Way of the Samurai 3's North American release was handled in an unorthodox manner, with Agetec publishing on PS3 and UFO Interactive publishing on Xbox 360. That may not be an issue with the newly-announced fourth entry in Acquire's free-roaming samurai action series, because it's been revealed as a PS3 exclusive. Of course, the Xbox 360 port followed the PS3 version in Japan by four months, so Xbox players may still see the way. According to Siliconera, the exclusivity was announced in a Famitsu article, which also offered some details about gameplay. You'll be able to choose your samurai's age, and then, through actions, choose to align them with one of three feuding groups. You'll also have more available actions within event scenes. Of course, during the gameplay scenes you'll always have the "slash" action.

The graphics may be a bit undercooked and the series' last entry may have been released in the States over five years ago, but we certainly were happy to hear that Way of the Samurai 3 will be arriving on October 13th in the US. Agetec and UFO Interactive -- in charge of publishing the PS3 and 360 iterations, respectively -- officially announced the game's impending October arrival yesterday, as well as news of an iPhone iteration of the game currently available for free.Sure, the iPhone version of WotS3 isn't much more than a side-scrolling brawler, but hey, it's free! Hopefully that can sate your samurai murdering urges for another month. Way of the Samurai 3 ($0.00): [Via Destructoid]

Originally released on PlayStation 2 back in May of 2004, Way of the Samurai 2 hit American shores by way of Japanese megapublisher Capcom. After bringing the first in the series to Japanese PSPs last year, the game's developer, Spike, recently announced in Famitsu that it'll be porting the sequel to the handheld. Unfortunately, while the PSP is region-free, we doubt it'll come with an English language choice for those of you interested in living out your dreams of roaming the Japanese countryside, fighting injustice at every turn. And though we asked Capcom for comment on an American release, considering the first one never arrived, we're not expecting much. Siliconera says the game releases in Japan on September 3 for around $40 (plus airfare).[Via Siliconera]

Another PlayStation exclusive has made the jump to the Xbox 360! Don't get too excited it's Way of the Samurai. After selling just over 80,000 units in Japan on the PlayStation 3 in November, publisher Spike has seen fit to try its hand at an Xbox 360 release. Way of the Samurai 3 (Samurai Dou 3) is slated to release on the Xbox 360 in Japan on February 26, 2009. Developer Acquire and publisher Spike promise the Xbox version will include new elements and offer some kind of downloadable content.[via Kotaku]

Remember Tenchu? It was a ninja stealth-action game that the PlayStation birthed. It was fun and had a couple of sequels -- offspring, if we want to continue the analogy. Well, that franchise has gone to the Wii and Acquire seemed to leave the PlayStation behind. Not so! Way of the Samurai 3 is making its way to the PS3 to be published by Spike in Japan this year, according to Famitsu.Visuals get a minor tweak (the second game in the series is pictured), but gameplay is what's really changed. Characters are getting much better AI, for starters. The storyline will be influenced by your actions; in certain events or cutscenes you will have the option to draw your sword or remain calm and unflappable. Sounds cool, but then again, we haven't heard if Capcom will pick up the third one for release outside of Japan since they brought over the second.

Way of the Samurai was originally released on PS2 back in 2002. Now, eight years later, it's getting revamped on the PSP. Set in 19th century Japan, the player takes control of a ronin that takes part in a Choose Your Own Adventure-style story, where every decision can radically alter the outcome of the story. This port of the PS2 original will be enhanced with new Ad-Hoc multiplayer features, and will also include characters from the upcoming PS3 Way of the Samurai 3. Undoubtedly, more will be revealed about this game as time passes.[Via PSPHyper]
