As far as western RPGs go, spiders and skeletons are pretty standard, run of the mill fare. JRPGs are usually a bit more creative, however, so it stands to reason that White Knight Chronicles 2's creepy-crawlies look a bit more horrendous and surreal.

Last year's White Knight Chronicles, developed by Level-5 and published by SCEA, was a "surprisingly mediocre" RPG with some interesting skill-up mechanics. That's probably why Sony passed on publishing the sequel in America this time around, but D3 Publisher has picked up the reins, and will be putting out White Knight Chronicles 2 (which will also contain the first game's International Edition on the very same disc) on September 13. Fortunately for series fans, improvements have been made. While the last game's battle system was occasionally slow and tedious, the sequel's attacks have been sped up a little bit -- not only do individual abilities charge and execute faster, but there are more ranged options and "charge" attacks, designed to get players in and out of battle quickly. That's not to say that the game necessarily plays significantly differently from the first title -- it really doesn't. But it is smoother, and the addition of some major customization features for the game's mech-like Incorruptus armor means that those who found something fun in the first game will probably be back for another round.%Gallery-131267%

D3 Publisher has yet to share a specific North American launch date for White Knight Chronicles 2, keeping it in a nebulous "summer" window for now, but it did share a new trailer for Level-5's magical-Gundam-esque RPG. We've never heard a theme song that sounded more like Phantasy Star Universe's "Save This World." Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing is a very personal decision.%Gallery-126307%

Sony has announced the European release dates for both the PS3 White Knight Chronicles 2 (which includes the original) and the PSP spinoff, White Knight Chronicles: Origins. Both games are coming out on the same day, ensuring fans have an uncomfortably large amount of role-playing content dumped on them at once! Adventurers in Australia and New Zealand will get to step into their giant magical suits of armor on June 9, with the UK and Ireland following one day later. The release date for the other PAL territories is June 8. American publisher D3 has only offered a "summer" release window for WKC2 in North America, and nobody has announced plans to localize the PSP game here. D3 did, however, send out a new Chronicles 2 trailer, which you can see after the break.%Gallery-124451%

A member of the Sony PR team recently noted on Twitter that the White Knight Chronicles series has shipped a million units globally. Siliconera points out that the figure covers White Knight Chronicles, White Knight Chronicles EX Edition, White Knight Chronicles: International Edition (US/EU), White Knight Chronicles for PSP and White Knight Chronicles 2. White Knight Chronicles 2 was recently announced for North America, and both it and the PSP game were announced for Europe. The franchise may not be doing Pokemon numbers, but it's not fading into the night either.

Sony announced last month that it was publishing Level-5's White Knight Chronicles 2 in Europe. The PS3 role-playing sequel is being released in North America as well, but by a somewhat lower-profile publisher: D3. The Namco Bandai subsidiary will release White Knight Chronicles 2 in North America this summer, containing both the new game and a "remastered" version of the first White Knight Chronicles. Siliconera notes that, while the Japanese version forced you to start from the very beginning if you didn't already have a clear save file (really!), the Western version allows you to start at WKC2.%Gallery-120644%

  • New White Knight Chronicles games coming to Europe on PSP and PS3

If you've been dying for more White Knight Chronicles for some reason, SCEE has got your back, simultaneously announcing European releases for both the PS3's White Knight Chronicles 2 and the PSP's White Knight Chronicles Episode Portable: Dogma Wars -- the last one being released in Europe under the much more sensible name White Knight Chronicles: Origins. American role-players eager to take control of an enormous, animate suit of armor in the desert should take heart -- though no announcement has been made as of yet about North America, it seems unlikely that Sony would localize these games without maximizing the potential for sales (which means a wide release). Besides, both PSP and PS3 games are region-free.

While the first White Knight Chronicles only made its English debut a few months ago, Japan is already preparing for its sequel. It's been a long time since Sony's released media of the upcoming PS3 RPG, but with its July release encroaching, it appears the marketing machine is being oiled up. This new trailer focuses largely on the story and the cinematics for Level-5's sequel, and it highlights characters -- new and old -- for this second adventure. Even if you can't understand a word they're saying, don't fret -- there's still a lot to appreciate. Free-fall mecha transformations can be understood in any language, right? [Via Andriasang]

  • Time to start waiting for White Knight Chronicles 2

Ha! You guys are still waiting for White Knight Chronicles? That's old news, folks. It's time to get hyped about its sequel. Unofficially titled "White Knight Chronicles: Awakening of Light and Darkness" (according to Andriasang), the sequel takes place immediately after the events of the first game. Leonard and his allies return to a world in chaos, with the City of Greed, the Kingdom of Barandel, and the Magic Republic of Foria all in trouble. You'll create another avatar to join Leonard on his quest, and this time you'll be able to transform (a power unavailable in the first game). In addition to the requisite new areas, monsters, equipment and skills, White Knight Chronicles 2 will also feature a brand new female knight, and the ability to have six characters in your party.SCE didn't reveal when the second White Knight game would hit Japan, but we do know this: English-speaking fans shouldn't expect to it see any time soon.%Gallery-75212%
