JBL's On Air Wireless AirPlay speaker dock gets official, unavailable to purchase
When we first peeked this AirPlay-enabled speaker dock, we were admittedly excited to see how things would turn out after it made rounds through the FCC. JBL just tossed up the splash page for the On Air Wireless speaker and we've gotta say -- it looks to be a promising means of streaming your jams. The system connects wirelessly to your AirPlay-enabled Mac and iOS device on 4.2 or later and packs a screen that'll display the track info of the song you're rocking out to. What's more, the rounded grill sports a dual alarm clock, FM radio, and a USB port for future firmware updates. As you might have surmised by now, the dock is not yet available for purchase and there's no word on price. iHome teases first AirPlay-compatible portable speaker dock
No surprise that iHome is first out of the gate with a speaker dock that's compatible with Apple's newly-open AirPlay music streaming system, but unfortunately the teaser page is maddeningly light on details -- all we know is that it'll have a rechargeable battery and be available for the holidays. We're actually pretty stoked for AirPlay gear -- the idea of setting up a quick mix-and-match whole-home audio system that can stream lossless audio straight from iTunes seems awfully hard to resist -- so we're eager to hear more about this thing, as well as the other third-party AirPlay devices like receivers and stereos that have been promised. iHome iH21 wireless speaker system
iHome's already been busy this morning and now we can add the iH21 to their product catalog. The kit is said to transmit iPod music anywhere in the house to that "water-resistant" speaker. Get it? You can leave the iPod docked-up, far(ish) away from your filthy azz while streaming music to the speaker in the hot mustiness of nausea you call bathroom. Now, we're not sure what technology they're packing (WiFi, Bluetooth, PowerLine, etc) but we've got a sneakin' suspicion these are Bluetooth-equipped. Hell with EDR, A2DP and AVRCP profiles, that 32 foot transmission range (unobstructed) should be just about right with the remote. But we'll wait for these to be unveiled at CES before getting too riled up.
