Microsoft is also replacing its gun emoji with a water pistol (update: Facebook too)
After Google retired its handgun emoji and replaced it with a friendlier citrus-colored water pistol, Microsoft and Facebook remained the only platforms that still use realistic firearm glyphs. Now, Microsoft has announced that it's also in the "process of evolving [its] emojis to reflect [its] values and the feedback [it has] received." The tech giant has previewed its new gun emoji on Twitter, and as you can see above, it's mostly green in color like Apple's, Samsung's and Twitter's versions.
Squirt water gun robot pesters raccoons, takes orders from Android (video)
It's not uncommon to see Mr. Android and Sir Arduino team up in the world of homegrown robotics, but Squirt has managed to hop out of the me-too crowd with a downright charming control scheme (and even more charming looks). Put simply, this water gun robot was designed to "water plants and chase away raccoons," but from a broader perspective, the creator was looking to demonstrate how robotics could be used in small irrigation and well systems. Better still, this is far more than just a robot that's controlled remotely via smartphone; if you switch it into 'guard mode,' it'll search and destroy -- pelting anything "that moves" with a blast of water. And yeah, it can also be controlled via SMS, so even the cats can't celebrate too quickly once the owner heads out for work. Russians working up non-lethal water jet guns
Yeah, using Avurt's IM-5 launcher and Taser International's C2 stun gun sure seem like more enjoyable ways to injure-but-not-kill the baddies, but there's a certain novelty attached to the vision of an uber-powerful Super Soaker. Apparently, a team of Russians are toying with the idea of crafting a non-lethal weapon based around "electro-hydrodynamical effects." In layman's terms, what we're looking at is a device that relies on water jets to bring down enemies whilst minimizing long-term damage, and while we're not up to speed on all the mathematics that prove this valid, it sounds pretty plausible.
