  • Recruit-a-Friend benefits will apply to goblins and worgen

Yet another frabjous day for those of you who are planning to get your goblin or worgen to level 85 as fast as a bullet train with a rocket strapped to the back and a wormhole generator up front. "That's very fast," you might be saying. Well, so will your goblin or worgen, once he gets hold of all that sweet, sweet Recruit-A-Friend candy. Calloo and callay both, man. Lylirra - Will RAF work with worgen/goblins? New goblin and worgen characters will indeed be eligible for Recruit-A-Friend benefits including increased experience gain and grantable levels. As we've no current plans to modify the Recruit-A-Friend program at this time or increase the level range for which the benefits apply, goblin and worgen characters (as with all other characters) will only be able to receive the in-game bonuses up to level 60. source This excites me because I'm trying to lure back a few old friends for Cataclysm, and I'm pretty sure some RAF action could smooth that process along. Lylirra points out that this is all contingent on said goblins or worgen qualifying for the process, that there's no plan to advance the benefits past level 60, and that there will be no realm-first goblin or worgen (or indeed any race) to 85 achievements any longer. So level your worgen friends with alacrity, as fast as Running Wild after a sugar rush. World of Warcraft: Cataclysm will destroy Azeroth as we know it; nothing will be the same! In WoW Insider's Guide to Cataclysm, you can find out everything you need to know about WoW's third expansion (available Dec. 7, 2010), from brand new races to revamped quests and zones. • Race changes to worgen and goblins will be available on launch night

Short and sweet here, folks: Blizzard has announced that race changes to goblins and worgen will be available immediately upon Cataclysm launch. That's 12:01 a.m. PST Dec. 7. Additionally, there will no longer be any achievements for being the first of your race to hit level 85; the achievements are now class-only. Great news for people who want to switch from their terrible male night elf druid into a dashing (literally) male worgen druid, or basically anyone who's tired of playing a troll of either gender.

Welcome back to The Queue, our daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Mathew McCurley will be your host today. Hello, WoW Insider community. I'm sure you've heard of me -- I'm Mathew, one of the co-hosts of the WoW Insider Show, probably the best WoW podcast ever*. Our show is pretty great! However, we are desperately lacking one very crucial component: a theme song. We need a theme song. So, community, I beg and beseech you, help us come up with a theme song for our awesome podcast. Suggest something, record something, give us ideas, anything. We want to hear your input! I have personally added my selection to the top of The Queue, as I believe punk/heavy metal versions of Ke$ha songs will more than likely bring us the listenership we deserve. * Source: My mother. Everyone on the planet asked: How can we contribute ideas for the WoW Insider Show theme song? Great question, everyone. • Know Your Lore: The origin of goblin and worgen death knights

    11.07.2010

The World of Warcraft is an expansive universe. You're playing the game, you're fighting the bosses, you know the how -- but do you know the why? Each week, Matthew Rossi and Anne Stickney make sure you Know Your Lore by covering the history of the story behind World of Warcraft. Most of Cataclysm seems solid from a story standpoint, but a few plot holes continue to pop up here and there that cause people to wonder exactly how certain elements and creatures fit into lore. One question that seems to come up more often than anything else is the origin of goblin and worgen death knights. After all, these guys didn't even exist during Wrath of the Lich King -- the Greymane Wall isn't coming down until Cataclysm hits, and the Bilgewater Cartel goblins are still on Kezan, right? Well, not quite. In order to understand where these guys come from -- and they do fit in lore, Blizzard managed to integrate them quite nicely -- we have to take a look at one of the continual banes of my existence: timelines. The timeline for World of Warcraft was pretty straightforward during vanilla and The Burning Crusade. However, with the introduction of the death knight class in Wrath, players were introduced to a much heavier use of phased content, including a phased version of the death knight starting zone that introduced the reason why these servants of Arthas suddenly turned on him and formed their own independent alliances with either the Alliance or the Horde. WARNING: The following post contains spoilers for the upcoming Cataclysm expansion. If you wish to remain spoiler-free, do not continue.

  • Worgen druid flight form video from Wowhead

Well, what do you know! We figured that worgen and troll druids would just get recolors of existing druid flight forms, but it looks like we were wrong. The latest Cataclysm beta patch added a brand new Swift Flight Form model for worgen druids, so it's safe to assume that trolls will have one soon as well. I'm liking the Gilnean flag on the back of the form, as well as the serrated beak and big feathery mane. Wonder what kinds of touches the troll form will get? Guess we'll have to wait and see! And hey, maybe this means we'll see new moonkin forms too. A dog can dream.

  • Female worgen now available on the beta

Female worgen are now available as of the beta build (13221) that just hit tonight. I haven't checked yet to see whether you can just make a new female worgen, but I was lucky to get a character redesign option on a male worgen I've played previously for a Shifting Perspectives column. Many of the animations and emotes were glimpsed in May on untextured models, but some are new. Running Wild currently appears to be a bit bugged (that's the extra limb or two you'll see). Their Two Forms animation also differs from the male worgen version. Above, you'll see a video of the Two Forms and Running Wild animations. Past the cut you'll find a much longer video of all the model's current animated emotes, casting and channeling animations.

The female worgen dance appears to have finally been finished and put into the latest beta build. She is going to be doing Lady Gaga's Poker Face. Wowhead has datamined the dance out of the latest patch files and has a few animated .gifs up on its site showing the dance moves. You can also see it in the video above. For those of you keeping score at home, the female worgen model has been delayed, put in, pulled out and generally not finished for most of the beta. It appears Blizzard is starting to get things ready for Cataclysm's ship date. Now, if only it would fix the really strange way her jaws sit. The latest build of the Cataclysm beta has finally added the animation for the worgen racial ability Running Wild, the mount replacement skill that lets them drop to all fours and run at increased speed. You can see it in the video above. Note that beta servers are still down, so we can't get a good video of it in the wild quite yet. So far, I'm impressed -- can you imagine 20 or 30 of these guys running at you in a battleground? World of Warcraft: Cataclysm will destroy Azeroth as we know it; nothing will be the same! • BlizzCon 2010: New Cataclysm worgen cinematic

    10.23.2010

As hinted during the Starcraft 2 cinematic panel yesterday, a new Cataclysm cinematic just debuted at the Cinematics: Cataclysm panel. As any beta worgen player could tell you, the "transition cinematic" that really kicks the story into high gear has been missing, and now we know where and what it is. As a quick gloss on what you'll see without spoiling anything too heavy, you'll see your character's transition from human to worgen, with some quiet speculation on whether your humanity's salvageable or not. We'll post it as soon as we can find/get a copy on YouTube, but suffice it to say -- it rocks. I'm amazed at the quality the cinematics team can get out of the in-game models these days. EDIT: A copy just went up and I've posted it past the cut. The quality's not that great, but I'll post a better copy as soon as one appears. EDIT: High-quality copy now available past the cut. BlizzCon 2010 is upon us! WoW Insider has all the latest news and information. We're bringing you liveblogging of the WoW panels, interviews with WoW celebrities and attendees and of course, lots of pictures of people in costumes. It's all here at WoW Insider!

Every Thursday, The Overachiever shows you how to work toward those sweet achievement points. This week, we discuss the achievements most likely to drive you crazy in Cataclysm. "Wait a minute," you say, in your continuing quest to point out that I am one card shy of a flush. "We've already covered feats of strength." True. But we covered the ones that are becoming feats, most likely in patch 4.0.3. Are you still waiting for the Zulian Tiger to drop? Of course you are. I can't do anything to help you with that right now, so I figured I'd add to your misery by covering all the maddening stuff you'll find in the game later.

  • Cataclysm Beta: Worgen emotes and back flip video

    by

    09.27.2010

Worgen have recently gotten a little bit of an upgrade in the Cataclysm beta. All of their voice emotes now have appropriate sounds to go along with them, and some of their emotes have new animations. Also, like the night elves, worgen now do a flip randomly while jumping. This is, however, a back flip -- and it looks pretty cool. The video above contains a complete catalog of all the available emotes and audio and shows off the new worgen back flip. You also get a chance to see the male worgen dance in action if you've missed it before -- and it is all done with a spiffy top hat to add that little touch of class. Female worgen have yet to be fully implemented in the beta, so we will just have to wait to see if they get any special emotes or animations to go along with them. Be sure to have your speakers turned up a bit, the sound came out a little soft. World of Warcraft: Cataclysm will destroy Azeroth as we know it; nothing will be the same! Welcome back to The Queue, WoW Insider's daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Mike Sacco will be your host today. What, Mat thinks he can just post cat pictures in The Queue and not expect retribution? Everyone knows that the only cuter than cats is small cats, or "kittens," in the vernacular. And I have four small cats right now. You can see them above, possibly forming Voltron, or possibly playing Tetris with their bodies. Sicadastra asked: Simple question: Do the passenger flying mounts require that the passenger have the appropriate flying skill as well? I assume not, just curious. Nope, just like someone without normal riding skill can hop on a Nether-Rocket or a Traveler's Tundra Mammoth.

While I don't yet seem able to load one into the game for whatever reason, beta build 12984 has indeed allowed us to at least see the new female worgen models. And we have 'em! A lot of them, in fact. I tried to get every new skin color, hair style, ear configuration and face I could arrange for your viewing pleasure. Not being perfect, I probably missed a few, but it's still a fairly comprehensive photo set, all told. %Gallery-102683%

  • Cataclysm Beta: Worgen are their own mounts? [Update: Confirmed!]

    by
    Gregg Reece
    Gregg Reece
    09.18.2010

Update: Zarhym has confirmed Running Wild as the worgen "mount" in Cataclysm. There have been a lot of people anxiously awaiting the arrival of worgen mounts on the beta. Goblins have had their mounts for a little while now, and most people are still curious what the worgen mounts will even look like. With some of the information mined out of the most recent beta build, it looks like a worgen mount will end up being the worgen themselves. A new racial ability called Running Wild has been added for worgen, with a 1.5-second cast time that adds the "mounted" aura to the player. The description says, "Drop to all fours to run as fast as a wild animal." However, worgen already have their own version of Sprint called Darkflight, which gives them a temporary speed boost, but this new racial implies mounted speeds. If this is true, then it will mean different things for different groups. For worgen druids, you never have a reason to buy a mount of any type now. For those Alliance players out there, this might mean a lack of worgen racial mounts, which will probably be compensated elsewhere to keep the number of mounts equal between Horde and Alliance. For tauren players, yes, someone else appears to be getting Plainsrunning before you. World of Warcraft: Cataclysm will destroy Azeroth as we know it; nothing will be the same! • Cataclysm Beta: Worgen race change issues and you

    by
    Matthew Rossi
    Matthew Rossi
    09.15.2010

One of the more interesting aspects of the most recent beta build was the implementation of random character service options for purposes of testing. It's interesting in an abstract way because it shows that Blizzard is thinking ahead about the volume of attempts to use these services when Cataclysm launches and we get tons of new race and class combinations as well as two whole new races. Granted, we won't be able to shift to goblin right away, but eventually. You know you're thinking about it. I was not immune to the siren song of this option and its possibilities, and soon I had converted one of my level 80 warriors to a worgen. However, there was a slight catch: my new worgen had no racial abilities, meaning he couldn't transform at all. So rather than race-changing into an intimidating wolf man, I'd transformed into someone with a vague English accent and a tendency to talk about sniffing himself. As you can understand, I was mildly devastated, but resolved to soldier on. And then our own Gregg Reece descended as if a being from Olympus, surrounded by shafts of light and winged cherubs, and bestowed upon me the answer: "Go drown yourself in a sewer."

Choose the adventures of the WoW.com staff as we level our characters in <It came from the Blog> on Zangarmarsh (US-PvE-H). Note: Above is the video of the live stream that occurred Wednesday night. It is pretty much one big Cataclysm beta spoiler video. You have been warned. Well, Robinka the dwarf shamanka turned out to be a complete yawn. I take full responsibility for not being able to fake enthusiasm for a quest area that is more concerned about food collection than lore. Peenk the gnome priestess was nothing but fun, however. This week I will be polling for next Wednesday's stream. More details on that after the break. Adventurers who play when they can Fox Van Allen as Foxlight, the level 25 blood elf paladin Lisa Poisso as Prupher, the level 11 tauren druid Michael Sacco as Shockbroker, the goblin shaman Christian Belt, as Selfloathius, the level 16 blood elf warlock Matthew Rossi as Andrenorton, the level 17 troll mage Michael Gray as Grayfields, the level 17 tauren hunter Gregg Reece as Sandwichdoc, the level 16 troll shaman If you want to see more of our adventurers, please write them a letter in the comments and I will make sure the letters get to them. Today's edition of the Queue inspired me to show off the video of Lord Darius Crowley cleaving his way through a massive pack of worgen again.
