  • Telltale puts three of its iOS tales on sale for a buck

Just a few days after it launched the first episode of Tales of Monkey Island for iPad, Telltale Games has gone and slashed -- with a cutlass, presumably -- the prices on three (well, four if you're being really nitpicky) of its other iOS titles. Specifically, Puzzle Agent (both the iPhone and iPad versions) is now going for 99 cents, as are Sam & Max Episode 1: The Penal Zone and Wallace & Gromit: The Last Resort for iPad. The Grickle-inspired Puzzle Agent might not be everyone's bag but, for a buck, you might as well invite its gum-chewing protagonist, Nelson Tethers, along with Sam & Max & Wallace & Gromit to your (i)Pad.

Wallace and Gromit -- inventor extraordinaire and dog, respectively -- are making their way to the iPad. Telltale has announced that Wallace & Gromit: The Last Resort is now available for Apple's wonder slate. While certainly good news for Telltale fans, said fans may have noticed something a little odd, as The Last Resort is actually the second episode of the first season of Wallace & Gromit. Telltale makes no mention of other episodes in the future -- iPad users are still waiting on the rest of Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse, incidentally -- but if you've been waiting to play Wallace & Gromit on a more magical platform, The Last Resort can be snagged from iTunes for $4.99.

  • Sam & Max voted as next Telltale series for Macs

[GinnyN] With Guybrush Threepwood fans taken care of, Telltale's adventure game-lovin' enthusiasts have voted Sam & Max as the next title to get Mac-ified. The Telltale blog confirmed the choice yesterday, saying that the other two titles up for porting (Wallace & Gromit and Strong Bad) will be playable on OS X "within the course of this year." Alongside the announcement (which didn't include a release date), the site posted a handful of "propaganda" created by voters to sway others to their side. We've posted one of our faves above, but we suggest checking out the whole lot.

Well, there you go. After consistent rumors that the whole catalog would be coming over to the Mac, Telltale Games announced at Macworld last week that that's exactly what was going to happen. Starting with the Tales of Monkey Island series (based on the Lucasarts games, where many Telltale developers formerly hung their hats), the company will co-release Mac and PC versions, giving customers versions for both platforms at the same time. Telltale is hosting a vote on its website right now as to the next game set to be released, but as we learned directly from co-founders Dan Connors and Kevin Bruner, eventually the whole platform, including Monkey Island, Sam and Max, Wallace and Gromit, and Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People, is coming over. And it's probably not long until the iPhone and the iPad follow suit. Kevin Bruner spoke with us on the livestream during the show, and Dan Connors sat down for a longer interview about Telltale's past, the decision to join the Mac gaming community, and what both founders think of Apple's newest platforms and the Mac community at large. Read on to see the full text of the interview.

  • Telltale games headed to Mac, Tales of Monkey Island out now

Hey, remember that "totally unconfirmed" report that stated Telltale would be bringing its whole catalog to the Mac and, furthermore, would be showing off Mac versions of its games at Macworld? You can slide that over to "totally confirmed" now, as Telltale has officially announced that it is indeed bringing its titles to Mac OS. The first game to hit the platform will be Tales of Monkey Island, which is actually available for the Mac right now. Telltale is currently asking fans to decide which game it releases next: Strong Bad, Sam & Max or Wallace and Gromit. Perhaps the best part about it all: Telltale also announced that the Mac versions of its games will be free to anyone who already purchased the PC version. Presumably, that also means that those who buy the Mac version will have access to PC versions. Either way, it means a whole new audience for Telltale's games. The company will be at Macworld this week, showcasing Tales of Monkey Island. Speaking of which, curious Mac gamers out there can grab the demo for Tales of Monkey Island at the Telltale website (and we suggest you do).

  • Report: Telltale porting its games to Mac, hints at iPad

    01.28.2010

According to Mac|Life, Telltale will begin supporting the Mac platform starting on Febrary 8 with Tales of Monkey Island -- and, as what can only be described as a great idea, gamers will be able to download both the Mac and PC versions of Telltale's games for one price. In other words, you won't have to worry about which version you buy, because you'll be getting both. Tales of Monkey Island is to be the first title to receive Mac support, with Sam & Max, Wallace & Gromit and Strong Bad to follow (supposedly in that order, by the way). Both seasons of Sam & Max should arrive within "several weeks" of Tales of Monkey Island, with the others arriving in the following months, the site writes. The report also mentions that Telltale plans to convert its entire catalog -- with the exception of Bone and Texas Hold 'Em -- according to Mac|Life. Its Telltale source declined to confirm if ports are on their way to the iPhone or iPad as well, though he did reiterate Telltale's desire to expand to as many platforms as possible. When reached for comment by Joystiq, a Telltale representative called the report "totally unconfirmed," adding that potential iPhone or iPad support is "total speculation" at this point. According to the Mac|Life report, Telltale will be showing off its Mac titles at the Macworld Expo on February 11, so you can bet we'll be stopping by to find out.

  • Wallace & Gromit creators use Flipnote Studio to create Spirit Tracks animations

You likely know Aardman Animations as the creators of the hilarious cheese-loving man and surprisingly capable K-9 duo, Wallace & Gromit. To celebrate last month's release of The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks in Europe, Nintendo tapped the studio to create a trio of custom animations paying homage to the game in Nintendo's free animation app for the DSi, Flipnote Studio. Now we get to see their labor bear fruit and, oh my, these came out looking sharp, as the video above this text can attest. However, the real feather in this (Minish?) cap is the odd video past the break showing Link's game-long companion, Zelda. For us, the uneasy feeling we get witnessing Link's lack of concern seeing Zelda in poltergeist form is only exceeded by Zelda's apparent glee, despite being a creepy specter. That just weirds us out!

We're not ones to cast aspersions about your horrible proclivity for procrastination -- heck, we haven't filed income taxes since, like, 2002 -- but if you chose to wait before cashing in on last week's Wallace and Gromit's Grand Adventures sale, it nearly cost you very dearly. We say almost because Telltale decided to extend the offer past its initial Monday deadline, letting adventure game junkies continue to pick up the entire four-episode season of Wallace and Gromit for just $20. The developer hasn't given the sale a new expiration date, so please ... procrastinate responsibly.

  • Free Wallace & Gromit episode and more for 20th anniversary of series

    11.04.2009

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Wallace & Gromit series, Telltale Games is offering Episode III of its Wallace & Gromit's Grand Adventures series, Muzzled!, for free! If you've been curious about how polite bumbling and cheese lust translate into game mechanics, now's your chance to find out. This offer applies to the PC version. The company is also marking the auspicious occasion by discounting the full season of the PC version to $20 (from $35), releasing the whole set on Xbox Live Arcade, taking orders for a Collector's DVD, and participating in a charity drive with the Wallace & Gromit Children's Foundation and Penny Arcade (to which your full-season purchase will contribute). The discount and free game will only be available until November 8.

Here's hoping you really like Wallace & Gromit and, more specifically, Telltale's episodic Wallace & Gromit games, because that's all you're getting on Xbox Live Arcade this week. As promised, the final three episodes, The Last Resort, Muzzled! and The Bogey Man will all be dropping on XBLA this Wednesday, each priced at 800 ($10). That brings the total for all four games to $40, which isn't too bad, although PC owners should be aware that Telltale is offering the entire season -- which includes a collector's DVD -- for $34.95 as well. Still, if you've got a yen for some couch-bound, Achievement-filled Wallace & Gromit, it's a pretty good deal.

  • Remaining Wallace & Gromit episodes hit XBLA all at once on Nov. 4

The remainder of Telltale's Wallace & Gromit's Grand Adventures episodes will make it onto Xbox Live Arcade all in one go on November 4 which, coincidentally, is the 20th anniversary of the dynamic duo's first animated short, A Grand Day Out. The already-released Fright of the Bumblebees, will now be joined by The Last Resort (which was a no-show in September), Muzzled! and The Bogey Man, each going for 800 ($10). The mathletes out there have already figured this out, but that puts the entire season at $40 – a deal if it were a retail package. Also on November 4, Telltale Games' website will begin taking orders for the "full season DVD" on PC, which includes all four episodes, image galleries, a "making of" video and more. With three titles dropping on one day, I'm not sure we'd call this "episodic" in the traditional sense. %Gallery-39989%

  • Telltale discusses XBLA wait times, possibility of XBLA Monkey Island

    by
    Xav de Matos

    10.26.2009

In an interview with Shacknews, Telltale Games CEO Dan Connors said long wait times between episodic content releases on XBLA are "over." When asked why the XBLA follow-up to the first Wallace & Gromit episode has taken over five months, Connors said Microsoft's second-annual Summer of Arcade promotion had kept the second episode off the virtual store shelves, allowing Telltale to develop new episodes of the series to keep release dates between episodes close. "I think our goal, going forward, is to launch on as many platforms as we can simultaneously," Connors said. With two episodic franchises under its belt on Microsoft's downloadable service, Connors said he "would love" to see Tales of Monkey Island -- its best selling episodic franchise based on the classic adventure series -- on Microsoft's downloadable platform. "I know they had great success with Monkey Island: Special Edition. We think there's definitely an audience there and we definitely want to get the game to them." Thankfully we're able to hold our breath just as long as Guybrush Threepwood, so the wait for a possible release shouldn't be too painful.

  • Telltale hoping to push content to new consoles, handhelds & Macs

With more avenues now open between consumers and game creators than ever before, third-party companies like Telltale Games can sell their wares on every platform -- as long as their software runs on it. That's the tricky part, but Telltale CEO and co-founder Dan Connors has told Gamesindustry.biz that his team is already looking to take advantage of the "huge potential" out there."I definitely think there's huge potential there, and right now we're working on getting our content over to some more channels, over to new consoles and the Mac," Connors said. With any luck, PlayStation 3 will be caught in Telltale's wider net -- it's the only current home console that has yet to be visited by a talking dog, a hyper-kinetic rabbity thing ... or even a dog that doesn't talk but is still weirdly expressive.Telltale's ambitions go further still, added Connors. "And after that's done, we're going to be looking at handhelds. I think we have to consider the PSP Go for sure."
