vision' finally bringing high-end QWERTY to Android?

For a company with as rich of a reputation for landscape QWERTY sliders as HTC has, you'd think they'd be tripping over themselves to release a truly high-end Android phone with a keyboard, but not so much -- the closest they've come so far would be the midrange myTouch 3G Slide, and that puppy ain't even out yet. We broke the news last night about three seemingly new names for upcoming HTC devices -- Vision, LED, and Glacier -- and Dutch site Tweakers.net is now reporting on a user agent profile for the Vision that lists the device featuring that mythical holy trinity: WVGA display, QWERTY, and Android. Furthermore, they've got the director of HTC Benelux on record saying that they're planning more Android phones with keyboards -- so that's a Good Thing to hear at a time when huge slates seem to be stealing the show in every segment of the market. With the Nexus One, Desire, Droid Incredible, and EVO 4G all alive and well, we think these guys would be well-served to play with other form factors for a minute or two, yeah?

  • HTC Magic's user agent profile says it has a QWERTY keyboard, possible myTouch Slide for T-Mobile?

We'd just heard the other day some hot rumors that HTC's aging Magic would see a new version on T-Mobile this Spring with a physical keyboard added into the mix, and now we've got some corroborating evidence: an official user agent profile for the Sapphire (HTC's original codename for the phone) that proudly boasts of its QWERTY capability. You might think that this doesn't mean much since even Android phones without physical keyboard still have access to QWERTY through software, but actually, the "prf:Keyboard" line in these bundles of XML typically reads "No" if there isn't an actual keyboard in tow. Ironically, the original myTouch just got reworked with a 3.5mm headphone jack, but who knows -- maybe T-Mobile's evil plan is to let the old one soldier on for another handful of months and offer a new model just above it with a whole bunch of extra keys?

  • Motorola 'Ruth' specs outed, likely company's least interesting Android phone yet

Don't look for it to replace your Droid -- or even your CLIQ -- but Motorola's got another Android phone coming up here that's likely targeting a decidedly different market. The so-called "Ruth" -- model number MB511 -- has been unearthed via Motorola's own user agent profile database, revealing a decidedly HTC Tattoo-like QVGA display, GSM / WCDMA radio of some sort, and Qualcomm MSM7200a processor. What's more, we're seeing a mention of Android 1.5 in the browser specs section of the profile -- so whatever this is, whatever GSM carriers around the world pick it up, let's hope there's already an Eclair-flavored update in the pipe.

  • Motorola announcing Android plans today, but what's coming?

Motorola's out in San Francisco today at GigaOM's Mobilize 09 event to finally dish the real story on its Android-flavored future -- and considering that T-Mobile's CTO Cole Brodman is co-keynoting with Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha, it's reasonable to think that T-Mobile will once again be leading the way for carrier adoption of the platform in the US (Verizon's rumored Sholes, on the other hand, might be a no-show). We'll know soon enough what's going down, but user agent profiles recently published on Moto's own site detail two Android-powered devices -- model numbers MB200 and MB300 -- that feature UMTS (and very likely HSPA in some form), HVGA displays, and in the case of the MB300, probably a 5 megapixel cam considering a mention of 2592 x 1944 resolution. The MB200's profile oddly mentions 640 x 480 in its place, and it really doesn't sit well with us to think that Moto would be working on a 3G HVGA Android phone with a measly VGA cam that reeks of 2004 technology -- but all will revealed soon enough. We're live on the scene for the keynote that starts at 1:25PM ET / 10:25AM PT, so keep an eye out for our coverage! [Via CellPassion] Read - MB200 profile Read - MB300 profile

  • Confirmed: Samsung's SGH-T939 Behold2 for T-Mobile runs Android

    by

First we'd heard that the InstinctQ for Sprint might be Android-based, but what other Google-rife gear does Sammy have up its sleeves? That SGH-T939 Behold2 spotted in the WiFi Alliance's documents turns out to be Android-equipped without question, seeing how its user agent profile -- found on Samsung's own site -- lists its browser as "Android Browser." Sure, we suppose they could get all cute on us and name their random, featureless dumbphone browser "Android Browser," but that trick would be mean beyond words -- and we're further encouraged by the fact that the screen size is listed as 480 x 320, exactly the resolution that the doctor ordered for Android action. There's no word on when this is coming, but it goes without saying this'll find its way to T-Mobile since that's where you get the original Behold; unfortunately, the old model isn't too ancient yet, so we wouldn't be surprised if we were in for a bit of a wait.[Via PhoneArena and Cell Phone Signal]
