The latest carrot to be dangled before the teeming mass of The Legend of Zelda fans comes from a recent interview in Famitsu magazine, via Andriasang. There, director Eiji Aonuma says he hopes that Nintendo will be able to "show something playable" at E3. What? That's, like, four years ahead of schedule! We jest, but it's not like Nintendo really needs to rush anything. It's The Legend of Zelda. You want it, even if it's supposed to be different this time around. Aonuma wouldn't provide much in terms of how far along the game has come, other than talking up the MotionPlus support and stating the team has "progressed in development since last year" and that the "core areas have come into clear view." We take that to mean the team has finished rendering Hyrule Field.

Here in the States, we get a weekly dose of Nintendo marketing via Nintendo Week, a sponsored program that runs on the Nintendo Channel. Over in the UK, they get a similar program: Ninty News. Yeah, we're not big fans of the name, either. In this week's episode, the spotlight is cast on the upcoming year in gaming on Nintendo platforms. Games like Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Epic Mickey are discussed, as well as -- wait, did he just say The Legend of Zelda on the Wii would release this year? Rambling Rupees, we think he did! You can see the entire episode of -- ugh -- Ninty News past the break. The brief mention of Zelda Wii is a little past the one-minute mark. [Via Go Nintendo]

  • Miyamoto: Zelda Wii coming in 2010, at the earliest

Wondering where the in-development Zelda for Wii was at this morning's Nintendo E3 keynote? At an invite-only developers event with Shigeru Miyamoto, the revered designer confirmed that the title wouldn't see release until at least 2010. "We hope to bring it to you next year but it may take a little longer," he said through a translator. "To be honest, at E3 we wanted to announce a new Zelda game for Wii." Unfortunately, that desire didn't earn the title a spot in Nintendo's keynote and it was instead relegated to the developers event. He also said that the title could "possibly" be a Motion Plus exclusive – though if he's not sure, we don't know who would be. The "announcement" included artwork – we weren't allowed to take pictures of (sorry!) – which was Twilight Princess-esque, featuring Link and a female Zora character. Here's the bad news: the more astute amongst you may remember that Miyamoto took the opportunity at last year's E3 developer's event to reveal a new Pikmin title for Wii in development (not the Wiimake) and, almost a year and two major keynotes later, we've yet to hear about it again.

The day for Zelda: Twilight Princess draws nearer and nearer. It has been three years since fans last saw a console Zelda title. The anticipation and hype surrounding this game couldn't be stronger and to further antagonize you, we've got more screens. Screens of visually arresting landscape, gigantic monsters, and our favorite hero. Time couldn't possibly go any slower.

Microtransactions have been prostituted almost to the point of ridiculousness on Xbox Live Marketplace with content that makes piggy banks cry. Hopefully, Nintendo won't go that direction. Though the thought of new downloadable content for Twilight Princess (such as more levels) seems like the most fantastic idea on the face of the planet, how far could it go? Nintendo's VP George Harrison vaguely answered a few questions for GamePro concerning downloading and the newest Zelda. He basically stated that right now they are concentrating on the release of the game too much to really get something in the works but they have brought it up and will be looking into it in the future. Alright, Nintendo, we are crossing our fingers in hope. Please don't let us faithful-to-the-end gamers down. Please? Wii Fanboy would like to know how our readers are fairing with all the Zelda information we are bombarding you with. You see, we geek out when it comes to Zelda. In fact, we geek out so much that we only have three Zelda titles left of those released in the US until our personal collection is complete. We would mention their names but we can't bring ourselves to. Told y'all we are nerds. In case you didn't get enough of Link this week, we are here to save your day and get you your fix. The Japanese Zelda: Twilight Princess site is open and ready for your viewing. Unfortunately, there isn't much to drool at. Just the most recent trailer and some info that is, dur, in Japanese. It is a nice set up for a site and we can't wait to see where it goes before the launch of the most anticipated Zelda of all time.

Ah, amore! You may be asking where this is displayed, where can I find one, can I steal one ... we don't care. We just want to look at it and giggle with glee 'cause November 19 is almost friggin' here people! We wish there was a way to score one of these. Our ninja skills may have to go towards stealing one from a GameStop or something before those greedy game store zombies employees get them. The plot thickens .... [Via Go Nintendo]

  • Miyamoto talks Zelda -- Link a lefty no more

If you didn't already know that Link, the hero in the Legend of Zelda series, was left-handed, we simply do not know what to do with you. In fact, we might ask that you get a CAT scan to help understand why you are a Nintendo fanboy who lacked this simple knowledge. In time, we could forgive you. Fact of the matter is, Twilight Princess has changed it up a bit under Miyamoto's command and Link is now right-handed. But, GameCube owners do not fear. Link will continue to be left-handed as tradition tells for you. Here is what Miyamoto himself said in his defense of making Link a righty: "Although Link is [traditionally] left-handed, at E3 we noticed people seemed to be using the right Wii controller to swing his sword. That's why we decided to make Link right-handed. The interesting this is, on the GameCube Link is still left-handed; because of the mirror mode the game map is reversed." All banter concerning the mirror mode must cease immediately. Sorry Leftorium lovers, you'll have to sit this one out.
