Majesco Entertainment had revenues of $30.4 million in the second quarter ending April 30, 2012, with $2.7 in profit. These numbers aren't staggering by any stretch of the imagination for a video game publisher, but for a company that was threatened with stock delisting (twice), it's been a relatively stable year."While the overall retail environment for interactive entertainment remains challenging in both North America and Europe, we are pleased to announce that in the second quarter, sales of Zumba Fitness remained solid, and Majesco delivered another profitable quarter. Zumba Fitness has now sold over 7 million units worldwide, and is the second best selling fitness game of all time," said Majesco CEO Jesse Sutton. "We are very excited for the upcoming holiday season, during which we will launch both Zumba Fitness Core, as well as the much-anticipated, highly innovative Kinect title, NBA Baller Beats. Lastly, we are about to ramp up our social/mobile efforts with the launches of Mini Putt Park on Facebook, as well as at least four exciting new mobile games coming to iOS over the next few months."Zumba Fitness' sales have been giving Majesco the drive it needs to maintain its modest condition. Much like Cooking Mama before it, the company needs to find another hit franchise before the Zumba gravy train runs out.

This Zumba clip serves as a reminder about the demographic spread of gaming and the power of Zumba Fitness lady's amazing armpits. With over six million units sold, it's not surprising that a demonstration ended up having a few thousand people joining in -- probably didn't hurt that the IHRSA Fitness Convention was going on at the same time either.

FIFA 12 ain't goin' nowhere, as the footie phenom holds the top spot on the UK sales charts for a fifth consecutive week. Chart-Track notes the title has already made more money than any other FIFA title to date, and is now tied for the second best chart-topping run of the franchise. It still has a bit to go though to beat FIFA World Cup 98, which had a record 11-week run.Skyrim flies up one spot into second, spinning Just Dance 3 into third. The Zumba hit parade keeps stomping along, with Zumba Fitness maintaining sixth and Zumba Fitness 2 sliding down one spot to eighth, making room for Saints Row: The Third. Holla! Thanks to some price promotion, the criminally ignored Rayman: Origins finally finds a spot in the top ten, spinning up eight spots into ninth place. Dubstep past the break for the UK top ten.

Majesco continues to stave off oblivion, getting lucky with Cooking Mama a couple years back and now living off the sweat equity of Zumba Fitness. The company announced the Zumba Fitness franchise has sold more than 6 million units worldwide, with Zumba Fitness 2 surpassing 1 million sales. "In 2011, we experienced the successful launch of a brand new franchise for Majesco; Zumba Fitness has quickly become the fastest selling title in the company's history and the world's number one fitness title of 2011," Majesco CEO Jesse Sutton said. "We grew revenues over 65 percent in 2011 ... Zumba Fitness has taken the fitness category by storm, selling over four million units worldwide in its first 12 months, and topping the charts as the number one fitness title of the year in the US and UK." For the fourth quarter, ending October 31, 2011, Majesco experienced a net loss of $3.9 million, versus a loss of $1.5 million in 2010. For the year, however, Majesco's revenue increased 66 percent to $125.3 million, ending with an operating income of $11.4 million, compared to the $2.1 million loss the prior year. Majesco could always combine its top franchises for mega profits: Cooking Mama's Zumba Fitness: Work Out & Eat Well.

  • FIFA spends fourth week atop UK charts, exercise games perform well

    01.16.2012

FIFA 12 remains at the top of the UK chart for a fourth straight week, despite a 54 percent drop in sales. Nearly all the games on this week's top ten saw double-digit percentage drops in sales, as consumers adjust to the post-holiday rhythm. For example, Just Dance 3 had a 21 percent reduction, but moved up two spots into second. Skyrim had similar falling upwards, as it moved up two spots into third, with a 23 percent sales drop. It's currently a race of stamina on the charts. And very few top ten contenders have stamina quite like Zumba Fitness. The continued desire to work off Christmas pounds kept the original game in sixth place, as Zumba Fitness 2 moved into seventh. Other fitness games are also doing well, as Your Shape: Fitness Evolved 2012 for Kinect is up 173 percent, and so is Wii Fit Plus, holding spots at 12 and 27, respectively. Do some step exercises and walk on past the break for the UK top ten.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was easily the best-selling game in the UK for 2011. Data released today by UKIE (compiled by Chart-Track) has Activision's behemoth franchise grossing a record-breaking £83 million in sales during its first week, which also turned out to be the biggest week of video game sales ever in the UK at £121m. The year 2011 was also the third year in a row Activision had the top-selling game -- and all from the same franchise, fancy that -- with Call of Duty: Black Ops in 2010 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in 2009. EA took both the silver and bronze with FIFA 12 and Battlefield 3, respectively. Both titles had stellar opening weeks in the UK and have consistently performed well in the all formats top ten since launch. The number four game for the year was Zumba Fitness, which should come as little surprise to anyone who followed our "summer of disbelief." The launch of the fitness title for the Wii kept the game atop the all formats chart for longer than we would have thought, but on the Wii chart it remained in first for a record-breaking 28 consecutive weeks. • FIFA 12 kicks off year atop UK charts, Zumba returns

    01.09.2012

The first week of 2012 sees massive double-digit percentage drops across Chart-Track's UK sales top ten. FIFA 12 remains at the top, with a 63 percent drop, as Battlefield 3 takes second, despite it being hit with the exact same decrease in sales. Modern Warfare 3 moves into third and Just Dance 3 maintains fourth, with sales slipping 76 and 67 percent, respectively. With such huge post-holiday sales drops, a stalwart returns to the top ten in fifth: Zumba Fitness. The desire to work off those Christmas pounds sent the exercise game up 11 percent, returning it to the top ten from its exile in 19th place. Several other fitness titles also moved up the charts, despite seeing sales declines, as the chart finds its after the holidays equilibrium. Run past the break for the UK top ten -- we could all use it to work off that fruitcake, phew.

Codemaster's annual F1 racing series would have taken the checkered flag for a second year in its debut week on the UK charts, but with competition like Gears of War 3 it'll have to settle for a respectable second place finish. According to Chart-Track, Epic's conclusion to the Gears trilogy sold nearly as many copies in its first week on sale as the first two combined during their launch weeks. Gears 3 is the seventh largest Xbox 360 launch to date (Call of Duty: Black Ops rules that roost). Zombie RPG Dead Island won't die. Having held the top spot for the past two weeks, the title finally shambles on down to third. It's poetic, really, since it's keeping Zumba Fitness company. The unholy fitness game, which danced into fourth last week, must be a death walker since it refuses to die, despite insane competition. Zumba Fitness keeps selling as Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Driver: San Francisco, Warhammer 40K: Space Marine and Resistance 3 slip down the charts. Check out the UK top ten after the break.

Amazon has dropped a selection of Lightning Deals on us, and while we can't be 100% sure of the identities of all the mystery deals (and less sure of the prices) it looks like there's enough stuff in there that you'll want to keep an Amazon window open, and an alarm clock set. Right now, F.E.A.R. 3 is $20 on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. Upcoming discounts include GTA IV, Mortal Kombat, and what is likely No More Heroes: Heroes' Paradise. To round out the deal while flattening your tummy, the ongoing Deal of the Day is Zumba Fitness for Wii or Xbox 360.

Majesco sweated its way to a profit of $1.9 million for the third quarter ending July 31, 2011, with company execs thanking their lucky stars for the Zumba Fitness phenomenon. The company had revenues of $19.5 million, up 61% from the same time last year. The real sign of Zumba Fitness' magic is that for the nine months ended July 31, Majesco had revenues of $100.2 million, up 92 percent (nearly double), from the same period the prior year. "Despite what is normally a seasonally weak time for our business, Majesco experienced another strong quarter. Driven by strength in Europe this past quarter, Zumba Fitness has now sold over 3 million units worldwide," CEO Jesse Sutton said. "The growth of the Zumba phenomenon overall has us very excited about Zumba Fitness 2." Yeah, we bet it does.

Deus Ex isn't quite ready to give up the glory it earned for knocking Zumba Fitness off the top of the UK All Formats sales chart last week. The conspiratorial RPG may have experienced a 46 percent reduction in sales from its debut week, but it still had enough to keep Driver: San Francisco in second place for its premiere week. The usual cast make up the rest of the top ten, including Zumba Fitness dancing in third (take that!), with the exception of Madden NFL 12, which found a nook in sixth. The only other new title to enter the top 40 last week was Bodycount, which despite serious faults, found a home in 36th place. Find the UK top ten after the break.

The ten long weeks of Zumba Fitness and its representative armpits ruling the UK charts is at an end. Deus Ex: Human Revolution has augmented chart news in its debut week, leaping straight to number one. Chart-Track notes that, in just two days of sales, the latest Deus Ex came just 26,000 units short of outperforming Deus Ex: Invisible War's seven years' worth of lifetime sales. Zumba Fitness still managed to take second place. But, third place went to another newbie, Rugby World Cup 2011, which was only 400 sales short of overtaking Zumba. Disney's Lego Pirates of the Caribbean kept on sailing strong in fourth, with Call of Duty: Black Ops ascending thirteen spots into fifth, thanks to pricing deals and the launch of the Rezurrection map pack. Head past the break for the UK top ten.

We live for your armpits, Zumba Fitness lady; not a week goes by without our need to see them! Despite an 18 percent drop in sales, Zumba Fitness doesn't even break a sweat maintaining the top spot on Chart-Track's All Formats chart in the UK for its tenth straight week. Second and third place didn't move either, with Disney's Lego Pirates of the Caribbean and Cars 2 holding their respective positions. The one new entry into the UK top ten was Xenoblade Chronicles, which entered the fray in seventh place. If you live in the States and are looking to import the title, we've written up a piece about how to do that. This week sees the beginning of the end-of-year launch onslaught, with the debut of Deus Ex: Human Revolution. There's gonna be "real talk" if Zumba beats that next week. If you came here expecting not to see the Zumba Fitness lady's beautifully shaven armpits for another week ... sorry, buddy. In its ninth consecutive week leading the class on Chart-Track's All Formats chart (with 12 total #1 appearances), Zumba Fitness dropped seven percent in sales. This week's top ten is a shuffle of all the usual suspects. Disney's Lego Pirates of the Caribbean went up one spot into second, thanks to price promotions, and Cars 2 kept the parking break on in third. The big mover last week in the top 40 was Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, up 60 percent from 39th place to 13th, thanks to the recent 3DS hardware drop. It remains the only 3DS exclusive in the Top 40 and, according to Chart-Track, outsold the next biggest 3DS title five to one. Check out the UK Top Ten after the break.

Zumba Fitness. Its name should cause perspiration, an elevated heart rate and total fear in any competitor on Chart-Track's UK all formats chart. In its eighth week in the top spot, the game saw a 16 percent increase in sales and outsold the next four titles combined. Those four consist of Dirt 3, Cars 2, Just Dance 2: Extra Songs and Lego Pirates of the Caribbean. Although Zumba's eight week run is... impressive? Yeah, let's say impressive. It still has a long way to go before defeating Who Wants To Be A Millionaire's 18 weeks and Wii Fit's 16-week reign. No new releases entered the Top 40 last week. Now, to find a crowbar to help detach this collective facepalm.

Zumba Fitness has now maintained seven consecutive weeks atop Chart-Track's UK all formats chart, with a 33 percent increase in sales this past week. One more week in the top spot and Zumba Fitness will have matched the first-place records held by the likes of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Need for Speed: Underground 2. Adding to the weirdness, Cars 2 sales doubled, placing it in second. The not-very-compelling Call of Juarez: The Cartel enjoyed third and, as if we should be surprised, Just Dance 2: Extra Songs sales increased 127 percent to place it into fourth. We're going to go take a couple Advil to kill this cognitive dissonance. Check out the UK top ten after the break.

Zumba Fitness. Six weeks straight. #1. Not only that, but as Chart-Track points out, Zumba Fitness has spent 17 straight weeks atop the Wii Full Price Chart. It currently holds the bronze for unbroken weeks at the top, with Wii Fit so close at 19 weeks and Just Dance 2 not far off at 23 weeks. Ubisoft's Call of Juarez: The Cartel premiered in second, with Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows Part 2 casting "stupefy" to climb four spots into third. The only real surprise in the top ten was Dungeon Siege 3's sixth place ascension from just outside the top ten, but that was thanks to a price promotion. Also, Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon debuted at number 15. Check out the top of the UK charts after the break.

The unstoppable Zumba Fitness won't let go of the spotlight, holding the top spot on Chart-Track's UK all-formats chart for a fifth week in a row. Despite a 24 percent drop in sales, the dance-ercise title celebrates its eighth time holding the crown since the Wii version launched in March. Stupefy simulator Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows Part 2 premiered in seventh place. Chart-Track notes it's the lowest sales performance ever for a Harry Potter game. Thanks to "significant" price promotion, EA Sport Active 2 sales shot up 338 percent, sweatin' its way back into the top ten in eighth place. Check out the full UK top ten after the break.

For a fourth consecutive week, Zumba Fitness maintained its spot atop Chart-Track's UK all-formats chart. The title has danced its way to the gold seven times since the Wii version launched in March. Another fitness game that's making moves on the charts is THQ's UFC Personal Trainer, which debuted at #22 a couple weeks back, but is now close to punching into the top ten at #13. No new releases broke the Top 40 last week, so the top ten is full of the usual suspects, many which benefited from price promotions. Such was the case with Dirt 3, which raced into second, with a 28 percent increase in sales. Transformers: Dark of the Moon, the tie-in title to the summer blockbuster, transformed that extra exposure into a 10 percent increase in sales, placing it in third. Autobots can roll out past the break for the UK top ten.
