Last week we brought you details of the wiDock, a new iPod accessory from Silex Technology that answers the call of many an iPod owner: it brings wireless syncing of an iTunes library for both Mac and PC, and it contains A/V outputs to play nicely with your stereo and TV. Plugging your iPod into your entertainment center - and leaving it there - is finally looking to be a possibility. This week, we had a chance to interview Keith Sugawara, VP of Network Division for Silex Technology on some of the finer points of this highly anticipated accessory. Read on for some details on what's shaping up to be quite the cable-cutting dock, just in time for the 2006 holidays:TUAW: Considering that you're first to market with a long-requested iPod accessory, the wiDock seems to be quite a first-time splash for Silex Technology. How long have you been working on it? Keith: We have been working on wiDock for 6 months now. It utilizes the same technology that is found in our other device server products. We have leverage our core technology and have adapted it to fit the iPod market. Can you give us an overview of the wiDock's feature set?In addition to the big wireless syncing feature everyone's hearing about, here's a summary of everything else the wiDock can do: Charge your iPod battery Control your iPod using the Apple remote Connects to 802.11b/g wireless networks Wireless security includes WEP, WPA and WPA2 Connects to 10/100 networks 3.5mm audio output S-Video output

Rumors of a wireless, syncing iPod have existed almost as long as the iPod itself, but next week Silex Technology is poised to introduce the next best thing: the wiDock. This wireless iPod dock will fulfill the much-requested feature of wirelessly syncing media with a Mac or Windows PC, all while remaining connected with audio and video output to your entertainment center and charging the iPod's battery for the ultimate in do-it-all connectivity. The wiDock uses 802.11b/g to work its wireless magic, and to top things off, it plays well with the Apple Remote. We don't have a word on price yet, but the wiDock should be arriving in retail stores soon in time for the holidays.

You know how we can't stop whining about the inexplicable lack of wireless sync on the Zune? Well, Silex Technology just filled that void for the iPod crowd with their new wiDock, so it looks like the Zune kids are just going to look that much sillier when November 14th rolls around. Of course, a WiFi dock isn't quite as exciting as the promise of free-roaming wireless sync, but we'll take what we can get. Along with synchronization, the dock lets you charge your iPod, control the unit with the Apple remote, and pipe video and audio from your computer through the dock to your home entertainment system. The wiDock features 3.5-millimeter and S-Video plugs, along with a 3.5-millimeter to RCA audio cable and some SVL software for Windows and Mac to manage your media streams. The unit is 802.11b/g compatible, which should be plenty for SD streams, and you can also hook up to a regular 10/100Base-T wired network if that's more your style. No word on price, but we should be seeing this thing hit retail shelves next week.
