  • Feeling lucky? Pick up a refurbished Xbox 360 for $100

You can buy an Xbox 360 for the low price of $99.99 at GameStop right now ... but be warned, it's a bit of a gamble. For one thing, you're not buying one of the new Xbox 360 S models, but the old, notoriously unreliable, RROD-prone original models (with a 20GB hard drive). And it's refurbished. And ... it comes with a 90 day warranty. Basically, what we're saying is don't get too attached to this $100 Xbox, because it could be out of your life at any time. Think of it as a rental for an unknown period.

  • Microsoft confirms Xbox 360 price cut: $300 Elite on Friday; $250 Pro 'while supplies last'

Surprising ... well, surprising exactly no one, Microsoft has announced a $100 price cut on its Xbox 360 Elite model, bringing the 120GB console down to price (if not feature) parity with Sony's recently revealed PS3 Slim. While the Elite will take the place of the 60GB Pro at $300 beginning this Friday (that's tomorrow!), the Pro will enjoy a temporary $50 price drop. We say "temporary" because, once those are sold out, that's it. The hard drive-less Xbox 360 Arcade unit remains at $200. While this $300 Xbox 360 Elite may have a fancy new package (see above) it's the same ol' Elite inside the box. But the rest of the bundle isn't quite the same: taking a page out of Sony's PS3 handbook, this cheaper package ditches HD cables entirely (accessory sales ahoy!) in favor of bundling a standard AV connector. Want HDMI? Get thee to Monoprice. Most disappointing is that Microsoft continues to leave WiFi out of the Xbox, a console that – more than any other – excels in the online department. Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg told Joystiq, "We have not announced any change to our accessory pricing as part of this announcement." In other words, the WiFi adapter is not only missing from the console but, at $100, it's still insultingly expensive. Despite our misgivings about some of Microsoft's cost control measures, a $100 price drop on the 120GB Elite is nevertheless a welcome change ... ... even if it's just (barely) keeping pace with Sony's WiFi-packing, Blu-ray having PS3 Slim. Look for more from our chat with Greenberg later today. %Gallery-71096% %Poll-33788%

  • Rumor: Xbox 360 Elite, Pro deals revealed by Target

Adding to the growing pile of evidence indicating an upcoming Xbox 360 Elite price drop, a reader has sent in a picture he claims is a snap of next week's Target ad, showing a new price of $299 for the system. In addition, the ad advertises Pro systems for $249.99 -- and both systems will have an extra controller thrown in. If this is real, it'll be in effect August 30. Engadget has a clearer shot of the ad. In addition, we received a tip from a Canadian game store manager who stated that because of the Halo 3 Elite bundle available there (which is no longer on The Source's website -- we guess that retailer jumped the gun), current Elite bundles have been marked down to $349.99. A quick look at The Source and Amazon verifies this claim.

  • Deal: Xbox 360 Pro for $230 [update: Sold out!]

Update: Well, that was fast. All the discounted consoles have been sold out. Yes, the Xbox 360 Pro can currently be had for a full $70 off the standard price of $299. Woot Sellout is currently selling the console -- which includes a 60GB hard drive, wireless controller, HD cables, Ethernet cable and a headset -- for only $229.99. The consoles are new and include the standard one year warranty, as well as the three year warranty against the Red Ring of Death. If you want to get your hands on one, you'd best hurry, as the deal expires at midnight (Central Time) today. Beyond that, the Pro might just be disappearing altogether, so this could be one of the last chances any of us has to pick one up.

  • Xbox 360 Pro missing from new Elite packaging

The lifespan of the Xbox 360 Pro looks to be dwindling every day. First, the SKU disappeared from the comparison chart on the Xbox 360 Arcade packaging, and now it looks like the same change has occurred on the Xbox 360 Elite box. Perhaps even more significant is that the Elite has abandoned its traditional (and super 1337) gray packaging for white. White, as it happens, is also the color of Xbox 360 Pro packaging. Coincidence, or proof that the Pro is on its last legs? One final bit of (somewhat depressing) evidence, the Elite box states that it only includes standard A/V cables. No component, no HDMI, just plain vanilla A/V. In fact, the only features separating the Elite from the Arcade are a headset, an Ethernet cable and the 120GB hard drive. Even assuming the Elite drops to $299, that's not a lot of extras beyond the $199 Arcade model. At least Canada gets Halo 3 and a wireless adapter to make the deal a little sweeter.

  • Xbox 360 Pro 60GB for $230 during Woot Sellout

While it's no guarantee that a retail price drop is coming, seeing an Xbox 360 Pro selling for just $230 (plus $5 shipping) during a Woot Sellout certainly piles-on the evidence. The Woot model is your typical 60GB Pro (rumored to have reached end-of-life) with HDMI-out, wireless controller, headset, and component AV cable. However, instead of carrying a $300 price it costs about $70 less than your nearest brick-and-mortar will charge. The best deal you'll find until the rumored price cuts get official. So what's it going to be, slim, pull the trigger or wait?[Thanks, Joshua W.]

  • Rumor: Discount Xbox 360 Elite Halo 3 bundle coming to Canada (update)

Another day, another Xbox 360 Elite price cut rumor. This time, said gossip comes to us in the form of a tipster (who wishes to remain anonymous), whose unnamed Canadian retail outlet is adding a new SKU to its store shelves -- a $349.99 Xbox 360 Elite bundle which includes a copy of Halo 3 and a network adapter. Considering both of those items still carry fairly hefty price tags, that's one heck of a deal.Said tipster sent in four photos (the others are posted after the jump) and a supposed street date for the Canadian bundle -- August 28. Another interesting bit of info: The tipster also claimed that a new shipment of Xbox 360 Arcades carry no mention of the supposedly-soon-to-be-phased-out Pro model. If you're a Canadian retail employee who can shed some light onto the veracity of this new bundle, shoot us an email -- and as always, we'll respect your anonymity. We'll also respect your anemones. And your enmity!Update: We've just received a tip pointing out that this very bundle is now available at The Source, a Circuit City affiliate based out of Canada. Get this -- the online offer actually shows a $329.99 price tag for the whole kit-and-caboodle. Oh, if only we lived up in America's Big White Hat!

  • Xbox 360 Pro listing pulled from new Arcade packaging

We don't have any official word on this yet, but the above image (sent by GameStop employees to Kotaku) seems pretty convincing: The Xbox 360 Pro is no longer listed among the 360 offerings on the Arcade box on the right, leading many to believe the middle-of-the-road offering is being phased out. You may remember that the Pro's death was heralded by Ars Technica's reliable mole back in June, leading us to hope that the second part of that prediction (irresistibly attractive Pro bundles) may not be too far off. We'll keep trying throughout the day to get official word from Microsoft.

  • Jasper Xbox 360 Pro acquired: the photograph is proof

So yeah, finding an Xbox 360 Jasper in Arcade form isn't all that difficult these days, but we certainly haven't seen a glut of Pro models shipping out with the supposedly cooler, smoother and altogether more melancholy Jasper hardware within. A lucky soul over at PDAToday has acquired one such unit, and while he may just be incredibly fortunate, we'd say it's about time you to-be Pro owners start looking out for a few telltale signs. As you can see in the closeups in the read link, there here FDOU team Pro -- which was ordered from Amazon on December 22nd -- boasts a 12.1 amp rating and the unmistakable Jasper power port. Of note, it did come bundled with a Falcon revision (175-watt) power supply just like Ben Heck's Jasper Arcade, though we suspect Microsoft is just clearing out excess inventory given that the older PSU won't damage the Jasper machines. Any others out there run into any holiday luck? Let us know![Thanks, Bill]

  • Mole sez Xbox 360 price cuts coming in September: Arcade for $199

Microsoft's 20GB Xbox 360 Pro already stooped to $299, but one particular mole -- the same one who correctly called the 60GB edition of the console -- is suggesting that further slashing is in store. To be specific, we're talking about a $199 Arcade (no HDD), $299 Pro (60GB HDD) and a $399 Elite (120GB HDD), all of which should be available at those prices sometime next month. Furthermore, it's likely that Microsoft will toss out a few bundles in order to reel in the holiday shoppers, though details are sparse about which ones we'll be seeing. Our take? Hold off just a bit -- we get the feeling this here is more than hot air.

  • Rumor time: Target already selling 60GB Xbox 360s

A Joystiq tipster by the name of Vincent recently took this snapshot at his local Target store. Keen observers will note that the Xbox 360 box reads "Now with a 60GB Hard Drive." But wait, those aren't supposed to go on sale until August! We call shenanigans, good shenanigans for anyone looking to snag one of these beefy new 360s early. Joystiq notes that another sighting has been made at Penny College as well. And now we turn it over to you, the X3F Army. If you've seen the new 360 Pro system at your own Target (or anywhere else for that matter) let us know in the comments.

At this rate our Bingo cards will be filled before Microsoft takes the stage on Monday morning! Microsoft has finally confirmed the much-talked about rumors of a $50 price-cut to the 20GB Xbox 360 Premium bundle ($299.99 in US and Canada) and introduced a new bundle outfited with a 60GB HDD -- set to replace the outgoing 20GB model. The 60GB model will retail for $349.99 while the Arcade and Elite bundles will remain at the current price-point of $279.99 and $449.99 respectively. For those keeping score at home with your official X3F E3 Prediction Bingo Card, you can mark off the Xbox 360 Price-cut, the new Xbox 360 SKU, a 60GB HDD and the Too Human E3 XBLM Demo squares. It's a shame those weren't all in a line together. It's almost as if we planned it that way![via Joystiq]

We're not exactly sure what kind of behind-the-scenes relationship Target has with Microsoft, but this marks the third time by our count in which it has revealed something pretty important about the Xbox 360 before Redmond told anyone else (on the record, that is). Whatever the case, the Xbox 360 Pro is being let go at Target's brick-and-mortar locations (read: not online, so you'll actually have to slip some shorts on and leave the basement) for $299.99. Guess that confirms the US price drop, huh?[Thanks, Ryan]

  • More price cut proof: full page Kmart ad for $299 Xbox 360

click to enlarge More fuel for the Xbox 360 price cut fire as Joystiq has gotten its greasy little hands on what appears to be a full-page version of the Kmart Xbox 360 price cut ad discovered yesterday. Again we see an Xbox 360 Pro console offered for the "new low price" of $299. One interesting new wrinkle, Joystiq's tipster says that the ad is for the week of July 13, not July 6. That actually makes pretty good sense, as July 13 is the week of E3, which would be a good time for Microsoft to make the announcement. So, if you still haven't taken the 360 plunge, we suggest you wait another couple of weeks because the price cut definitely looks like the real deal.

  • Rumor: 60GB to replace 20GB HDD in 360 Pros

    03.07.2008

With rumors of European Xbox 360 price cuts flying around, we have yet another 360 hardware rumor making the internet rounds and it targets the 360's hard drive.According to TrustedReviews and their "rock solid source", they're claiming that Microsoft has plans to replace the Xbox 360 Pros' current 20GB HDD with a larger 60GB drive by this June. A move that isn't all that far fetched seeing that they probably want to to help accommodate all that HD content they want you to purchase off the Marketplace. TrustedReviews ratchets up the rumor mill even further by saying that their insider told them that Microsoft is bouncing around the idea of adding yet another SKU to the 360 lineup. A new console that would reap the fruits of the rumored Sony / Microsoft negotiations and feature a Blu-ray drive. So, is anyone willing to take a stab at what the rumored 60GB HDD or Blu-ray equipped models would be called? We'll be trail-blazers and go with "Xbox 360 Six Pack" for the 60GB model and "Xbox 360 HD DVD Died So Blu-ray It Is" for the Blu-ray version.[Via Engadget]
