  • Around Azeroth: One last call for alcohol

I've been thinking a lot about what sort of screenshot to run today, the last day of WoW Insider and thus of Around Azeroth. Should I dig through the archives and pick out one of the few screenshots that got nixed by the editors for being too filthy? Should I take a screenshot of one of my characters doing something noteworthy? In the end, I decided to pretend it was just another day, and run one final screenshot from prolific submitter Gimmlette of Spectacular Death on Llane (US-A). I'm sure we'll be having enough sentimental feelings today without my contribution. It's been a wonderful eight years, folks. And if you're in the Crown tonight, have a drink on me. "So, you spend a day saving Draenor," Gimmlette writes. "It's your town hall. You can leave your muddy boots wherever you like and put your weapons on the table. It's nice that they keep the fire roaring. I also appreciate a good book or two or three and a big mug of stout waiting for me. Someone will be around with a bowl of hot soup and some bread, or maybe a Feast of the Waters and they won't care that I don't share anything with them. As I gaze across my table, as only a ruling landlord can, I see -- wait, what is that looking back at me? Maybe it's just the label, but there's a face on that bottle. I've seen enough weird stuff in this world that I shouldn't be surprised, but if there's anything a dwarf doesn't want, it's her drink staring back at her. Besides, I don't drink wine. That's a night elf thing." Want to see your own screenshot here? Send it to aroundazeroth@wowinsider.com. We strongly prefer full-sized pictures with no UI or names showing. "As you probably already know, the Queuevians made the guild 'of The Queue' on Nesingwary/Vek'nilash/Nazgrel to keep the memory and community of WoW Insider alive," writes submitter Fussypants. "Saturday we decided to do a guild screenshot on the steps of Stormwind Keep. My favorite shot was this one (and yes, we are saluting you!) On behalf of the entire 'of The Queue' guild, I want to thank you, WoW Insider, for all you have done over 10 years of utter awesomeness! You guys have been the body and soul of the Warcraft community and the home for countless readers and commenters. We thank all the writers, past and present, for the fantabulous (and numerous) words you have written, and we wish you guys the very, very best in all future endeavors! And who knows, WoW Insider may live again! Thank you, WoW Insider, for being the best news site and home for the Warcraft community!" (And, uh, once I get over the sadness of all this, you might see a gnome warrior named Carrefour hanging around that guild. Pay her no mind. She is, after all, only a gnome. And I've always wanted to give the Alliance a try ...) Want to see your own screenshot here? Send it to aroundazeroth@wowinsider.com. Are you ready for some football? This weekend features a certain game that cannot be named without paying the NFL approximately eleventy billion dollars, starring Short Religious Quarterback, Tall Handsome Quarterback, Running Back Who Won't Talk, Cornerback Who Won't Stop Talking, Frozen Caveman Tight End, and Coach Hoodie. Submitter Gizmoto of Gnomeregan Forever on Wyrmrest Accord (US-A) started his game preparation a little early, and now has to figure out how to keep a thousand pounds of meat fresh until Sunday night. Time to call in an ice mage! Want to see your own screenshot here? Send it to aroundazeroth@wowinsider.com. We strongly prefer full-sized pictures with no UI or names showing. "Wandering around Stormwind during the wee hours of the weekend mornings means you run into the most ... ah ... interesting people," writes submitter Arugadh of The Brotherhood of Iron on Wyrmrest Accord (US-A). "Or trees, in this case. Self-immolating druids, actually, protesting the non-existent AH markets due to the over-abundance of materials. Or maybe they were just drunk and dancing and not noticing they were on fire. You never can tell with druids." Want to see your own screenshot here? Send it to aroundazeroth@wowinsider.com. Defender Illona and I were making our usual rounds in my garrison, and when we stopped to smell (and pick) the proverbial roses, one of the ever-present thorns paid us a visit," writes submitter Paladave of Clan Wilkes on Garona (US-A). "Having been denied its pound of flesh, the ankle-biter was not content to merely die and give up its flowery innards. No, these little monstrosities are content with nothing less than poisoning the wells." Want to see your own screenshot here? Send it to aroundazeroth@wowinsider.com. Today's submitter writes, "My gnomish warrior Pie was perusing the various transmog gear vendors when suddenly a strange sensation came over her ... a chill that crawled up her spine like a malfunctioning clockwork gnome hopped up on too much Deeprock Salt. Cautiously she turned around, expecting trouble, and instead she found a tiny death knight, comparing the fluffiness their pigtails. Naturally, Pie won." Want to see your own screenshot here? "They said, 'Silly Thunk, you no can fly. Ogron no have wings.' Thunk know better. Thunk up in clouds where he belongs with windrocs. Now only thing Thunk not figured out; how to get down?" "So while wandering around Shadowmoon Valley and getting in fights to test out my wide-range of dwarves taunts and insults in SpeakinSpell (and probably traumatizing a whole generation of players to boot) I stumbled across an odd gathering of draenei on the shore," writes submitter Arugadh of The Brotherhood of Iron on Wyrmrest Accord (US-A). "Three small girls and their fathers were gathered around a skeleton that they'd unearthed on the beach. At least, I think they unearthed it. Judging from the expression on that one child's face as she turned and looked at me ... well, I'm not ashamed to say that I scrambled back onto my golden charger and hightailed it out of there before they decided to unearth my skeleton right out of my flesh." Submitter Angmazensos of The Chaos League on Dreadmaul (US-H) was in the midst of a Temple of Kotmogu run when a sudden and severe lag attack gave him some free time to take screenshots. This close-up of a human hunter's utterly impractical bow. How does the arrow not get caught on any of those spikes? If Hawkeye or Katniss Everdeen saw a bow with that much ridiculous ornamentation, they would laugh their butts off. Except Katniss, who I'm not sure knows how to laugh. Submitter and rare tauren priest Cowthlic came off somewhat the worse from his first encounter with Imperator Mar'gok in Highmaul. This is why one generally brings an entire raid to top-level content rather than just doing it solo. Although I definitely sympathize with the desire not to interact with most of humanity. "If this doesn't put fear into the heart of a boss, I don't know what will," writes submitter Gimmlette. "Spectacular Death on Llane (US-A) did a "Let's See How Far We Can Go" run of old raids. We started with old Molten Core and, thanks to strategically placed alts, ended at Tempest Keep. We ran the raids in the order you would have received gear upgrades. When we got to TK, someone pulled out their Ancient's Bloom. Then another and another and another showed up. Best attack force ever. Kael'thas was not impressed. Maybe if we were able to set the trees on fire? Most likely it's because he doesn't have a heart to fear." Slideshow-77511% Want to see your own screenshot here? "My favourite is this one in front of Maraad's Ashes. A truly great hero, may he find peace. Yrel too is growing into a great leader, a steadfast and passionate companion, and she will honour Maraad's memory well (although she could work on her use of interrupts). Clearly she has great sense when it comes to weapon choices and transmogs. In retrospect, however, this picture makes me wonder if she's been quietly slipping Pygmy Oil into my health potions. If by some chance she becomes a follower in the future, legendary or otherwise, I will have to keep a close eye on her to see if she also has the makings of a great practical joker!" There are still memories, though, of getting punted by Baron Geddon and needing to get people high enough rep to have Aqua Quintessence to put out the runes. (I worked hard to get mine. It's something I still have and won't ever delete.) I caught this shot of all the sparkles around Garr as the LFR group we were in worked to contain the adds and down both them and him. "But yesterday, he wasn't out in the open hanging around the Pleasure-bot as he usually is. I found him in the Inn, sitting at a feast-loaded table with one of the lumberjacks and Admiral Taylor. Admiral Taylor looked decidedly miffed at being there. Which leads me to wonder if Flintlocke was at Taylor's Garrison before it got run over ... and what the true circumstances of Taylor's demise are.
