The curious case of Ferarro
We, along with many of you, have been monitoring the curious case surrounding one of the most prominent Paladin bloggers, Ferarro. We originally did a 15 Minutes of Fame with Ferarro on May 26th. The article was about her life as a blogger, a paladin, and a game tester for Blizzard.After the article was written, a few things happened.First, Jagoex posted a story on Ferarro's use of pictures from the website TechDarling. Ferarro was claiming she was the person pictured, when in fact she wasn't. Sarah Townsend, the author of TechDarling, has stated she doesn't know who Ferarro is.Secondly, Ferraro's blog, Paladin Schmaladin, suddenly switched over to privacy mode blocking anyone from reading it who didn't have an invitation directly from Ferraro. Her Twitter account had the message "Stalkers are cool," and was then locked until it was deleted completely a day later. Her WoW character disappeared via a likely server transfer, and her contributions at RetPaladin.com were removed completely. Update: After this article was posted, Ferarro has once again made her blog, and thus her statement, private. However you can view a google cache of the page.This began raising many eyebrows and brought on a lot of speculation. All of which ended today when she posted claiming herself as multiple persons, which after investigation is now brought into question as well.
Six ways playing WoW can save you money
Summer's here, gas prices are up, and the economy is suffering both in-game and in real life. Ultimately, it's a "dogs and cats sleeping together" kind of situation for your cash flow. Jagoex over at Warlock Therapy has your wallet covered with "10 Ways Gamers Can Save Money." He's talking about all gamers, and has quite a lot to say for the console gamers, but his tips pretty much apply to everyone. Of course, there are a few things you can do specifically as a WoW player to save your bank account some stress over this bleeding hot summer.
PTR Warlocks gone wild
Friday afternoon when the PTR came up with the latest 2.3.2 patch, premade Warlocks had a little something extra in their stocking from Greatfather Winter. According to Jagoex at Warlock Therapy, it seems that the Warlocks' Seed of Corruption AE/DoT spell had been superbuffed to be: 2-3x, more powerful, instacast, require no mana and have a range of 60,000 yards. And if that wasn't enough, it could be cast even if the Warlock was dead. As you can imagine, hilarity ensued. As did a quick shutdown of the PTR Friday night.When the PTRs came back up later in the evening, the spell was removed and all premade Warlocks had their talents and spell lists wiped. So not only do new Warlocks have to drop 350g to repopulate their empty spellbooks, they have to run all the quest lines to reacquire their pets. Needless to say, there aren't many premade Warlocks on the PTRs this week.Still, it would have been fun to have seen the PvP matches before this mistake was caught.EDIT: YouTube vid after the jump!
Season 3 Arena equipment change stops ratings abuse
Today's maintenance is over, but the Season 3 Arena gear drama has only just begun, or ended depending on your point of view. Late last night, Tyren posted that when the servers came back up there is a new change to purchasing S3 Arena equipment. Before the maintenance, a certain Personal Rating was needed to buy the S3 gear, but now the same gear requires the purchaser's Team Rating to be in the same range.According to Jagoex at Warlock Therapy, this was done to stop a practice of artificially inflating your Personal Rating. Our own Zach Yonzon explained this smurfing concept. Players would form teams with their main and alts, winning with their mains and losing with their alts, thus ensuring a slow and steady Personal Rating gain. Now that the equivalent Team Rating is required, those people working the system have to play the Arenas the way Blizzard intended. Tyren also mentioned that though the new purchasing requirements are in effect as of today, they won't be displayed by the in-game vendors yet, but in an "upcoming patch." So though you won't see it listed in-game, the Team Rating is now required.EDIT: Clarified last sentence.
