Weeks after the international rollout, Samsung is finally ready to deliver Android Pie and One UI to Americans... although you might not want to smash that check-for-updates button just yet. The company has confirmed to Engadget that it's pushing Android Pie to Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus owners in the US, but only on Comcast's Xfinity Mobile right now. Galaxy Note 9 owners and those on other carriers (including will receive their updates in the "coming days and weeks."

Comcast will limit Xfinity Mobile video streaming resolution

Xfinity Mobile customers will soon see a change to their video streams. In the coming weeks, videos streamed using cellular data will be limited to 480p resolution, a move that other carriers including T-Mobile, Verizon and Sprint have implemented for certain plans in the past. Videos streamed over WiFi won't be affected by the change and Comcast says that it will offer the option to stream 720p video over cellular data for an added fee later this year. Until that plan becomes available, customers who would like to continue streaming video at 720p will be able to do so for no charge, they'll just have to call the carrier in order to set that up. Additionally, users with an unlimited plan will see their hotspot speeds capped at 600 Kbps.

Until now, Comcast's Xfinity Mobile service has meant buying one of its locked devices. But what if you already have a phone and want to switch? You now have that choice... if you're firmly in Apple's camp. Xfinity Mobile has enabled an in-store Bring Your Own Device option, but only for "select" unlocked iPhone models. Other manufacturers' phones will have to wait until later in 2018. You can receive a gift card if you trade in a phone that doesn't qualify, although that means settling for a locked handset (and likely getting less than your handset is worth).

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 fans, the day is here. The phone hits stores today after breaking series pre-order records in the US and abroad. Samsung announced earlier this week that it sold over 650,000 phones in the first five days of its presale, outselling the Note 7 over the same time period.

LG's new Android phone called X charge for Comcast's Xfinity Mobile service isn't a flagship by any means. Its specs won't be able to compete with your iPhone 7s and Samsung Galaxy S8s, but it has one particular feature that stands out: its massive 4,500mAh battery that's 1,000mAh bigger than the ones inside the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus and the notorious Galaxy Note 7. LG says it can carry enough power to last all weekend -- if the X charge's battery isn't a dud like the Note 7's, that may very well be true. The S8 Plus lasted two days on a single charge when we reviewed it.

If you've been wondering how Comcast's Xfinity Mobile wireless service would work in practice, you now have a chance to find out. The American cable giant has started sign-ups for people who at least have its internet service. As before, the focus is mostly on a low price in exchange for loyalty. While you normally get unlimited talk, text and data for $65 per month (plus a $10 surcharge if you drop all other Comcast services), you can knock that down to $45 per line if you subscribe to a higher-end Xfinity TV package. A promo offers that $45 price to everyone, not just existing Comcast TV customers, if they sign up by July 31st.

Last September Comcast confirmed rumors by announcing its plan to launch wireless service this year based on a combination of its 16 million Xfinity WiFi hotspots and the Verizon network, and today we're getting all of the details. With the launch of Xfinity Mobile, Comcast will offer its customers TV, home internet, home phone and wireless service under one umbrella. With companies like AT&T and Verizon offering TV packages over the internet that compete with cable, now Comcast is moving into their area, although that doesn't guarantee they'll have success.

It's no Xfinity TV Remote but Comcast has finally delivered a free native app for Android (1.6 and above) users that brings access to its internet, TV and home phone services directly on mobile devices. Feature wise, it compares to the earlier Comcast Mobile apps for iOS, with its ability to view TV listings schedule DVR recordings remotely, access users Comcast.net inbox, sync their Comcast address book with the phone, access home voicemail and turn on call forwarding, a widget to display voicemails and emails, and view trailers of VOD programming on the device. We gave it a spin and while its need to reload TV schedule data each time we scrolled was slower than we'd like and it lacked a landscape viewing option, this will more than do for some quick on the go access and DVR scheduling, check our screenshots or hit the market (QR code and press release after the break) and download it yourself to try it out. Update: Now with video! Check it out embedded after the break. %Gallery-109504%
