For a game that's not really about collecting -- it's no Animal Crossing -- there's a lot of collecting to do in World of Warcraft if you're of a mind to collect things. And when there's not a lot of new content to occupy players, collecting things can take center stage. After all, there's tons of things you could collect, from the straightforward pets, mounts, transmog gear, toys, or tabards, to the more challenging reputation, achievements, or level 90s. Fortunately for those of us who collect pets or mounts, there's an in-game storage system to keep our inventories from overflowing -- but those of you who collect tabards, toys, or other items that don't get the same treatment are probably finding your bank overflowing with items. So today we're talking collections. Do you play the collection mini-game? And if so, just what do you collect?

Our friends at Wowhead hav just announced the launch of a new site feature that should make many players very happy indeed: a collection tracker! You can now use Wowhead to track your characters' possession of pets, mounts, titles, achievements, and recipes. The new feature was green lit thanks to the popularity of their recently-implemented quest-tracking feature, which has been a big hit. The new collection tracking feature includes options to exclude items that fall into certain categories -- the example used by Wowhead is that of pets only available from WoW's Collector's Editions. In this way you can hide any items you may not be interested in pursuing, either by blanking out entire categories of items (i.e. exclude anything Horde-exclusive), or you can manually select individual items to exclude as well. Hop on over to Wowhead's announcement page to check it out!

There are many addictive features of World of Warcraft, and everyone has those bank slots that could be filled with useful items but instead store seasonal prizes like Brewfest Goggles or non-combat pets. While your full bank can be somewhat stressful, it's always entertaining to hear about someone else's collections. Enter the Mad Hatter, aka Kat, and her large collection of hats. From seasonal hats, to wolf hats and dragon hats, to epic hats, she's simply teeming with hats. It has not only taken over her bank, but her alts as well. At least I try to keep my collections to one character. Sort of. Okay, not really. Luckily, hats on gnomes are not as ridiculous as hats on tauren. I used to be quite entertained by my friend and guildie's hats, as she was a female tauren. We had a running joke regarding the alligators in Dustwallow Marsh, as they kept giving her the most ridiculous hats. One evening I laughed so hard I had a mild asthmatic attack. I wish I had taken screenshots. As for collections, pretty well any item acquired during a seasonal event, I still have stashed in my bank. I also have quite a number of non-combat pets, and have gone out of my way for a few of them. Do you have any collections? Are there any items that really give you a laugh? Do you find yourself grinding just for silly items that you must have?
