March 17th marks the release of Volume 3 of the Warcraft: Legends manga series, and Tokyopop is offering a pretty slick deal to build some hype around it. As of March 6th, Tokyopop has started putting the entire series thus far online to read for free, one chapter per day This will last through the 17th when the last chapter of Volume 2 is posted. They will not be putting new chapters up on the weekend, so despite the fact that we were a bit slow to notice this campaign of theirs (sorry!), you haven't missed anything yet. The first chapter is still the only chapter currently available, and another will be going up sometime tomorrow. If you're not familiar with this series, Warcraft: Legends is a series that brings multiple stories from many different authors and artists. It's not one solid story arc like The Sunwell Trilogy (for example), but a number of different stories about the denizens of Azeroth. Each chapter in a volume is a different story, though some of the stories span multiple volumes. Some of them are epic tales that tie into the more famous Azerothian figures (Lich King/Scourge, Richard Knaak's characters), and some of them are just about random Azerothian adventurers getting their adventurin' on. If you don't like one of the stories, odds are that you'll like one of the others.

Experience Points: It's time to dig up a little scratch. Dark Legacy Comics: The Oracle. Check out the latest Flintlocke vs. the Horde. GU Comics: Salted Yeti Cheese. My poor keyboard can't take much more. Monkey Punchers: Hopeless. NoObz: Ninja. The newcomer to the list is a web comic that is just starting up, called NPC, or Non-Player Character, by Mary Varn. MTV's Multiplayer blog landed an exclusive interview with comic book legend Walt Simonson about the upcoming Warcraft comic shipping next month. Included in the interview is the first five pages of the comic. We already knew the plot was about an amnesiac human enslaved by an orc shaman to compete in an Arena tournament. What we learn in this interview is some of the other major characters. They include a blood elf, a night elf druid and a dwarven warrior. All of these characters are also available as action figures. In fact, we here at Wow Insider just finished up a contest to give away the Thargas Anvilmar action figure in a Brewfest contest.Simonson promises a mix of the familiar and the surprising. While deeply immersing himself in the lore of Azeroth, he also found new stories to tell. Blizzard themselves have approval, so we know the lore will be spot on.You can read the entire interview and see all five sneak peak pages here. Or you can wait til November for the comic to hit the shelves.

This comic comes to us courtesy of Iridani (if you cannot get to the official site, you may see the entire comic here), and addresses an issue that has always concerned me. (In fact, it weighs heavily on my mind whenever my Tauren druid attempts to travel by wyvern or bat.) And the art style is unique and suited to the topic at hand. And if you've got your own ideas for a great World of Warcraft comic, this comic contest will continue until the end of the year, so get out your pens, pencils, markers, mice, or whatever method of creative expression you desire, and get working on your own submission.

Two more honorable mentions for Blizzard's comic contest have arrived for your viewing pleasure. Both have some really cool artwork (though the styles are completely different) and are both amusing in their own unique ways. First, there's this comic by Thorner of Succession talks about the Blood Elf paladins we'll see in the expansion. Second, there's this comic by Bludlemon of Doom Kittie which discusses some of Blizzard's more... interesting... artistic choices in the game. And if you've got your own ideas for a great World of Warcraft comic, this comic contest will continue until the end of the year, so get out your pens, pencils, markers, mice, or whatever method of creative expression you desire, and get working on your own submission.

I've just noticed that Blizzard's comic contest has announced a new honorable mention as well as August's contest winner. The honorable mention comes curtesy of Sabettan, and explains one of the game's great mysteries. August's winner comes to us from Keydar, and heavily exploits the fact that you cannot help but laugh at a flying Gnome. (Well, okay, I probably would have laughed at a paniced, flying Night Elf, too.)Got your own comic ideas? Put them in a digital format and submit them! The comic contest will be running until the end of the year, so there's still plenty of time to submit your own work for consideration.

The latest honorable mention (by Trudylor of VR Comic) addresses an aspect of player life that's always confused me - and presents a scene I seem to be involved in every time I create a new character. But I'll let you go take a look for yourself rather than spoil the punchline. And if you feel you have the talent to compete, the comic contest runs all year, and there's still time to submit your own work for consideration!
