WiFi Xoom sheds $100, could stand to lose a few more Benjamins
Oh Xoom, you're but a few months old -- still only a babe -- and Motorola already has you on a diet. Sure, maybe it was a mistake to jump right into the deep end where big boys play, but you had to try right? Well, now that you've shed a $100 in weight, treading water alongside the rest of the WiFi tablets should be a little bit easier and, with 32GB of storage, you're more well-endowed than your $499 brethren. Still, it might be too little too late with the Galaxy Tab 10.1 muscling in on your territory and "iPad" quickly becoming a generic word for slates. Maybe if you dropped another $100 you'd have better luck -- and talk to your 3G-packing sibling, he's looking a little plump around the price tag too, if you ask us.
Motorola's WiFi Xoom gains access to Google Movies, just in time for the weekend
Hard to say why Google chose to roll its Movies app out first to 3G-packed tablets sporting Android 3.1 (a smaller testbed, perhaps?), but it looks as if it won't matter for much longer. We've received a number of tips this evening suggesting that Google Movies can now be downloaded from the Android Market by WiFi-only Xoom tablets, though some are seeing a litany of server errors when trying to actually use the service. That said, we didn't see any issues here at Engadget HQ, so it's possible that a few kinks are still being worked out on select servers. Give it a whirl and let us know how it turns out in comments below, and if you're a proud owner of a Galaxy Tab 10.1... well, we guess you're also the proud owner of a trait called "patience." Motorola Xoom gets Q2 European launch, WiFi-only and silver models now extra official
Motorola just went official with its WiFi-only Xoom headed to Europe along side its 3G and WiFi cousin in the second quarter of 2011. Besides that little detail, it's still the original 10.1-inch Honeycomb tablet built upon a dual-core 1GHz processor and 1280 x 800 pixel resolution display. Oh, and look at what we spotted here in Barcelona. Yup, a Xoom decked out in silver just for your viewing pleasure in the gallery below. %Gallery-116526%
Motorola Xoom WiFi-only version confirmed by Motorola Latin American exec
It's not that we expected the Motorola Xoom to forever be tethered to a carrier, but it sounds like we won't be waiting nearly as long as we did for Samsung's WiFi-only Galaxy Tab. Latin America GM Maurizio Angelone has told Infobae that a WiFi-only version does indeed exist and will first arrive in April -- one month before the 3G version will hit the market. The article doesn't specify if those months are specifically for Argentina or if they apply elsewhere as well, but it does sound like it'll be available sooner rather than later.
