Admit it -- as a kid, you got a little tired of the GI Joe team winning the battle in every cartoon episode. Wouldn't it have been nice if Cobra emerged victorious now and then? Thankfully for you, Amazon has just given you the freedom to rewrite your childhood memories: it has reached a deal with Hasbro to sell GI Joe fan fiction in Kindle Worlds. And if you didn't spend your youth watching animated soldiers, you'll be glad to hear Amazon has also scored licenses from Warner Bros. and Valiant Entertainment. The arrangements let you post stories set in Veronica Mars, the Pretty Little Liars spinoff Ravenswood and new Valiant comics like The Lizzy Gardner Files. Amazon's expansion still leaves just 20 Kindle Worlds to choose from, but it should please anyone who wants to give Cobra Commander his due. [Image credit: Pat Loika, Flickr]

  • iPhone AR "talking" comic book cover surprisingly cheesy

In case you haven't had your daily allotment of cheese yet today, feast your eyes on the video below. It showcases a talking comic book cover for issue #1 of Valiant Entertainment's X-O Manowar comic, using an iPhone and augmented reality to bring the character's mouth to life. BoingBoing brought the cover to our attention. You basically scan a QR code on the cover of the comic (finally, a use for QR codes), tap a few buttons, and a mouth appears on the iPhone's screen. Place the iPhone onto the marked outline on the comic's cover, and the mouth becomes animated in a bad Clutch Cargo way. The character has a vaguely Terminator-like voice, although he's allegedly the "last of the Visigoths" and we all know from the Capital One ads that they don't sound like that. Amiright? Anyway, enjoy the short video, and let us know if you think that this is a unique marketing gimmick or if we're going to see a lot more comic book animation in the future. [via Gizmodo]

One of our readers, who must be a HUGE Shadowman fan, recently sent an email to Valiant Entertainment, the folks who own the rights to the N64 installment of the game, asking if the game would grace the Virtual Console. Upon sending the email, he received a surprising response:"Thank you for your interest. Yes, we have been speaking with Nintendo regarding Shadowman for the Virtual Console. Although, they have a ton of games to review and select from, Shadowman is on their radar."So they've been speaking to Nintendo? Great, we guess, as the more game to grace the Virtual Console the better. We cannot comment on whether we're excited or not, never having played the game ourselves. How many of you have played the game and would like to see it on the Virtual Console?[Thanks Foetoid!]
