  • Next Halo game: FPS MMO?

So now that Bungie and Microsoft have parted ways, what's next for the Halo universe? The latest rumor says Master Chief and company are headed to an first person shooter MMO. That... would be spectacular, given that's done right. Halo is already basically an MMO, considering all the persistent stats, customization and tracking that Bungie has put into it. All it really needs is a virtual world for the Covenant (or what's left of it), Earth, and the Flood to fight it out in, and we're off to the rocket races. The rumor, which is actually from the latest EGM, recommends Bungie for such a task, and there has been speculation that Bungie will go to an MMO next also (although, there's been speculation that every big game developer is working on an MMO, so don't hold your breath on that one either). But it's true that while PlanetSide is entertaining, we haven't yet seen a next generation FPS MMO done right. Could be that Bungie are just the ones to do it.[ via X3F ]

Try as we might, we seem to have trouble shuffling 3 whole people into the "studio" these days, so you may notice that Dustin is absent during this episode of the Xbox 360 Fancast. We apologize for the delay, by the way. We were busy stuffing ourselves with exotic meats. This week we discuss EndWar, the fantastic Assassin's Creed trailer, new Guitar Hero III tracks, and oh so much more. • WRUP: hard work edition

Yeah yeah, we know. We've been running Halo 3 beta themed WRUPs for the last two weeks. We're really sorry about that, but for the moment it's just the biggest thing out there in 360 land, and is likely to remain so until it's over. If you've been playing it much, you may have noticed that there are some serious Halo players out there. So serious, in fact, that they deserve to be called playas. As MTV's Stephen Totilo put it, beating them may require an amount of practice that "closely resembles work". But hey, that's the price of fun, right?Should you find yourself taking a break from the beta, we suggest you try out the flood of demos that have come out in the last several weeks. You've got Blacksite, Forza 2, DIRT, even Viva Piñata has come back to the Marketplace. Why not give one a spin? So, what will you be playing this weekend?Leaderboards:Xbox 360 Fanboy LeaderboardXbox 360 Fanboy Leaderboard Mk. It's time yet again for another edition of the Xbox 360 Fancast. This week, we take a look at PGR3's uncanny ability to promote Sony products, the NPD numbers for April, and rant about what Microsoft needs to do to keep it's new gen lead. We also examine the howling rage of the internets caused by the lateness of the Halo 3 beta. After the break, we take special time to crack open the Fanmail barrel and pull out some freshly pickled emails (with extra garlic). Okay, so it's a disgusting metaphor but the upshot is we answer a lot more letters than usual this week. Maybe we answer yours! You'll have to download to find out. You may do so below.Get the podcast[iTunes] Subscribe to the Podcast directly in iTunes (MP3).[RSS MP3] Add the Xbox 360 Fanboy Podcast feed (in MP3) to your RSS aggregator and have the show delivered automatically.[MP3] Download the MP3 directly.

If you don't like Halo, this is going to be a rough three weeks for you, because everyone here at Fanboy Towers loves it. Since David Dreger couldn't make it to the most recent episode of the Xbox 360 Fancast, we decided to record a special session just to talk about our experiences with the beta thus far. In this Fancast Xtra, we take plenty of time discussing the 3 maps (Snowbound, High Ground, and Valhalla), the new weapons, and the equipment items of the Halo 3 beta. Think of it as an audio primer for the beta, which officially rolls out tomorrow.Subscribers (RSS MP3, iTunes) will receive the Xtra automatically. Others may download the MP3 by hitting the "read" link.Check out all the X3F Halo 3 beta coverage

You may notice something strange about this episode of the Xbox 360 Fancast. A thought might creep into your mind that it is missing a certain maple flavor. You may come to think that there is an overwhelming lack of hockey (or hockey's bastard cousin, curling). Should any such thoughts occur to you, know this: our resident Canadian is missing. But no worries, he'll be back later this week with lots of Halo 3 beta talk. Speaking of the Halo 3 beta, this week's episode is chock-full of creamy Halo 3 beta goodness. We also take some time to talk Shadowrun and J Allard's new 'do. This week, we bring you a super special edition of the Xbox 360 Fancast. Rather than just listening to us gab on and on about Burnout Paradise, the new Gears of War maps, and the metric ton of leaked Halo 3 goodness (which we do), why not listen to an interview with Mitch Gitelman? Who's Mitch Gitelman you ask? Why he's none other than the studio manager of FASA Studio, creators of the upcoming Xbox 360 and PC title, Shadowrun. We talk his ear off for nearly an hour about all things Shadowrun, from the game's genesis to its impending release. • Major Nelson teases new Dashboard details on Xbox 360 Fancast

If you haven't been listening to our very own Xbox 360 Fancast, you really ought to be! The team at Xbox 360 Fanboy just celebrated their tenth installment with a very special guest: Spring Dashboard rumors! Oh, and Major Nelson was there too. First, the bad news. According to Major (at around 0:39:45), the oft-requested clan support functionality ain't gonna be coming in the impending Spring update. That doesn't mean individual titles can't use the available API to support clans, but don't expect to see Dashboard level functionality. Now the good news: Major says (at around 0:40:30) that the update will include "simple things that I've been asking for since launch." 360 Fanboy put their thinking caps on and came up with a pretty convincing guess. Adding some "Play Game" verbiage to determine what game is in the drive is a feature that Major's been vocal about and, they remind us, early Dashboard screenshots (like the one pictures above) included this functionality. It's been a long time coming, so let's hope it is coming.Listen -- Xbox 360 Fancast 010 featuring XBL's Major NelsonSpeculate -- Spring update may upgrade "Play Game" verbiageDenied -- What's not in the spring update: clan support

  • Devil May Cry 4 no longer a PS3 exclusive

    by

    03.19.2007

Sony's list of PS3-exclusive third party games continues to diminish. Capcom has just announced their plans to make Devil May Cry 4 a multi-platform game. The game is now in development for the Xbox 360 and the PC, with the 360 version launching simultaneously as the PS3 version."Capcom is committed to making its titles available to as wide an audience as possible, and has been building its technology base to meet that goal," said Mark Beaumont , executive vice president, officer and head of Capcom consumer software publishing in the Americas and Europe said in the latest press release. While making the game accessible to the largest audience possible is admirable, Sony must now ensure that they do not lose further exclusives. Currently, Metal Gear Solid 4 and Final Fantasy XIII are still slated for PS3-exclusive release, but Sony must make every effort that Konami and Square Enix don't follow suit.

Every week PSP Fanboy brings you a great new podcast that you can use your PSP's RSS feature to subscribe to. We uncreatively called the feature RSS this! It's time for a little shameless inner-joystiq self promotion. This week we're going to recommend you listen to Xbox 360 Fanboy's very own fancast. Every week the fancast will keep you up to date on all the happenings in the world of Xbox. Hosted by Richard Mitchell, Dustin Burg and David Dreger, the fancast features site news, Xbox developments, listener mail and also questions for listeners to ponder. As with any good podcast, there's humor mixed in with all the information and even if this was your only source for Xbox 360 news, it'd really be all you need. While you may not own an Xbox 360 now, you'll probably own one eventually, so listen in. If you want to add the Xbox 360 Fanboy Fancast to your PSP's RSS, just bring up this site with your PSP through our mobile version at m.pspfanboy.com and click on this link: http://podcasts.xbox360fanboy.com/rss.xml Then you can exit your web browser and the show should be in your RSS channels. From there you can set a timer for auto-download of episodes, or stream them and save them to a memory stick. Got something you have RSS'd and would like us to feature? Just let us know in the comments, or let other readers know what you think of the Xbox 360 Fanboy Fancast.

  • Donate DS games for cancer patient

Rich over at Xbox360Fanboy let us know about a very good cause. Turns out, a cancer patient by the name of Tori who is currently battling Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, which is a form of blood cancer, is in need of help. Defeating the disease once when she was younger, she relapsed recently. In preparing for a huge stay in the hospital, as her immune system will be vulnerable to germs and infection following the bone marrow transplant, her mother says that in-between treatments, she is always playing her DS.This is where you could come in. Her mother asks that anyone with defeated games or perhaps in possession of games which you particularly do not enjoy, you could help Tori through this ordeal by donating them to her. She's only 13 and in suffering something that no child should ever have to endure, she is certainly deserving. We've included the original forum post asking for games into our post, past the jump.

I was up bright and early to do some shopping and let's just say it sucked. Lots of people, lots of driving and lots of coffee. So, in protest of going shopping today I invite you to join me on Xbox Live today for some Gears of War multiplayer fun. I'll be online today (after I take a nap) in the afternoon playing Gears with some friends so I invite you to join us. Who wants to go shopping anyway? And for those Xbox 360 Fanboys that end up kicking my ass I'll update this post and list their gamertags so everyone in fanboy'dom can worship their greatness. Instant celebrity! My gamertag is SuperDunners, so simply send me a friend request or a message stating you'd like to prove your Gears of War greatness and I'll send you a game invite. Yeah, it's quite leisurely and low key and yes you can talk as much smack as you want, but be forewarned ... I am crazy good. See you online this afternoon!

Xbox 360 Fanboy is hiring a new blogger. That's right, your years of obsessive video gaming are about to pay off. Your mother said it would never help you in life. Your friends scoffed at your nerdy hobby. But now all that will change, because you will become a blogger. Not just any blogger either. An Xbox 360 blogger. Truly the most highly evolved and sexy form of journalism, 360 blogging is where it's at.If you think you has what it takes, check out the requirements after the break.

But Xbox 360 Fanboy needs your help. For every positive (like the HD Beat flickr group), there is an equal and horrifyingly opposing negative. This weekend they are running a contest to find out who has the most pathetic Xbox 360 gaming setup in all the land, and uh, some of these are pretty pathetic. Sweet 720p videogame loving should never be found in what appears to be a laundry room.Go, vote, and then thank your lucky stars that you have not found youself in such a pitiable position.
