  • WoW Moviewatch: Walking in the Air

Today's music video machinima comes from Sharm and WoPairs -- Sharm did the singing and WoPairs set it to machinima of some of Warlords of Draenor's gorgeous scenery (with a cameo from Pepe). The song itself is a cover of "Walking in the Air" from the children's movie The Snowman, but it honestly works perfectly in a WoW setting (yes, even the mention of a sea monster is in the original). The scenery in Warlords, combined with the new high-rez models, seem like ideal fodder for machinima-makers, and it's great to see them taking advantage of the world's new settings -- here's to more machinima in the new year! • WoW Moviewatch: Top 5 Quest Lines

    by

    01.05.2015

The question of the best quest lines in World of Warcraft is a contentious one, as we all have our favorite (and least favorite) in-game moments, which makes creating a definitive list tricky. However, that's no reason not to give it a go and so Doronsmovies has rounded up his top 5 quest lines in a new video. While these aren't the most lore-heavy or, necessarily, most essential quests, they're all fun (or at least interesting) moments in World of Warcraft history. Even if you disagree with this particular list, it begs the question as to what your top 5 quest list would be. Would they contain any of the quests from Doron's list or would they be completely unique? Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! • WoW Moviewatch: Come Little Children

    01.04.2015

Come Little Children isn't really telling a story or a joke like your more traditional machinima works -- it's one of the music video variety. Featuring vocals by KatetheGreat, the video is little more than a montage of various bits of scenery around Draenor, along with a few animated sequences of a human woman singing. The video definitely isn't one of the usual technically adept efforts I've seen from Youtuber Khayllys, but Draenor's scenery is a beautiful backdrop for the eerie little song. The sequences with the human woman are the most interesting, simply for the use of the new model. It is really, really weird to see a human WoW model with this kind of expressiveness, and even weirder to see said model wiggle its fingers. And I don't think I'd realized until watching this video exactly how large the hands are on human models -- I suppose they'd have to be, to wield the large-scale weapons Azeroth is famous for. If you like the video, be sure to pay a visit to Khayllys' Youtube channel for more. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! • WoW Moviewatch: Ebesleezer Groodge

    01.03.2015

Wowcrendor is still on a roll with his 10 Days of Winter Veil celebration, and his latest offering is a Warcraft take of the holiday classic A Christmas Carol. Naturally, the lead is played by a goblin -- did you really expect anything else? I was delighted to see the return of Billy the orc, even if his fate is somewhat ... dubious in this particular tale. I was also delighted to see Groodge's outfit, because my forsaken priest is wearing the exact same thing, although Benediction has been turned into Anathema. The colors just go together, you know? With four offerings left, I'm wondering what we'll see him come up with next. It's A Wonderful Life, maybe? For more from Wowcrendor, be sure to check out his Youtube channel and subscribe. • WoW Moviewatch: The Grind Returns, Episode 1: Face Time

    12.30.2014

You could easily be forgiven for not remembering The Grind from machinima-maker Oblivious Films: The series premiered way back in 2009 and has been quiet since 2010. While that's a long time to be gone, The Grind is looking to make a comeback with a new video, which hopefully has an "episode 1" moniker, which implies we'll also see episodes 2, 3, and so on. So just what stymies our heroes after so long gone? Mostly being confused by the model changes that have happened while they've been away. Check out their latest adventure and, while you're at it, we highly recommend going through the old episodes too -- they're like a WoW time capsule, and some of the jokes are even funnier with the added dimension of "Did we really used to go through all of this to play?" • WoW Moviewatch: How the Warlords Stole Christmas

    12.29.2014

If you're not already completely bah-humbuging the holiday season, you'll want to Warcraft-style machinima take on How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Ian Beckman. Writing rhymes that make sense can be a real challenge -- and having to match those rhymes to a well-known original must be even more difficult. But How the Warlords Stole Christmas pulls the feat off beautifully: Every hero on Azeroth liked the feast of Winter Veil a lot But the Warlords who lived through the portal on Draenor did not! The Warlords hated Winter Veil! The whole Winter Veil creation! So many heroes would get new gear from the expansion. It could be, perhaps, that their XP was too low It could be then that their talent specs blow But I think that the most likely reason of all May have been that their DPS was two sizes too small. For the rest, we recommend checking out the video itself. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! • WoW Moviewatch: Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies style trailer

    by

    12.28.2014

Spoiler warning: This machinima contains footage from loads of Warlords of Draenor cinematics. This isn't what I would call a traditional machinima, it's more of a clip reel of Blizzard's best cinematic moments from Warlords of Draenor -- but man is it ever put together effectively. Youtuber J103Baronski spliced together Warlords of Draenor - Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies style trailer with the intent of doing a Warlords of Draenor trailer in the style of the trailer for the last Hobbit film, using the soundtrack from the Hobbit trailer and pairing it with Blizzard cinematics. It doesn't sound like much, when you put it that way, but the end result is a finished trailer that had me pretty floored with just how effectively the different video and voice clips were pulled together. I could honestly picture this on the television as a commercial for the expansion -- give it a watch, you won't be disappointed. Interested in the wide world of machinima? • WoW Moviewatch: The Eve of Winter Veil

    by

    12.27.2014

So just what is the true meaning of Winter Veil? We're not entirely sure, but we are pretty sure that the two questionable heroes in this video by Mooclucking haven't figured it out, either. Using the holiday season to rob the affluent homes of Stormwind City by sneaking down chimneys (how do they fit?), the duo's crime spree seems to be quite successful (having netted a Ragnaros action figure that Blizzard clearly needs to merchandise themselves). Of course, since it is the holiday season, the two are struck by a rather explosive crisis of conscious which leads to a Grinch-style change of heart. How long this crisis will last is anyone's guess, but judging by our heroes, it might not be long... so let's enjoy the holiday spirit while it lasts. Happy Winter Veil, everyone! • WoW Moviewatch: Frozey the Snowman

Wowcrendor is definitely having a great Winter Veil with his 10 Days of Winter Veil countdown and a new machinima every day. We're half-way through the countdown now with Frozey the Snowman, an appropriately Azerothian take on on the Frosty the Snowman story. So just how do you make Frosty the Snowman into a uniquely Warcraft creation? Well, I'd hate to give away the ending, but maybe bringing a random snowman to life just isn't the best thing you could do with a magical hat. Maybe. Interested in the wide world of machinima? • WoW Moviewatch: WarCraft: Armies of Azeroth

    by

    12.24.2014

Perhaps the biggest downside to the success of World of Warcraft is that we haven't seen a Warcraft RTS since Warcraft III in 2002 -- or 2003, if you'd prefer to count from the release of The Frozen Throne expansion. Either way, that's a long time to go without any classic RTS Warcraft goodness. The Armies of Azeroth team is trying to fix this problem with a StarCraft II mod that recreates Warcraft III on the StarCraft II engine. From the trailer above, we've got to say that the results look awesome. Sure, we've played Warcraft III plenty of times, but, while there's no release date for this mod, we're eager to check it out all over again with the tech updates the past decade has made possible. • WoW Moviewatch: Cataclysm in Reverse

    by
    Elizabeth Harper
    Elizabeth Harper
    12.23.2014

Sure, the Cataclysm seems like a bad thing. Dragons, destruction, more dragons, more destruction... who wants that? (Or wants to clean up afterwards?) But if you tell the story of Cataclysm in reverse... suddenly you have the tale of the helpful (but mis-named) dragon Deathwing helping put out wildfires and rebuild a ruined Azeroth. Now that's the kind of happy tale we can really get behind -- and machinima-makers Slightly Impressive have stepped in to tell this important story of Azerothian history. (Or Azerothian un-history, as the case may be.) So if you want a happy story from Azeroth, this is one of the few. Just ignore the fact that it's fictional... or more fictional than the rest of the world. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! • WoW Moviewatch: Pointless Top 10 Winterveil Things

    12.21.2014

Wowcrendor is on a roll with the 10 days of Winter Veil celebration he's got going on on his Youtube channel. The latest submission is one of my favorite things -- a pointless top 10 list! Yes, the feature has made a short return with a list of Pointless Top 10 Winterveil Things that you'll see scattered around the world. It didn't take long for the video to completely win me over. Number 8 on the list pretty much sent this particular pointless top 10 to the top of my favorites. I think my favorite part of the film however was the moment in which Wowcrendor was suddenly struck with the idea for a new video while creating this one. There's just something infectious about gleeful excitement (and the video idea was a really good one that I hope we see!). As always, if you like what you're seeing, be sure to check out Wowcrendor's Youtube channel for more holiday hijinks and Warcraft machinima. Interested in the wide world of machinima? • WoW Moviewatch: Kilrogg Shoots His Eye Out?!?

    by

    12.20.2014

Happy Winter Veil! In the latest Winter Veil video from Wowcrendor, we meet young Kilrogg, who's just been given a sweet air-rifle as a Winter Veil present. Between that and the video's title, you can imagine how the plot plays out from there... so just how did Kilrogg lose that eye? The answer involves a cameo from Greatfather Winter because it's the holidays so of course it does. If you're looking for more holiday cheer, Crendor is doing a series of Winter Veil videos, so check out day 1 and day 2 of his 10 Days of Winter Veil countdown if you've missed them. • WoW Moviewatch: Villain Holiday Party

    by

    12.19.2014

Think your holiday party is awkward? At least you're not a World of Warcraft villain, because their get-togethers never seem to go well. The real question, of course, is whose terrible idea was it for them to have a holiday party -- complete with gifts and strained conversation -- in the first place? Whoever's on the planning committee for this, at least we get to sit back and watch everyone's misery courtesy of Wowcrendor. This is second part of a Winter Veil series of videos by Crendor, so we can only expect more holiday mayhem in the days to come. We're going to count that as a solid entertainment win. • WoW Moviewatch: Battle for Town Square: Winterveil Day 1

    by

    12.18.2014

Khadgar seems to be everywhere. He's giving you quests and following you around Draenor, but he's also set up camp in the capitol cities of Azeroth to try to recruit fresh faces for the battle against the Iron Horde. (We'd ask how he does it, but the answer would probably involve complicated magical theory and we just don't have the patience.) It's a practical plan: of course Khadgar would want to stake out the busiest areas to catch the attention of adventurers... but it seems to have set him at odds with Greatfather Winter, who's recently arrived to ring in Winter Veil. The latest machinima from Wowcrendor sets us up for a holiday-themed series that pits Khadgar against Greatfather Winter... but as to who will win and who will lose in this epic battle, we'll just have to keep watching. • WoW Moviewatch: Rent-An-Orc

    12.14.2014

I didn't really think I needed an orc in my life, but I may have just changed my mind thanks to today's machinima offering. Rent-An-Orc is a pretty short little film, and I think this may be the first piece I've seen from Youtuber wthMerhaba. It's a simple premise -- Ragnar the Bloodthirsty has come under some financial strain, and is now offering his services via informative infomercial to assist would-be customers with their lives in a variety of colorful and suitably orcish ways. Sounds simple enough, and the film itself is pretty simple too, but the subject material is funny, the voiceovers work really well, and the added bonus to the offer had me in stitches. Sometimes things don't have to be incredibly fancy to be perfect -- a good joke and a good delivery will get you everywhere. If you like what you see, check out wthMerhaba's Youtube channel for more. Here's hoping we'll see a lot more from him in the future. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! • WoW Moviewatch: Starcraft Evacuation

    12.13.2014

Okay, obviously this isn't Warcraft -- heck, I'm not even sure we can classify it as machinima. But this is the second place winner from the 2014 BlizzCon movie contest, so I thought you guys might like to see it. Starcraft: Evacuation is a short film by Youtuber Peter Stroll about a small Terran mining settlement that is under attack -- the story is relatively straightforward. What's pretty cool about this particular movie is that sure, there's live action, but there's also some visual effects included that are surprisingly well done for an amateur effort. My only lament is that the film cuts off just when I wanted to see what was going to happen next. Maybe we'll see a sequel in time for the next BlizzCon? Let's hope so. • WoW Moviewatch: Warlords Countdown

    by

    Anne Stickney
    12.07.2014

Look, I'm pretty sure by this point in Warlords of Draenor you can automatically win over my heart in any machinima just by putting together a cheery video of any of the titular Warlords being happy, sunny, and dancing. But David Nguyen went one step further and put that all into an almost shot-for-shot recreation of the original Care Bears opening sequence, which just set the bar that much higher for anyone wanting to win me over with silly orc warlord shenanigans. Warlords Countdown is a pretty short piece, comparatively speaking, but I loved every second of it. If you like what you see, head over to David's Youtube channel and check out his other work. • WoW Moviewatch: The Sore Loser

    12.06.2014

I first saw The Sore Loser while standing in line for the BlizzCon store -- it was the first place winner of the 2014 BlizzCon movie contest. And even without quite being able to hear every line over the din of the crowd, I still ended up laughing by the end of the short. The film, from Mushanga's Machinima Movies, features voice acting by Jesse Cox, Rawrbug and Chase Johson, all of whom were absolutely excellent. The effects were great too -- I loved the teleportation sequence. Between the film work, the story, and the voice acting, it definitely deserved first place. Take a look, and if you like what you see, be sure to check out Mushanga's Youtube channel for more. Interested in the wide world of machinima? • WoW Moviewatch: The Force Awakens

    12.05.2014

We've all seen the new Star Wars trailer and, with Blizzard's help, started wondering just what an Azerothian interpretation of the film might be like. However, Ian Beckman's taken the idea even further with a WoW machinima timed to the original trailer's sound and dialog. And the finished product manages to hold together the plot surprisingly well, from Gorehowl (with mini-Gorehowl crossguards) replacing the infamous lightsaber to Khadgar on a rocket replacing the Millennium Falcon. My only complaint: where are the gnomes and goblins?! This high-tech crossover universe was sadly lacking all of Azeroth's engineering talent... much like actual Warcraft trailers. Oh well. While we're still waiting for the goblins and gnomes to have their day, we can enjoy this machinima. Interested in the wide world of machinima?
